Chapter 4
Chapter Four
T he weekend was a success. His lines were always packed of people, and I had never seen him smile as much as he did. Even Max took notice to how happy he seemed.
“Do you think it worked?” Eden questioned over the phone as I kicked my feet up onto the stool next to the chair I was sitting in.
“I hope so, but I don’t think just one convention will convince him to change his mind. If they all go like this, I think I have a shot.”
“Good. And nothing else happened over the weekend?”
I sighed, “not over the weekend, no.”
She coughed into the phone.
“Alright, I’m going to share some information with you, and you must keep it to yourself!”
“Cross my heart!”
I told her about the wild and random night of sex Jason had a few nights ago. I didn’t go into details about how his body made me feel, or how much I wanted to jump his bones every chance I could this weekend.
“So now what?” she gasped.
“Now I need to quit and find another job!”
“Are you insane?”
“No, I’m practical. This can’t work.”
“Have you told him this yet?”
“No, I wanted to wait until after the weekend.”
“Good thinking, piss him off at home. Not in public.”
I rolled my eyes, chatted with her for a few more minutes before I made my way down to the living room where Jason was relaxing.
“Hey, do you need something?” He asked.
“Um, I wanted to talk to you about something.”
“Shoot,” he replied, turning the television down and turning his attention to me.
The room was dim, and I hated that I was bringing this up at night, but I needed to get it out while I still had the nerves to do so.
“I have to quit,” I blurted out.
He rose to his feet, “why?”
“Seriously?”
“You mean the sex or the living with me thing?”
“The sex Jason. I can’t be fucking my boss.”
“Sure you can.”
“Listen to yourself, it’s crazy. We aren’t some drama show or movie. This is reality. Real life.”
“So, you think what? You will quit, have no job, no place to live and we can keep screwing?”
“Are you telling me that you will only do that if I work for you?”
“No, fuck no. Geez Sage, do you really think that low of me?”
“Of course not. I’m simply saying, I don’t want the agency to think that you are only giving me a pay increase because we are sleeping together. They still don’t know that I live here currently.”
“You aren’t just going to quit. It took me too long to get used to having you around,” he stated.
“Jason…”
“Shut up,” he said. His body crashed into mine, his lips on mine.
Before I knew it my tank top was on the floor and so was the shirt he was wearing.
“We can’t…” I whispered between moans and kisses.
“Bullshit we can’t,” he replied. With one quick motion of one hand, my bra was hanging loosely about to fall off completely.
At that moment, I didn’t care about anything. Everything I wanted to do this past weekend was happening. He pulled me down onto the couch on top of him, I could feel him through his basketball shorts pressing into me.
A moan escaped so loudly I thought the neighbors would be able to hear.
I sat up hearing Max clear his throat and Jason curse under his breath.
“Morning,” he beamed staring at us. Thank goodness I had tossed on Jason’s shirt after our third-round last night.
I put my head in my hands, I could feel my face burning.
“I’ll just be outside. Mr. Baxter, you have that appointment this morning,” he explained turning on his heels and walking through the living room.
I waited until I heard the back door shut before I got up.
Jason laughed.
“This is not funny.”
“It’s a little funny. It’s just Max, he’s not going to go tell the media or anything. Besides aren’t you the one that said he was the most trustworthy?”
“Don’t throw shit back at me like that. We never finished what we started last night.”
“I beg to differ. I think we finished several times,” he winked getting up and walking down the hall.
“That’s not what I meant, and you know it!” I shouted after him.
I made my way upstairs. I listened for when Jason and Max left. I couldn’t even begin to think about what that car ride would be like.
Maybe I didn’t need to quit. Maybe I could make this work. Jason was still a dick sometimes, but one I was beginning to really fall for.
Damn it Sage. This was not a part of the plan! I thought to myself as I got myself ready for the day.
I spent the morning catching up on emails, searching for apartments and waiting impatiently for Jason and Max to get back from wherever they went. Jason made a point to block out his schedule but not actually put a destination in there.
I heard the car come through the gate and as much as I wanted to jump up, I stayed put.
They laughed as they walked through the door.
“Thank again Max,” Jason said as he rounded the corner into the study.
“Hey,” I noted barely looking up from my laptop.
“Hey yourself. Lunch is on the dining room table, come eat with me.”
I shut the laptop and followed him.
Max was already sitting at the table.
“Is this an ambush or something?” I questioned.
“Nope. Well, kinda not,” Jason said, “sit.”
I sat down across from where he was standing.
Max and I were just out looking at places for you to live, and I must say, even with your bump in salary, I dislike many of them. Max agrees.”
“Sorry lady, but they just aren’t that safe.”
“So, what are you telling me?”
“I’m telling you; I’ve decided to buy another house. Well actually I’m buying a large piece of land that I’ll be building a house on, and then I’ll build a secondary home for you, and one for Max. The property is huge. It’s farther from the city, but that’s okay. And I’ll keep this place in case my daughter needs a place to stay, or if we have an early morning in the city.”
I shook my head, “nope.”
“What do you mean no? You haven’t seen the property; you can create a house that you want.”
“This is too much,”
“I thought so too, but it seems like the best plan.”
“Besides, I hope to keep you both on staff for as long as you want to be.”
“And what about when we are done?”
“Then you are done. The property your home is on, and the home is yours to do what you want.”
I rubbed the bridge between my eyes, “can I think about this for a bit and process it?”
“Of course.”
It was hard to sit at the table with Jason and Max there. Especially Max who walked in on us this morning.
“Can’t sleep?” I asked as I walked into the dimly lit kitchen.
“Nope. I don’t sleep well normally, what about you?”
“Thirsty. I need to remember to bring myself up a bottle of water or something.”
“True. We keep meeting like this,” he grabbed my waist and pulled me into him.
“Is this our new normal?”
“Only if you want it to be,”
I smiled even though I knew he could barely see it. I think I did. If someone would have told me months ago, I’d be living with Jason Baxter and getting to pleasure him night after night, I would have called them insane.
This was my new normal. I had no idea what the future would bring, but I was ready to tackle it.
For now, though, I’m just going to give Jason a night to remember.
