Song: “I’m Crazy About You Baby” by Auspris Country Music

I got to the corral early and started working with one of the quarter horses.

While riding him around, I looked up and spotted Madison walking down the main driveway toward the ranch house.

She was coming back from taking a run that I hadn’t realized she was on.

She saw me watching her, waved, and smiled.

I did the same, my body aching for hers.

With that in mind, I brought the horse to a halt and opened my music app to find the song that’d just popped into my head.

I copied the link and texted it to Madison, keeping my eyes on her.

She stopped walking, checked her cellphone, smiled again, and looked up at me, nodding. Then she messaged me.

Madison: I love that song by Auspris Country Music. And I’m crazy about you too.

Me: When can we get together?

Madison: Funny you ask. I talked to my parents earlier this morning and told them that I wanted to see you this evening. They told me to go and that they had Bella covered.

Me: I can hardly wait to kiss those lips of yours and breathe you in.

Madison: Ditto. I have an idea.

Me: Tell me about it.

Madison: I would like to cook supper for us at your cabin, then we can have each other for dessert.

Me: Sounds great to me! There’s a spare key to the front door taped inside the gutter downspout on the right side of the cabin if you’re facing it. Just keep it.

Madison: Thanks. What would you like to eat?

Me: Surprise me.

Madison: I can do that.

I noticed Justin coming up the driveway toward Madison in his dark blue pickup truck.

She heard him from behind her, looked over her shoulder, and waved at him, stepping aside so he could pass.

When he reached her, he stopped and lowered his driver’s side window.

I couldn’t hear a word either of them was saying, but they were both smiling.

A few seconds later, Justin continued toward the bunkhouse.

Madison: Justin is a polite guy.

Me: Yep.

Madison: I’m going to grab a shower, eat a little breakfast, and run into town for some groceries. I will see you later.

Me: I wish I could touch you right now. Run over here real quick.

Madison was at the corral gate, standing on the middle rail, in no time. I rode the quarter horse closer to her.

“Hi, pretty momma,” I said, smiling.

“I need a kiss.”

“I’m ready to give you one.”

She stepped up even higher on the gate. I leaned toward her, placed my hand at the back of her head, and pulled her into my kiss, both of us sighing the second our lips touched. Then we looked at each other.

“You make me want to throw you over my shoulder and carry you to the loft inside the barn.”

“For a roll in the hay?” she asked, giggling.

“Yep.”

“It’s tempting, but I’m rather sweaty at the moment.”

“Doesn’t bother me.”

“You’re serious about going to the loft?”

I grinned and nodded. “I am.”

“Hayden and the cowhands are all walking around. I won’t risk one of them catching us. I would be so embarrassed.”

“Then I’ll wait to ravish your body later.”

Madison pointed at my crotch. “Your body is struggling to wait.”

“Can’t help what you do to me.”

“That whopper erection of yours makes me want to…” She cut her eyes at the barn and looked at me again.

“Are you game now?”

“Shit, no. I need to get back to the ranch house to check on Bella anyway.”

“Was she sleeping when you took your run?”

“Yep. My parents listen for her to wake up. If she already has, I guarantee she’s sitting on my dad’s lap on the couch with a cup of chocolate milk and a strawberry Pop-Tart. They spoil her so much.”

“She’s the kind of little girl who makes you want to spoil her. You’re the kind of woman who makes me want to spoil you.”

“You already do.”

“Give me another kiss, then go check on our angel.”

Madison searched my eyes. “I like hearing you say our.”

“I want you to know that I would be Bella’s daddy if I could. I would adopt her in a heartbeat. She’s precious to me.”

“To ever adopt her as your daughter, you know what that means, right? You know what you would have to do first.”

“Marry you. I’ll go buy you an engagement ring today if you’d accept it.”

“Hang onto that thought, cowboy.”

“Are you in love with me yet?”

“Maybe. Are you in love with me yet?”

“Maybe.”

We smiled at each other, then Madison gave me another kiss, hopped down off the gate, and jogged back to the ranch house.

I watched her the whole time, knowing she already owned my heart.

It didn’t matter that we hadn’t known each other that long.

I knew what I was feeling toward her was real because I’d never felt anything like it before in my life.
