Vesper

Fifty-One

Widow messaged me to warn me that Haven had left Rory a voicemail, saying she’d meet her at the pier.

It was my job to get her to the clubhouse.

If she had something to do with what happened to Cinder, a war would be started because Haven would leave here with a bullet between her eyes.

I needed to make sure my anger didn’t cloud my judgement, because I was liable to just shoot Haven to get it over with.

I pulled up to the pier, and like a dumbass, forgot to turn off my headlights, giving away that someone was here.

It was a rookie mistake, but even if she got into her car, Widow gave me permission to bring her in no matter the state she arrived in.

What mattered was getting information out of her.

I parked a few feet away and hopped quickly out of my car.

Her struggle with her keys worked well to my advantage.

I grabbed my gun and pointed it directly to the back of her head. She tensed, her back straightening.

“Don’t even fucking think about it.” The gun cocked. “Turn around.”

She listened. I saw why mariposa was entranced by Hades.

She was gorgeous. Her skin was a deep, rich brown that glowed in the moonlight.

The smoothness of her skin, devoid of any visible flaws, her hair a vibrant red.

She was gorgeous, but still the enemy. A pretty face could hide dark secrets, and I refused to allow her to cause any pain to my mariposa.

“Why is Axel Morningstar’s kid on Viper property?”

She thought I wouldn’t recognize her. Even without Widow alerting me to her presence, Haven Morningstar was known to us all because of Diesel.

He would talk about the young girl Axel adopted after her parents died.

She had already been the Devil princess when she was born, but Axel made sure she was safe even after he started this war with us.

“I’m looking for someone.”

“Why are you looking for Rory?” I pushed, knowing she wouldn’t give me a direct answer.

“Because she never arrived at my house. I’m worried about her.”

My eyes narrowed. “Why is a Devil fucking with a Viper?”

She huffed, glaring at me but not moving because of my gun pointing at her head. “‘Cause I don’t give a shit about a feud!” She cocked her head to the side. “My dad and you Vipers can duke it out in a Trader Joe’s parkin’ lot for all I fuckin’ care. Where is my woman? Where is Rory?”

I arched my brow. Her woman. “Rory is mine.”

A sly grin spread across her perfect pout. “Oh yeah? Which one are you? Vesper or Widow?” That shouldn’t have surprised me as much as it did. “What? You didn’t think she’d tell me about the two women who keep breakin’ her heart?”

My gaze tightened as irritation crept onto my face.

She knew that left a mark, but she was right.

Regardless, Rory was making a mistake fucking around with a Devil.

“Vesper,” I gritted out, tightening my grip on the gun.

“And I don’t trust you, even if you are with Rory.

You could be a decoy, for all we know, and your dad has Cinder and put Rory in the hospital. ”

Fear danced in her dark eyes. “Hospital? What? Where is she?” Haven tried to leave, but I grabbed her by the throat while keeping my gun pointed to her temple. Most of the time when I had someone’s life in my hands, I saw fear, not lust. Haven glared at me, but gave up fighting.

“She’s alive, but until we know what happened to Cinder, you won’t be going anywhere.”

“My dad had nothing to do with it! I don’t know why y’all are fighting! He listened to your terms. I came here without him knowing.”

I squeezed tighter. “Your dad killed Diesel, Cinder’s father. He stabbed him in the back and took everything from him. Cinder would have killed him, but we made this agreement instead. Now you’re breaking that reluctant truce, hellfire.”

“I don’t give a shit! I want to see Rory, that’s the only thing I’m here for. Let me see Rory and I will leave. I can protect her.”

I laughed bitterly. “Protect her? She was almost ran off the road on your territory. How long have you two been together?”

“We aren’t official, yet. Rory deserved more than just a simple will you be my girlfriend. She's special.”

That she was.

“When she wakes up and can confirm all of this, then we'll think about it.” I grabbed her arm, bringing her to my Escalade. “Do I need to cuff you or will you stay put?”

“Please, just tell me one thing, what happened to Rory?”

“She was in a wreck. We’re still looking into it. Someone took her from the scene before the ambulance found her.”

“The person who took her before?”

I huffed. Mariposa did a lot more than just sleep with Haven. “He’s dead. We are figuring that out, too.”

“I can help. My best friend is a hacker. It’s how we ruin the Predators’ lives. I want to help find the person who wants to hurt her.”

I arched my brow. “Your dad is in cahoots with them, why should we trust you?”

“My dad thinks he’s protecting me, that I’m a fragile princess. But I can protect myself. And I would never allow him to hurt Rory.”

“Let's go, hellfire.”
