Chapter 30
Girl’s Night
Morning sickness was kicking my ass, but I was still up early, taking my time getting myself together.
I curled my hair, made sure my makeup was perfect, while thinking about the fact that in a week, I was really about to be Love’s wife.
No more talk about it, thank God for no more planning. The day was right around the corner.
Even though there was no more planning for me, Love was still working hard to make sure everything was perfect. He walked in and out of the room on the phone, trying to hide what he was doing from me.
Every time I tried to ask him something, that man would smile and tell me to mind my business.
“But Love?” I said in a soft voice.
He looked at me as he hung up his phone.
“Hell no, you are not gonna get me like that,” he responded.
I rolled my eyes while spraying perfume on my wrists.
“You could tell me a lil’ something.”
Love shook his head. “Nah, I want you surprised when you walk down the aisle.”
A lil’ bit late, Kenya texted the group chat saying they were outside, and I exhaled. I wanted to drive myself, but they wouldn’t let me.
I grabbed my purse and my phone and headed downstairs with Love behind me.
As he opened the door, he waved to my girls before giving me a kiss.
“I want you to have fun,” he said. “Relax, smile more, and next week all this shit is gonna be over with, and you gonna be my wife.”
I had a huge smile on my face as I walked out to the truck. Renee pushed the door open, and I hopped in, giving my girls a hug.
“Are you still not drinking?” Kenya asked.
I nodded. “Not until after the wedding is over.”
Kenya rolled her eyes. “You are no fun, but I got you some mocktail shit.”
I laughed as I took a glass from her.
The driver pulled off, and conversation instantly went to Love and what he could be putting together. We all knew it was going to be somewhere exotic. It was just figuring out what else Love would do.
After a while, we pulled up to the spa. I hopped out quick and damn near ran inside. If I was looking forward to anything, it was that.
My girls laughed at me while they were still behind me.
“Look at her ass,” Renee said. “You would have thought Love was in there waiting for her.”
They finally caught up to me inside while I was standing there looking around.
“Y’all, it’s been a long few months.”
“We know it has been,” Kenya responded.
I nodded. “I need all of this.”
We got checked in and changed into our robes, and went to get our massages.
Once I laid on that table and that woman started working my shoulders, I felt my whole body starting to relax.
“Ooou ma’am,” the masseuse said softly. “You are very, very tense.”
I nodded but didn’t respond. I knew I was overworked from work, wedding planning, moving quickly, and my ex. I was full of built-up tension, but I didn’t know it was that bad.
That lady worked my back and shoulders out so good, when I got up, I felt like I was walking on air.
We moved on alone to facials, Deja laying on some hot rocks, and Renee tried laying in some mud, talking about it was supposed to detox her body.
We spent a few hours there trying new shit and laughing with each other until we got hungry and went to get food there, and the food was overpriced and nothing that any of us wanted.
“Is it time to head out?” Kenya asked.
I nodded. “My crew, let’s go!”
We laughed and went back into the locker room to get changed.
Once we made it back out to the truck, we had the driver drive us around the city for a lil’ bit while we figured out what we wanted to eat.
“I wish we was gonna be there with you when you get married,” Deja expressed.
I leaned over and hugged her.
“Me too, but once we get back, we gonna turn the fuck up!” I let them all know.
After a while of driving through the city, we found a place we all wanted to eat at. Some hole-in-the-wall shack that had some food ass fried chicken.
I got chicken, mac and cheese, greens, potato salad, with a slice of yellow cake with chocolate icing. We all got our food, and I smashed all of it like it was my last supper.
“You was hungry, ain’t it?” Renee asked.
I looked around with my mouth full of mac and cheese, shrugging my shoulders.
“It was good, and I need some more.”
Deja, Renee, and Kenya all looked at each other.
“Hmmm… you’ve been acting strange,” Kenya added.
“Yeahhh… you’ve been tired and eating like a champ,” Deja chimed in.
Renee leaned on the table. “Is there anything you want to tell us?”
I looked back and forth at all three of them.
“Hell no, it ain’t. I’ve been tired, stressed, and all the above. Don’t play with me like that!” I responded, trying to steer them away from that topic.
They shook their heads, not saying anything else about it, but I caught them looking at each other.
After lunch, we went to the mall and did some light shopping. I picked up some things for Amir, and something I wanted to see Love in. The rest of the shit I got was things I wanted Love to see me in.
We went to some department stores after that, walking side by side, cuffing arms at times while the sun shone down on us and the breeze was just enough to give me a lil’ chill as we walked.
By the time we were done shopping, all of our arms were filled with bags.
“Iight now,” Kenya said. “My feet hurt.”
“My shit has been barking,” Renee complained.
Deja looked down at Renee’s feet, cause you got on fuckin heels, what are you on?”
We all laughed.
“Listen, ho…beauty is pain, and I didn’t know we were about to do all this walking after the spa.”
We continued to laugh at Renee as we walked back to the truck and headed to Kenya’s house.
On the way there, I checked in with my man, making sure he wasn’t getting too stressed out during his secret planning, and asked him to order some Chinese for when I get home.
It was crazy that he sent me back a screenshot showing that he had placed an order a few hours ago to be delivered later that night for me.
The way he knew me was like no other.
The ride to Kenya’s house was quieter than the rest of the day. We had been moving around since that morning, and it was finally catching up to everybody like we were some damn kids.
The second we walked through her front door, our bags went in different areas, so we knew what belonged to whom, and our shoes got kicked off.
Renee stretched out across one couch, Deja laid her ass on the floor, while I curled up on the other end of the sectional, while Kenya disappeared into the kitchen.
“I am making us some cold drinks,” Kenya yelled from the kitchen. “Don’t nobody fall asleep.”
“Mmhhmm…” we all responded at the same time. I don’t know about them, but my eyes were already closed.
When I opened my eyes again, the TV was on low, Renee was snoring, Deja was still on the floor with her mouth wide open, and Kenya was scrolling through her phone.
“What time is it?” I asked.
“Almost seven.”
“Seven p.m.?” I yelled at her while I looked outside.
Kenya nodded. “I told y’all not to fall asleep.”
We got Deja and Renee up and spent the next almost two hours getting ready to go to the club.
Each one of us took turns fixing each other’s hair and touching up our makeup
I had to change three damn times, not liking anything that I was put on, not realizing I was gaining a lil’ bit of weight.
By the time we walked outta the house, I almost didn’t want to go. I was tired all over again, but I kept my thoughts to myself and put a smile on my face.
The club was live by the time we got there, inside and out. We cuffed arms and walked through the crowd, and made it to the door. Kenya handled the reservation, and they let us right in and led us straight to our section.
Once we were able to sit down, I got myself some water and texted Love, letting him know where we were.
The music was hitting. The lights were flashing, we were in our section having a time to ourselves. They got a few bottles here and there by some niggas all over the club, but we didn’t pay it no mind. We cracked a smile and continued enjoying ourselves.
We took a lot of pictures and videos, and Deja had the DJ congratulate me. I was all smiles, feeling like me and Love was finally on the last lap of the rest, and the finish line was close.
After a while of us dancing and shit, I started to slow down. My feet were hurting, my back was hurting, and I wanted nothing more than to be in bed with my man.
“Y’all,” I said, getting their attention. “I think I’ma call me a car to take me home. I am tired.”
They looked at each other a smile.
“You don’t have to do that,” Kenya said. “I’ll call the drive to come get you and he can come back for us later.”
I nodded and took a seat letting Kenya handle it.
A few minutes passed and Kenya looked over at me.
“He’s about to pull up.”
I stood up and gave each one of them a hug, telling them I would text them when I got home, and I walked outta the club.
Outside had calmed down a lot, it was only a few people out front but it look like they was trying to figure out their next plans. I saw a car parked a lil’ ways down that looked like the truck that we were in earlier and headed toward it.
As I did, I was looking down at my phone, texting Love and letting him know that I would be home soon, when I stopped walking, feeling somebody press something in my back, and something covered my face.
