Chapter 19

CHAPTER NINETEEN

AVERY

I didn’t think there was anything hotter than watching my…

fuck buddy? Temporary hookup? Short-term boyfriend?

as he stood at the front desk of The Cozy Maple Inn to check us out Sunday morning.

He wore a crisp navy suit that he filled out impeccably and a stern expression, a complete contrast to the kind of person who’d normally find themselves in the situation we were in.

With his mouth set in a flat line, his eyes hard, Aiden met the desk attendant’s gaze without wavering. “You heard me correctly. The bed in the Cozy Garden Hideaway is broken. And that made it quite uncomfortable to sleep on, as I’m sure you can imagine.”

Mark stared at Aiden for a long moment, his gaze sweeping over my 6’4” beast of a man who looked like he was the president of a bank rather than someone who went around fucking so hard they broke beds in their spare time. Then, eyes wide, Mark slid his gaze to me.

“Don’t,” Aiden said, his voice low but hard as he shifted to block Mark’s view of me. “You don’t need to look at her when I’m telling you this.”

Mark cleared his throat. “Of course. I apologize, sir. But if you don’t mind, could you clarify that for me? What do you mean by broken?”

“Exactly what I said. The bed is broken.” Aiden spoke slower, as if that would help, his expression daring the other man to question him further or inquire about how it happened.

But from the look on Mark’s face, he already knew. And was clearly shocked by it, no doubt wondering how the hell someone with the polished facade and stick-up-their-ass demeanor Aiden wore like a cloak could actually break a bed.

It’d been surprising for me, too. Not the fact that he’d been able to do it—I no longer questioned anything that man could do, in or out of the bedroom—but the fact that we’d fucked hard enough to break it in the first place.

After he’d gotten me back to our room following the fireworks, he’d proceeded to make me come so hard, so many times, I’d made a mess of the sheets, and my body had been one giant nerve ending, frayed and raw.

I’d been shaking, my pussy throbbing and dripping wet as he’d bent me over the bed and slammed into me.

Over and over and over again as I’d begged him to fuck me harder. And he had.

Christ on a cracker, he had.

Even when two of the bed’s legs broke, slamming us to the floor, he’d just kept right on fucking me straight through it.

He’d placed his hand over my mouth to keep my moans muffled, his hips pumping wildly against me as he whispered the filthiest words in my ear.

Not stopping until I’d come three more times on his cock before he’d finally finished inside me.

Then he’d collapsed against my back, his low chuckle mixed with my fit of giggles as we’d lain on a now-slanted bed, thanks to our activities.

“I, uh…” Mark started, clearly not knowing what to do in this situation. I didn’t blame him—I was pretty sure this wasn’t something they generally covered in orientation. “I’m terribly sorry for that inconvenience, sir, and I’d love to comp last night’s stay to make up for it.”

I’d barely made it until we were in the car, the doors shut behind us, before I broke out in a fit of giggles. I pressed my head back against the seat and turned toward Aiden, a grin splitting my face. “I can’t believe we didn’t have to pay for the broken bed. And we got a free night out of it.”

Aiden grinned as he started the car, shooting a glance at me out of the corner of his eye. “I can be very persuasive when I want to be.”

There was no question about that, and my overworked clit was proof enough of his persuasion. I hummed in agreement as he pulled out of the parking lot, guiding us back to Starlight Cove.

“There’s just a little problem…” I said.

“What’s that?”

“If we’re not telling Addison about us”—I flicked my fingers between us and the agreement we’d come to—“what do we tell her when she asks why we got a free night?”

While attempting to fall asleep on a broken bed, we’d discussed it and decided it was in our best interest to pretend like we still weren’t a thing for however long I was in town.

Or however long until someone found out.

If Addison wanted to shove us together repeatedly in an attempt at matchmaking, who were we to stop her?

Aiden shrugged, his hand tightening on mine over the shifter as he switched gears. “I’ll tell her they were so grateful for all the events she booked that they comped it as a thank-you. That little demon loves anything that boosts her ego, so she’ll be focused on that part and not the free night.”

I just stared at him, shaking my head in wonder. “You’re a genius.”

His lips twitched, that dimple popping out as he slid me a sidelong glance before returning his attention to the road.

“Well, even though I can’t tell her this, I’m grateful she meddled,” I said, relaxing back in the seat, my head turned toward him.

It had been a whirlwind weekend—the best I could remember having…

maybe ever—filled with great conversation, great food, and great sex.

Leaving me fulfilled in a way I’d thought I’d have to travel across the world to experience.

And I couldn’t help but wonder, if only fleetingly, what would happen if this was my life all the time. If I stuck around, tossed my aspirations out the window, and lived this life instead of the one I’d been dreaming about.

Aiden glanced over at me and brought our joined hands up to his mouth, drawing my thoughts back to the present. He swept his lips across my knuckles before lowering our hands back to the gearshift. Then, with his eyes on the road, he murmured, “Me, too.”
