Chapter 2 #2

“Leave it alone? How the fuck am I supposed to do that, Harbor? You know what I did after you left? I latched on to everything around me, including Alba. She’s my best friend, but she was there for me. We got closer. It wasn’t anything planned—"

“Maybe not for you.” I held his stare. “You know what I remember about that night? You having a conversation with your so-called friend about what we do together and our relationship. I was in the middle of talking with her about you when I was grabbed. Alba has always had feelings for you. And you probably felt the same about her given that you’re together now.

” High strung and letting the last year and my emotions crumble around me, I felt myself shaking as I stared across the counter at him.

“Whatever I felt for her, it didn’t compare to us.” Lock assured me. “But that shit don’t matter, do it?”

“No, not anymore. We are two different people on two different paths.”

There wasn’t much for either of us to say.

My life was full of fuckery at this point.

Nothing felt right, and I couldn’t get my head together long enough to focus on one thing before something else got my attention.

Frequency, making this business a success, and figuring out the rest of my life, that’s what my mind kept being captured by.

It was easy to get caught up in the past with Lock though. Seeing him brought it all back.

“Do you want the house or not?” I sighed and awaited his response.

“I’ll make an offer. I want to bring Alba by to check it out. You think we can set that up?” he asked, timid.

“Yeah. Let’s go back to my office and arrange a follow up. I will run your name and everything for a credit check and get back to you in a few days.” Just as I rounded the counter and went to leave, Lock reached out, seizing my wrist.

His hands on me sent a surge through me that I didn’t expect, and our eyes linked.

His gaze was solemn, and I tensed up at his touch.

This didn’t feel right, and I wasn’t sure why.

Once upon a time, being this close to him meant everything.

Now there was a distance between us. It was like that with my father and Harmonie too.

With Lock, suddenly it felt like a betrayal.

I didn’t want to cop to it, but it was because of Frequency.

He swept in and knocked over everything in my fucking life.

About thirty minutes later we pulled back up at the office.

Again, Deviance opened my door for me, and I met up with Lock on the curb.

He noticed the driver giving him a hard glare and leaned toward me.

“Is he your driver or your guard?” Lock questioned.

I swung my hair over my shoulder and looked Deviance up and down.

“Little bit of both. Come on.” I ushered him to the entrance.

Kitana was now at the front desk working and there was no sign of Chevy as we strolled inside.

“Well, welcome back.” She greeted me, not looking up from the computer screen as she typed.

She always spoke to me like I was inconveniencing her or something. Shit was mad annoying, and I was ready to smack her just off GP. When she lifted her eyes, she changed her dry ass tune, and perked up.

“Mmm, hello there.” Her nasty ass tongue swiped across her bottom lip and she eyed him with thirst.

“What’s up?” Lock gave her the nod, not at all impressed.

“So, if you want we can arrange a time this week to take Alba over as well. Just let me know a time that fits your schedule.” I handed him one of my business cards.

He studied it in his hand as the door opened.

In strut the man of the fucking hour; of the minute and every fucking second for me.

Sharp as fuck in Tom Ford attire, Frequency had his head down in his phone, that arrogant swag all over him.

Our eyes met when he looked up, and never wavered as he moved toward me with Lock.

Instead of walking in front of the reception counter, he let himself behind it with Kitana.

“Thanks for helping, Harbor. I appreciate it.” Lock tucked the card into his pocket.

“No problem.” I said softly, watching him back away.

“I’ll be in the office.” Frequency kept it pushing, rude ass fuck, not even greeting a potential client.

Lock looked him up and down as he bypassed the desk, moving back toward my office. He owned the building and walked through it as such. Once Lock was gone, Kitana was gave me the most peculiar look, but tried to be as nonchalant about it as her nosy ass knew how to be. She widened her eyes at me.

“Ooh, you in trouble.” She teased, cackling to herself.

Spinning on my heel, I took off to have a word with the man in charge. When I stepped into my office, Frequency was behind my desk, fidgeting with a paperweight and waiting for me. I closed the door behind me and kept my back against it while grilling him.

“That was a client. You could have at least said something instead of being so damn brash.” I took a couple of steps forward and tossed the folder I carried onto the desk before I set my satchel down.

Frequency took position in my chair and eased himself back slowly to examine me. He always seemed to cut through me with his gaze.

“I know exactly who he is. You should know by now that I don’t slack on my homework.” He rubbed his index finger against his chin and irritation filled his face.

Pushing my eyes back into my head, I tucked my arms across my chest and rounded my desk while peeling my blazer off.

The warm summer day had me sweating in this damn business attire.

Revealing myself in my silk camisole style top, I placed my jacket on the desk and Frequency remained fixated on me.

He was working my last nerve with this confusing ass shit he was on.

He said one thing and did another, and a bitch was left with her head spinning.

“What is wrong with your anti-social, introverted ass? Did someone hurt your feelings or something growing up? Who raised you?” I mocked him, but he wasn’t amused by my humor.

He tipped his head to the side and continued to penetrate me with his eyes.

His lack of response left me frazzled and I tried to straighten up in front of him, but he jumped ahead of me.

The aggression in his strong hands when they gripped my waist left me charged, and when he slid himself in front of me in my chair, I was captivated.

Slowly, he brought himself to his feet and his arms fell behind my back before his palms were all over my ass cheeks.

Frequency lifted me to my desktop and pinned me in place resting his palms on either side of me.

His crazy, enchanting eyes bounced around mine and he simpered sexily.

The slyness behind his stare had my center hot and wet.

“Don’t play with me, Harbor. Play with them sucka ass niggas out there.”

He nodded his head to the door but held my stare.

“I fucked up… in Puerto Rico. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized the impact that might have had on you.

I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. That’s the last thing I wanted to do.

You deserve the truth, and that’s what I thought I was doing.

My relationship… with Ivana…shit was a long time ago.

That man doesn’t exist anymore. Losing her changed me.

Then yo’ ass showed up in my life. You defied everything I ever thought I wanted in a woman. ”

“Why are you telling me all this now?” I asked, feeling like I had been holding my breath the entire time he’d been talking.

“Because yo’ ass needed to know. I don’t give a fuck about you or that attitude you walking around with because sooner or later we both know you giving me that good shit again.

And when you mad, it only makes the shit better.

” He straightened himself between my legs and my sex caught an irregular rhythm.

Frequency didn’t blink, and when he spoke, I felt that shit.

My breathing picked up and he turned even more cocky.

He knew what the hell he was doing. His hand drifted down to my thigh and he gave a squeeze while biting into his bottom lip.

Shit! Like he had been doing that shit for years, he pecked my lips gently.

“Just don’t make a nigga wait too long.” His warm retinas bounced around mine before he backed off and crept along to the door.

I was in a daze staring after him long before he left.

He left me hot and heavily fucking bothered.

The rest of the day was spent checking out other properties to bring in while updating them to our website.

When it was time to clear out and head home, Chevy and I were the last to leave.

I met her up front as she cleaned up and turned some of the lights out.

After she slung her Hermes bag over her shoulder, she led me to the door.

To my surprise, Ledge and Frequency were parked at the curb.

They were leaned against Ledge’s Mercedes sharing a blunt as we exited our building.

“Oh, curbside service.” Chevy purred, beaming brightly at her man as he took a tug of the blunt.

He cut his eyes at me, never happy with my presence. By now I was able to ignore his ass, and my attention was on Frequency anyway as his hooded gaze lingered over me appreciatively.

“Me like.” Chevy went on.

Ledge passed the blunt to Frequency and he grabbed it between his two fingers and took a drag.

He opened the passenger door for me, and I realized that Deviance was parked behind his car, watching us all.

Nodding to the passenger’s seat, Frequency blew smoke from his mouth and I huffed before waving to Chevy and climbing inside.

“Later girl. I’ll catch you in the morning.”

“Goodnight, Harbor.” She hopped into the car and Ledge closed the door behind her.

“I’ll catch up to you later, bro.” Ledge nodded to Frequency and got in his whip.
