Chapter 5 #4
“That’s what she says. About eight weeks. And… I don’t know what to do with that. This last year has left my head spinning. I damn sure didn’t see this coming.” I expressed.
“I love you.” The words left him so naturally that stalled me and any incoming thoughts.
With my hand in his, he looked me dead in the eye.
“I think I’ve known that shit for a long time, and when I finally did know it, I couldn’t say it to you.
I didn’t know what to do with it. But… a nigga loves you, Harbor.
With every part of me that is able to. This baby is going to change everything…
and it will be an adjustment… but considering where we came from… I think we got this.”
Tears had mounted in my eyes and I sniveled. Using the back of my hand, I wiped some of them away that had fallen loose.
“Are you telling me you want to do this? You want to bring this baby into the world?”
“Shit, why not?” He shrugged. “I’ve done a lot of shit in this world, but one thing I do know is that kids give you a second chance.”
“And what about Ivy, how do we deal with her? She’s so fragile right now.” I whined, and he smirked.
“You let me worry about her. You just focus on being stress free.” He stroked my chin and pulled me to my feet while he stood.
I still wasn’t feeling my best, but he encased me against him anyway. Kissing the top of my forehead, he inhaled, and I tipped my head back to take in his face.
“You are good to me, and good for me. I love you too.” Our lips meshed in a warm, scintillating kiss and he draped both arms around me.
When Frequency kissed me, it was always urgent, and passionate.
I would swear that everything around us evaporated when we were together.
It was another world, and nobody could touch us.
Unfortunately, another presence was felt in the room.
As if the Universe was planning its own fucking reality show, Lock and Alba stood in my office doorway.
Clearly, they were both surprised to find me in the arms of another man.
Going completely rigid in Frequency’s embrace, I dropped my hands at my side and faced them.
“Sorry about the interruption.” Lock spoke up first.
He was doing his best to hide how he really felt, but I saw the flicker behind his eyes.
“Yeah. We came in but there was no one up front so we just came back here. We heard voices.” Alba chimed in, and it was then that I was finally able to account for her very round belly. “Were we interrupting something?” I saw the delight bouncing around her eyes.
Frequency narrowed his eyes at both of them and swept his hand down his beard while observing them in the doorway. I placed a hand on his chest and shook my head no.
“We were just… talking.” I answered. “Was the appointment today to view the house?” I asked.
“It is.” Lock replied.
“Sorry. My mind is a mess right now.” I said, facing my man. “I’ll catch you at home later?”
“Yeah. Try to make it an early night, Harbor.” His hand fell on my collar bone and he leaned in, pressing his lips against mine.
Marking his fucking territory. He was in the presence of a man that I had been in a relationship with before.
Frequency was older, and it showed in how he handled me. Confident without being cocky.
“I will try to be there before Ivy gets home from school.” I assured him, wiping my lipstick from his lips.
“A’ight.” He squeezed me before pulling away.
I watched him move around Alba and Lock. Chin up, like the regal ass man he was. Frequency nodded to them both while leaving. Straightening my back and clasping my hands together, I gave them a forced smile. Shit was awkward as hell.
“Alba, nice to see you. Lock didn’t mention that you were pregnant.” I glanced his way but tried to keep my focus on her.
“He didn’t?” Alba cut her eyes his way.
“We didn’t get that far.” He implied, and she turned back to me.
“I am 34 weeks. So she could come any day now.” She rubbed her stomach proudly. Me on the other hand, I was suddenly feeling ill.
“Congratulations.” I told them.
“And congratulations to you.” She waved her hand toward me and my eyes bugged. How did she know? “On your business and everything. This is a nice place.” Alba complimented.
I sighed and a nervous laugh followed.
“Thank you!” I reacted chipperly. “So, are you ready to go look at your future dream house?”
“I am. Lock said it was everything that I was looking for, so I am excited.” She smiled big.
“Well prepare to be impressed. You are going to want to move right in. I can meet you out front. My driver will lead the way.” I walked behind my desk to grab my briefcase.
“Driver? Oh you fancy.” Alba kidded.
“Hardly.” I muttered. “Just a perk of being the boss.”
Lock wouldn’t take his gaze off of me. He seemed to be picking apart every statement I made, and I could clearly see that he wasn’t feeling seeing me with Frequency so closely.
Alba stood by as if she was relieved to find me with another man.
I was anxious to hopefully cash out on this house and not have to see either one of them again.
