Chapter 15

The Virginia farmhouse looked exactly as it had the night she and Dan had appeared together in front of Guardian.

It was understated, forgettable, the kind of place that existed in the outskirts of normal everyday life.

But now, the dining room table was covered with their tablets and the notes they’d printed out.

The screens on the wall would show the five people who would decide whether they were about to dismantle the Black Scroll Society or gather more evidence.

Raven stood at the head of the table. Dan stood slightly to her left and back. He was present and visible, but he made it clear whose briefing this was.

The screens came online in sequence.

Lycos appeared first, his background carefully blurred, only his weathered face and steady eyes visible.

Archangel followed, professional and composed as always.

Fury materialized third, his gruff presence filling the screen with the attitude of someone who'd seen everything and wasn't impressed with any of it.

Charley came online fourth, and Anubis joined last.

Ring's voice came through the speakers without a visual feed. "Audio check confirmed. All participants secure. Raven, you have the floor."

She took a breath, then started, "We have the results of the six-week investigation and the intelligence gathered from eight separate sources."

Archangel nodded. "Understood. Proceed."

She walked them through the interviews and the information they learned.

"How many operatives?" Archangel asked.

Ring answered, "Estimated three hundred to five hundred active field assets globally. Support networks, trainers, recruiters, possibly double that."

The weight of that number settled over the people watching her.

Charley's expression didn't change, but Raven knew the calculations happening behind her eyes. "That's a global organization."

"Yes, and much larger than my solo efforts had indicated," Dan said.

Ring's voice came through immediately, and data began populating on a shared screen visible to all participants.

"I have the briefing built. Raven and Dan can jump in when they have information.

First is the Japan operation. Objective: Retrieve student records from Kuro's compound to identify potential Scroll operatives.

Result: Partial records obtained despite Kuro's active interference. "

Raven described the infiltration, including the 0200 approach, the administrative building, and Kuro's attempt to mislead them. “We still don’t know for sure if he’s the key to this or if he’s become a pawn to the Scroll,” she concluded.

"Kuro was proud of what the Scroll had become," Dan said. His voice carried disgust. "He saw it as the natural evolution of his doctrine. Shinobi assassins operating at scale, serving a purer purpose than governments or institutions could."

"He's wrong," Raven said flatly. "The Scroll serves money. That's all."

Ring's data updated. "The records we obtained identified approximately forty former students trained under Kuro's direct supervision over a twenty-year period.

Cross-referencing against known operational patterns, financial trails, and behavioral indicators, I narrowed the investigation to the five high-priority profiles. "

The screen showed five faces. Five names.

Noor Sato. Dev Tanaka. Kade Yamamoto. Sienna Ito. Cole Harrington.

"These five individuals showed behavioral patterns consistent with Scroll-adjacent activity," Ring continued. "Not necessarily active operatives, but people who knew something, had contact with something, or were being used in some capacity."

Raven walked them through each encounter after Ring’s slide filled the screen.

“First is Lisbon. Noor Sato. The aid worker who'd been unknowingly recruited through a funding channel.

Clean, frightened, cooperative. Gave them the name Maddox Venn, which became their first thread into the Scroll's financial architecture.

Singapore. Dev Tanaka. The dojo owner who'd been passing information without knowing it was feeding the Scroll. He'd met someone once and gave them a description that matched their emerging profile of the Scroll's leadership.

Buenos Aires. Kade Yamamoto. The one who thought they were Scroll operatives coming for him. The confrontation that confirmed how deeply the Scroll's recruitment efforts had penetrated and how many former students were living in fear of being pulled in.”

"Kade had been eluding them for eighteen months," Dan said. "He'd refused a recruitment approach and had spent every day since waiting for retaliation.”

Archangel nodded. “Guardian has since provided him with protection and a legitimate relocation."

Anubis spoke for the first time. "We arranged his extraction and resettlement through the South Dakota annex. He's secure."

Raven continued. “Prague. Sienna Ito. The Interpol analyst who was recruited and refused and who's been living carefully ever since.

Sienna gave us the most significant intelligence," Raven said.

Ring's screen updated with a composite image of a tall, broad-shouldered, scarred face man with a shaved head.

"She described the man who approached her.

The physical description didn't match our suspect, but everything else did.

The doctrine, the methodology, the operational signature. "

"He told her he was 'going home to the islands,'" Dan added. "That gave us the geographic anchor we needed."

Ring's voice came through. "After cross-referencing 'islands' with known Scroll operational patterns and Shinobi-trained individuals with ties to island regions, the Philippines emerged as the only viable location. Further analysis confirmed it."

“Next was Istanbul and Cole Harrington. Our final profile. The American who'd been offered a leadership position in the Scroll and had spent eighteen months building an intelligence file while pretending to consider it.

"Cole confirmed the location," Raven said. "Northeastern Luzon, Cagayan Valley region. An abandoned mining operation that's been retrofitted as the Scroll's training facility and operational headquarters."

Ring's screen showed satellite imagery of dense jungle, mountainous terrain, and a cluster of structures that could have been industrial ruins or something more deliberate.

"He also gave us a name," Dan said. "Not a real name. An operational designation. Yuki."

The silence on the screens was absolute.

"Which is Japanese for snow," Raven said. "The white that covers everything. Makes the world pure."

Dan continued. "When we were training under Kuro, there was a student who called himself that.

Before he had an operational name. Before Kuro gave him the last name of Mori.

" He paused. "Alexei Mori. He was of Chechen and Japanese descent.

Quiet. Disciplined. And Kuro favored him but not above anyone else, which is why his involvement is difficult to understand. "

Ring's screen updated with everything. The full intelligence architecture he'd been building for six weeks was now complete. Financial trails, operational patterns, cell structures, recruitment methodologies, and at the center of it all, one name connected to everything.

"According to our intelligence, and it was verified by several sources, Alexei Mori died in a fiery car accident. However, we now know that he’s running the Black Scroll," Ring said.

His voice was certain, final. "The behavioral signature matches.

The operational patterns match. The timeline matches.

He's been building this for at least seven years, possibly longer. And he’s the one who thinks Raven is the person stopping his assassins. "

"The den in the Philippines is more than a headquarters," she said.

"It's a training facility. Active recruitment and indoctrination.

Cole estimated thirty to fifty operatives onsite at any given time, plus support staff and leadership.

The facility is underground. An old mining facility with some tunnels retrofitted with modern infrastructure.

Defensible. Concealed. Limited access points. "

"And Alexei Mori is there," Dan said.

Archangel leaned forward. "What's your recommendation?"

Raven looked at the screens. At the five faces that would decide whether this moved forward.

“Take the fucker down.” Raven shrugged. “Excuse my French.” Fury snorted a laugh at her comment.

Archangel nodded. "We take the Council a complete threat assessment.

Show them what the Scroll is, what they've done, and what they'll continue to do if we don't act.

We present the Philippines den as a strategic target.

Not just the leadership, but the training pipeline.

We ask for authorization to eliminate Alexei Mori and dismantle the facility permanently. "

Charley leaned forward. "The Council will want to know operational parameters. Rules of engagement. What happens to the trainees in that facility who might not be fully culpable?"

"We neutralize active threats," Fury said. "Anyone who engages gets engaged. Anyone who surrenders gets to live. And the facility itself gets compromised beyond repair, so it can never be used again."

Charley spoke. "You're talking about an international operation in a sovereign nation without their knowledge or permission. That carries significant political risk."

"The Shadows will be in and out before anyone knows we were there," Archangel said. "No footprint. No trace. That's what they do."

"How many operators do you think you need, Raven?" Fury asked.

She drew a deep breath. "The full team. Me, Dan, and all others. Berserker handles demolition. The rest are tactical assault and support."

Fury's expression didn't change, but something in his eyes did. "You're asking for all of my best people."

"No, just my team. The older ones are still operational. Even some of your ancient ass class are still active … ish." She cocked her head and looked straight at Fury as she spoke.
