Chapter Fifteen
Galveston, Texas
Trey stared at the letter in his hands, mouth agape. He was enraged. The words were starting to blur together, and his mind was spinning. The handwriting was Asher’s, but the words on the page were definitely not what he wanted to hear.
His fingers clenched around the paper, crumpling it just like he had the last one as anger inside of him began to boil.
Married.
June, Etta, and Ada were all married.
The information had been easy enough for Asher to find. He’d been going from town to town, heading west, just like the girls were supposed to do. Stopped into all the saloons for miles, because saloons were where the loose-lipped liked to hang out.
Apparently, he’d gotten just the information he was looking for. Turned out there was a man named Thomas Turner with more than enough to say, and all Asher had to do to get him to spill his guts was to offer a little bit of incentive in the form of money and future cooperation.
Trey growled heatedly. He knew he shouldn’t have listened to Asher. The girls were trying to screw him over. Big time. Take off with his money, get married, and try to short-change him not only in money—but in help. And now they were married, with no way for him to interfere!
It was obvious what they were doing. They were trying to pull off the ultimate job here. Get married and have legal protection from him. But what they hadn’t banked on was that they were his biggest assets, and he didn’t care if they were trying to dodge him.
No marriage was going to stop him from taking what was his.
His breath caught in his throat. After all he had done for those little orphan brats? They thought they could just go off and settle down? Leave him high and dry? No.
He was going to show them exactly who they were dealing with.
Trey Bishop was not to be trifled with.
