CHAPTER 5
PAISLEY JACOBS
Angelina
Even though I don ’ t want to leave them, my friends pull up
to the block near my house. Gia parks the car and shuts off the
lights but stops me before I grab the door handle to leave.
“Are you sure you’ll be alright?” Gia asks.
Rosie chimes in next, “We can go in with you. We know
what your father is like, and this whole thing scares me for you.”
“No, I’ll be fine, I promise. I can handle him. I love you
both for worrying, though.” I reassure them of my safety and
squeeze both their hands to comfort them.
I should be scared right now, and I am, but not as much as I
know they are. They know about everything my father has done,
but until I was legally an adult, none of us could do anything to get
me out of his grasp. I ’ m nervous about getting caught. I don ’ t know
what my father would do, but I know it wouldn ’ t be pretty.
