30. Valerio
THIRTY
VALERIO
I don’t like that our engagement party will be used to bait dangerous people.
Luna sat with a frown on her face, arms crossed, and the white board on the bed once Valerio finished telling her the plan. It was the next day now and she had been in and out of sleep because of the pain medication. He’d spent the day getting work done in his study and checking in on her on the security cameras. His mind was in preparation mode, organizing the delivery of weapons and supplies to the house that he assumed they would be needing soon. That was the whole reason for the trip to Buffalo, to meet with his arms dealer away from his father’s prying eyes while they were preparing themselves. Of course, now everything was escalated. His father remained a threat and so did whoever tried to kill Luna.
When she finally woke up, she demanded to know everything that happened.
For her sake, he left out the part where he believed her father set up the assassination attempt on her life. That would be far too much stress on her after everything.
“If it means keeping you safe, then we have to try,” Valerio told her. He slipped his T-shirt off, throwing it over the chair of Luna’s new vanity.
She cleared her throat. “I don’t want to sacrifice my engagement party for it.”
He cringed at how rough her voice sounded. “Don’t talk.”
“This is an emergency,” she said.
“No, it’s not,” he rebutted. “Plan the engagement party to whatever extent you want. We’ll catch whoever it is lowkey, so you can still enjoy the party and celebrate our engagement.”
“And where will you be?” Luna asked.
He slipped off his pants, walking to throw it in the hamper inside the walk-in closet before coming back out to stand in front of the bed. It bought him a couple of seconds to build up the courage to face her because despite how sweet she was, she was the one person he was actually intimidated by.
“I will save my torture until after the party,” he promised. “Now, will you join me in the shower?”
She shook her head. “You’re not understanding what the issue is.”
Valerio’s nostrils flared. “Write it on the damn white board.”
“No,” she said. “It makes me feel restricted.”
He sighed, sitting on the bed. “I don’t want you damaging your voice.”
“If I’m so damaged, how am I supposed to attend an engagement party?” She raised her brow at him, swallowing harshly.
“You’ll feel better by next week.”
“I don’t want special events in my life to be used for your mafia affairs,” she said. “We’re only getting married once.”
“This is only for your sake,” he said. “I wouldn’t be doing any of this if you weren’t almost killed a couple of nights ago.”
Her attitude sobered up immediately. Valerio saw the change in her demeanor, how her shoulders tensed and her face became pale.
“Can you please not remind me?” Luna asked, her voice considerably quieter than before.
Valerio’s eyes softened. “I’m sorry.” He grabbed her hand, pressing a kiss to the back of it. “When we catch whoever set this up, I swear to you nothing like that will ever happen again. I just need this one event and then we live in bliss.”
Luna sighed. “Fine. I’m not letting you touch my wedding.”
“Our wedding,” he corrected with a smirk.
“We’ll see about that,” she said, a smile on her face. “Now, go shower. You stink.”
“I can’t reach my back. Care to help?” His brow was quirked up in question.
“Only because I need a shower too.” She got out of bed, following him into the bathroom.
He turned on the shower, making sure it was the scalding temperature she loved while she undressed. He ran his gaze along the length of her naked body, still believing there was nothing more beautiful in the world.
He let her enter first, following in right after. They both stood under two different streams of water across from each other. He grabbed her shampoo, pouring some in his hand to lather it into her hair. His fingers massaged her hair, forcing her to let out sighs of contentment.
“I need a dress for the party.” She leaned against his body with his hardening cock pressed against her ass.
“Order however many you want.” He washed the shampoo out of her hair, pressing kisses against her neck. They were gentle, not rough and possessive like they usually were. But given the state of her neck, he didn’t want to cause more damage.
Luna arched her back, letting his dick grind against her ass. He ran his hands down her body, grabbing a handful of her breasts in each palm. She leaned her head against his chest, reaching behind her to grab him.
His left hand drifted down, stroking through the folds of her pussy before he settled on her clit, rubbing small circles.
She turned around, connecting her lips to his. He grabbed a fistful of her ass, lifting her up and pressing her back against the shower wall. Steam covered the tight space, making everything feel hotter.
Valerio wasted no time entering her. He thrusted in and out, groaning when she pulled his hair. They both needed this, one moment to forget about everything happening in their lives.
Her back arched off the tiled shower wall, pushing her impossibly closer into Valerio’s body. He moved with more fervor, taking her over the edge once and for all.
Luna gasped, impaling his back with her nails. His thrusts sped up before he let out an animalistic growl, filling her until she was impossibly full.
“Good girl,” he muttered, pressing a kiss against her forehead as she slumped onto his shoulder.
She could only muster up a gentle smile, leaning against him while he finished washing her hair and body. She returned the favor, lathering up the loofa before trailing it over his body, letting the soapy beads cover every crevice of his toned body. He could only watch her in awe, her touch driving him insane.
When they were done, he brought her up food, making sure she ate before she took her meds for the night. He pulled her body into his, holding her close and inhaling the sweet coconut smell that she always had in her hair.
“Are we going to be okay, Val?” she asked, her voice thick with exhaustion.
“Yes,” he said without hesitation. “We’ll be fine.” And as she slipped off to sleep, his mind raced with a million thoughts.
He hoped for all of their sakes that they would be.
