129. Hermes
Hermes
When they spoke of the Gods,
Hermes was the one always
associated with laughter.
His wit was legendary,
he was a trickster, a deceiver.
As just a baby, he had outwitted Apollo,
his own brother the Sun God,
by making a meal of Apollo’s favourite cows,
turning their insides into a lyre
for the Sun God who loved music.
As he got older still,
he aided Zeus in hiding from Hera,
cleverly ensuring his place
among the Olympians as much more
than a messenger God.
Hermes knew from an early age
how to be crafty enough for posterity.
And yet, it was for precisely this reason
I had to wonder why he would possibly
want to save or protect me?
