143. Shock Flooded My Body
Shock Flooded My Body
‘ Hermes, what have you done?!’
I stared at the staff and tried to take it.
He held it away from my grasp,
‘I did what my friends asked me to do.’
This is what Olympians do ,
I chided myself. I was so foolish,
trusting him as I had.
‘Your friends asked you to—’
‘They were tired of this place,’
Hermes told me, looking at the staff.
‘Tired?’ I asked him, gesturing
to a forever glen flooded with sunshine.
‘They want to travel. This place,
it has dulled.’ Hermes looked at me.
‘Dulled,’ I repeated softly, thinking.
Perhaps he was right.
There were few joys to be had
if you were a deathless thing.
If novelty did not visit you,
you must invent it.
