Chapter 15

Chapter Fifteen

Luke stood just outside the portal that he used to go through to reach Hell. Furious, he put his hand up to the shimmery veil that separated the realms.

It seared his flesh.

Cursing, he wanted blood. His banishment stung even more than the burn he’d just been given. Mostly because it wasn’t as superficial as his hand. His banishment burned to his soul.

’Cause, Fuck you, Ken.

If he ever laid hands on Shaddix again…

He practically salivated at the thought.

But that wasn’t why he was here.

The portal began to shimmer.

Luke prepared himself in case the one coming through wasn’t the one he’d come to meet.

A shadow flickered in the portal an instant before it came through and materialized in front of him.

Tall, slender, and beautiful, Senka was a creature of complete lethality. Her dark skin contrasted sharply with her amber eyes. A color she’d gifted to him.

And eyes that softened as soon as she saw him. She pulled him in for a hug and a quick kiss on his cheek.

Then she slapped him. “What are you doing here? Have you any idea how dangerous this is?”

Rubbing at his stinging cheek, he glared at her. “I know, but it couldn’t wait.”

“Yes. It could.” She placed a hand on her hip as she glared at him.

Luke rubbed his stinging cheek. “You don’t even know what it is.”

“Whatever it is, it’s not as important as your well-being. You could have summoned me.”

“I was in a hurry. I need to borrow some of your troops.”

His mother scowled at him. “Why?”

“Sorcha is under attack. Necos are after her, and she was shot on the street. I want someone other than lackadaisical demons to watch her and make sure no one else gets near her.”

A deep frown furrowed her beautiful brow. “How many are you thinking?”

Two hundred. Minimum. But Sorcha would never go for that.

Damn it.

He had to be more reasonable and he hated being reasonable. Especially when it concerned the safety of someone he cared about. “Four.”

“Done. I’ll send them to guard her. Now get out of here before you’re seen!”

No sooner had his mother said that than the portal opened. Six of his father’s enforcers stepped out of it.

Good.

Luke summoned a flaming hellfire fireball he’d inherited from his father, and tossed it at the enforcer nearest him.

The enforcer screamed in agony and fell back through the portal.

Ignoring him, the other five dove to tackle Luke.

Luke teleported, then grabbed the one nearest his mother and twisted his head off.

Oh, he was glad Sorcha wasn’t here. She’d be horrified. He, on the other hand, was thrilled.

The other four turned to charge him, but before they could, his mother zapped them out of there.

Luke glared at her. “Really? I need to vent spleen on them.”

“You need to get out of here. Go!”

Wanting to argue, but knowing it would be futile, he did as she said.

A few more fights and I’ll be back to normal.

Or would he? He should be euphoric. In the past, tearing the head off something had been orgasmic.

While he’d enjoyed it, it lacked the luster it’d held in the past.

Didn’t matter. He knew what would reinstate his happiness.

With that thought in mind, he returned to the human realm where he could pick up the scent of the one creature he wanted to kill.

Well, that wasn’t entirely true. There were a number of creatures he wanted to kill.

This one, however, was imperative.

The heat returned to his hands. Even now, he could see the blood on Sorcha. Feel her breath rattling in her chest.

Had he not been there, she’d be dead.

The images of her sister’s crime scene haunted him. He hated looking them over because it was Sorcha’s face in each photograph. If Siobhan had been even a tenth as kind as her sister, then her death was a travesty.

It was why he’d spent hours trying to figure out who’d done it. Looking for a clue that had escaped everyone else’s attention. Sadly, it’d happened too long ago for him to hunt the killer by scent.

Unlike the idiot who’d gone after Sorcha today.

You are mine.

And he wasn’t feeling merciful.
