Chapter 28
Gideon Stone
Hydrating?
I’m always hydrated. It’s definitely too soon to be texting him, “My pee is clear.”
Dani Sommer
Always!
Gideon and I have been exchanging flirty texts since we had dinner on Tuesday. Although I’m anxiously awaiting him to ask me out again, I’m not pressing the subject. It’s only been two days.
Gideon Stone
Have a minute to talk?
My heart rate surges. I hope it’s a good kind of talk. It has to be, right? My anxiety is unwarranted. I take a deep breath and respond.
Dani Sommer
Yeah.
The phone rings instantly, and I answer, trying to sound calm.
“Hello.”
“What do you think about going to Traverse City for the weekend?”
“The weekend? I think that sounds like a loophole for our third and final date.”
“Final,” he grumbles. “Have you ever been?”
“No. I hear it’s romantic and has great wineries.” I pause. “If this is your idea of an April Fool’s joke, it’s cruel.” Saturday is April first, after all.
“This is not an April Fool’s joke.” He laughs. “I want to take you on a long weekend.”
“That’s a lot of time to spend with me in a car,” I tease. “Sure you’re ready for that?”
“Car? No. Plane.”
“Plane?” Traverse City is a well-known Midwest vacation destination in Michigan, but not a major city.
“Private,” he says into the silence. “Won’t even take an hour.”
“Ball so hard.”
“Seriously, do you like this idea, or do you want to do something else?”
“I love this idea!”
“Great. Pack a bag. I’ll pick you up at five tomorrow. And keep hydrating.”
I giggle. Then, my mind wanders. Adam never flew me private. The only time we flew together was for a work trip.
Gideon’s voice breaks my intrusive thoughts. “Five tomorrow?” he asks again.
“Yes! Can’t wait.”
