Chapter 59

Gideon has been sequestered in his office for hours. He’s been in there since eight o’clock this morning, and it’s already six in the evening.

“Someone else is not following the itinerary,” I mumble to myself.

Dani Sommer

Itinerary says it’s dinnertime. Where is dinner?

Seconds later, I hear him laugh in the office.

Gideon Stone

Sorry. Spreadsheet. Be right out.

“Dinner will be here in forty,” he says, exiting his office. I instinctively check him out, loving this man in a T-shirt and sweats.

“I think you need to go up a size unless you’re going for that look,” I tease.

“Yeah?” he asks, looking down at himself, and I see the pride on his face. He is extra-large in all the best ways. I giggle internally.

“Do you want a snack?” he asks, opening his pantry.

“You’re a snack.” I wink, then lift my wineglass, having already made myself at home.

“I like this. You being comfortable in my place. That reminds me. Let me add you to my guest list so you can come over whenever, even if I’m not home.”

“Whoa. That’s a big step.”

“Is it?” He sits beside me on the couch with a protein bar in hand. “You’re my girlfriend.”

I sip my wine, considering this significant step in our relationship. It feels right.

“Come here,” I whisper, and we make out. “Did I hear some baby-making metal being played in your office?” I ask after we kiss for a few minutes.

“What kind of metal?” He raises a brow.

“You heard me.”

“I’ve never heard that phrase before.”

“Because you’re not on TikTok.”

“Are you trying to make me feel old?”

“I mean, you are thirty-seven.” I giggle. “When’s your birthday?”

“January nineteenth. How about you?”

“September first.”

“My baby … I like that nickname for you.”

Softly smiling, I broach an idea. “Can I please pitch you for a profile? You did so well on the podcast. I know people at The Real Deal and Business Insider. They’d love to feature you.

Business Insider could do a ‘day in the life’ angle, and the other profile could focus more on your success in real estate. ”

“Don’t make a job out of it.”

“It will be two emails.”

“Okay. You can send two emails on my behalf.”

“This is how it starts.” I smirk. “Next thing you know, you’re banging your publicist.”

“Is that how it happened with … him?”

“No!”

“How did it happen?”

“I broke into a house he was renting.”

“No, seriously?”

“Seriously.”
