Epilogue
Sadie
We’re at Grounds and the girls have so much to tell me. I haven’t told them what happened because I never want to be reminded of it again. So, I told them I went to visit my brother for a couple of weeks as he wasn’t feeling too good.
But thanks to Miles, Dan is doing amazing. I still won’t see him until I know he’s one hundred percent good. I don’t know if it’s because I’m scared he’ll see me and go back to the way he was, or if I see him, I’ll break down seeing him recover.
Miles has been giving me updates on him and also changed his program which he refuses to take any money from me for. He told me it’s time I look after myself and not Dan.
It took Miles a week before he could move his arm fully again, did that stop him from working on his computers? No. He would shout and cuss at the screen because he wasn’t moving quick enough, which made me laugh.
“Are you working on a new floor piece?” Maya asks.
“I am. I think I want something a little more upbeat. I’m meeting with coach tomorrow to talk through my ideas.” I turn to them, taking my eyes off the menu. “What about you?” I ask.
I had to tell coach the truth about what happened, I wasn't working at the rate I normally did, and she’s the one who told me to take a break and come back when I'm ready. Now I’m ready.
Miles places his hand on my thigh, and I turn to face him. “I’m going to order food, what do you want?”
I smile, I love looking at his face, it’s one sexy face. “Surprise me.” I lean in closer and give him a kiss.
Miles and Mason go to order food for us, and I turn back to the girls.
“Is he good in bed? Good kisser? I want all the details.” Maya looks over to make sure Miles isn’t coming back.
“Yes, yes, and I’m not telling you anything.” I shake my head; she always wants to know the details of everything. She needs to find herself a man.
“I knew you two were going to end up together,” she adds and I roll my eyes at her.
Miles and Mason rejoin us, and Jaya looks at Miles, he lifts his brow. “Yes?”
“You know if you hurt her, I will come for you.” Her eyes narrow as if she’s trying to scare him, and if anyone would hurt him, I think it would be her.
Miles laughs, glancing at Mason before replying. “You put the fear into me; I won’t hurt her.” Mason bursts out laughing and Maya throws a napkin at him.
Our food is placed on the table, and I listen to Mason and Miles talking.
“Lincoln is coming with me to the place to see if we can get anything. We’ve only done a quarter of the place,” Mason says and I know they’re talking about the warehouse, but I’ve never asked what they’re doing there.
“I’ve got everything you’ve given me on the system, and I’m waiting for it to flag.” Miles takes out his phone from his pocket and slides it over to Mason who looks through it.
“Nothing, there’s nothing," Mason says, annoyed about it.
“Maybe if you take your time with the people you have, they might give you something. You move too fast and they…” Miles stops to make sure the girls aren’t listening. “They die,” he whispers.
“Fuck you,” Mason snaps making Miles laugh, and I look at Mason.
When you look at Mason, you wouldn’t think he is this crazy person with a bat, he looks… I don’t know what the word is for him, but from what Miles has told me, he’s crazy.
“Are you coming over tonight?” Miles asks.
Miles asked me to move into his house with him, but I said no. As much as I love being near him, we're so new into our relationship that moving in together felt way too quick. Plus, I love knowing he’s watching me when I’m home.
“We’re having movie night.” I move closer to him and smile. “My laptop will be open.” Miles starts laughing. “What?”
“You think I watch you through the laptop camera?” He laughs, his mouth close to my ear. “I put cameras all around your dorm the moment I could. I love the morning showers.” He kisses the side of my neck, and I push him away.
“You didn’t.”
“I did, and I promise you won’t find them.” He kisses me quickly, then pulls out his phone from his pocket and smiles. “You want some fun?” he asks Mason.
Mason smiles, when Miles slides the phone to him, and the smile widens on Mason's face. He gets up, says bye to the group then leaves, and I know I shouldn’t ask, but I still do.
“Where’s he going?’
“To have fun,” Miles says looking at his phone, and I lean in to see a picture of a man, with his address. Miles puts the phone away, leans back, his arm coming across the back of my chair.
I get back to the conversation with the girls while Miles works on his phone as he normally does at home. One thing I’ve learned about Miles, even when he’s out of his bedroom and away from the computer, he’s still working on his phone.
Miles kisses the side of my cheek. “Have fun tonight, I’ll be waiting for you to get back to your dorm.” He winks and turns to Jaya. “Stay out of trouble.”
“Always do,” she jokes with him, making him laugh.
Miles gives me another kiss then leaves Grounds, and I can’t stop smiling.
Our relationship is only now starting, but I know Miles Crawford is my man, and I’m the happiest girl in the world.
“Be right back,” I tell the girls, and run out to Miles. “Miles!” I shout at him to stop.
“Miss me already?’ He smiles and I stop in front of him.
I stare at him for a moment, I know he's the one for me, there’ll be no one else after him.
“I always miss you when you’re not around.” I take a step closer to him, I get up on tip-toes as I place my arms around his neck, moving closer and closer to him. “I love you.” Miles smiles as I say the words.
“And you choose to say those words when I can’t get to you in bed and make you scream it over and over again.” I bite my bottom lip, and he smiles.
“I’m sure you’ll make a visit; I want a visit.” Miles wraps his arms tighter around my waist pulling me closer to him.
“Sadie Elliot, I love you and will make you happy every single day until my last breath.” He slams his lips into mine, and kisses me so hard, and so full of passion I don’t want him to stop.
I made a promise to save my brother, not knowing what it would cost me, but it cost me nothing because now after everything, I’ve been through in my life, this is the way I dreamed my life will end up. Happy, a group of friends and a man who loves me more than anything in the world.
