Chapter 30 #2
But the fear in her eyes is real. And suddenly I start to feel like an asshole for even suspecting her in the first place.
“It’s not your fault Jules. Nobody could have known this was going to happen.” I should have. After she told me what Tyler confessed to her, I should have had eyes on her at all times.
And I never should have let her walk out the door last night.
Jules begins sobbing again and I look back at Cole for some help. I’ve never been one to handle tears very well.
Giving me an understanding nod, he stands from his chair and sets the folder down on the seat. He strides over and gently wraps his arms around her shoulders.
“Jules, was it?” His words are calm and measured.
She lifts her head and looks up at Cole, and a soft smile plays on his lips. “Mmhmmm.” She nods.
“How about you and I go to the cafeteria and torture ourselves with some bland food and horrible coffee?” He coaxes her out of the chair and leads her out of the room, her sniffs trailing behind them and disappearing down the hall.
It’s just myself and Serena left in the room. The beeping of the monitor and hiss of the ventilator torturing me with each beat.
I sit back down in the chair next to her bed and check my phone. On the way to the hospital, I texted Theo after hanging up with Cole. Asking him to find any footage that would give me answers on who attacked my girl.
No text, but I do have a new email.
I open the message from Theo and all it reads is you’re going to want to see this , followed by a video.
Bracing myself, I open the attachment and press play.
At first, I don’t see anything. Just Serena’s car in the parking lot. Then I see her walk into frame.
Dread chills my veins, knowing what is about to happen.
She looks scared. Her pace hurried and she kept checking behind her. Like she’s looking for something, or someone. I chuckle a little when I see her scold herself for jumping at the raccoon.
And then…
Movement from the backseat catches my eye.
Serena barely has a chance to get comfortable before whoever is in the back seat shoves her face forward into the steering wheel. The video is silent, but somehow that makes it even worse.
I can’t hear her scream.
Can’t hear the impact or the panic I know must have ripped through her at that moment. All I can see is her body jerking violently before the car is shaking from the force.
I sit in horror as I watch the attack. Like I’m watching from behind a pane of glass and I can’t do anything to stop it. My stomach churns and bile burns the back of my throat. It’s so hard to see her like this, but I have to see who gets out of that car.
Anything I am feeling right now doesn’t compare, or even come close, to what my Little Firecracker had to suffer. If I could take away her pain, I would.
I would walk through fire so she wouldn’t get burned. Step in front of a gun and take the bullet for her, without a thought. And I will kill whoever is in that car with Serena.
Time feels like it is slowing down as I wait for the attack to be over. Every assault taunting me. Showing me how I failed to keep Serena safe.
Finally, the back door opens, and I see a figure exit. It’s a female, but I can’t see who it is. Her face shrouded by the shadows of the night.
She turns to walk away from the car and that’s when I am able to see her. The fake platinum blonde and plastic tits emerging under the light of the streetlamp. Her face smug and lacking any remorse at all.
I stand and throw my phone against the wall, shattering it into pieces across the room.
Savannah has just made the biggest mistake of her life.
She thought I was pissed when she threatened Serena in the club? This bitch has another thing coming, and she isn’t going to be able to stop me.
She better hope she is right with whatever God she prays to, because she will be taking a one-way trip to the afterlife when I am done with her.
Grabbing Serena’s hand, I lean down and press my lips against hers, kissing her softly. “I’ll be back Mi Vida. I promise, I am going to make this right.” Resting my forehead against hers one last time before I leave.
Cole and Jules are waiting out in the hallway with their coffee, smiles on both of their faces. When he sees me walking toward them, he hands Jules his coffee and stands.
“I know who attacked Serena.” That’s all I need to say for him to know that I’m leaving and need him to take watch over Serena. He is the only other person in this world I would trust with her life.
“Jules and I will wait with her while you’re gone.” He grabs Jules by her hand and she blushes. I raise an eyebrow at him and he smirks. Of all the time to get some ass, he chooses this one?
“We won’t leave her side, Isaac.” Jules rests her hand on my forearm. “I promise. And I will text you with any update.”
That reminds me. I hold my hand out in front of Cole. “One more thing, I need to borrow your phone.”
“Whats wrong with your own?”
“It's in pieces all over the room.”
Cole sighs and hands me his cell. “You really need to work on your temper.”
I nod and stride toward the elevator. Pressing the button for the parking garage, I dial Theo’s number and put him on speakerphone.
“Yo?” He answers.
“Find her.” I hang up and exit the elevator into the parking garage.
Getting into my car, I look in the backseat and see the blood. Flashbacks of Serena laying back there unconscious flood my mind and rage builds inside me. My shoulders tense and my knuckles turn white from gripping the steering wheel.
A text comes through on Cole's phone with a single address.
The address that will lead me to redemption.
I enter it into my GPS and it says it is going to take me two hours to get there. Perfect. Gives me time to think of all the ways I’m going to torture this bitch for what she did to Serena.
And I am going to enjoy every minute of it.
