Chapter Five

I grin as I see her just stare at me. I couldn’t help myself. I need her like I need air. It’s like no time has passed. I was so obsessed with her in high school.
“Are you coming?” I repeat.
Blakely sighs dramatically. “Not yet.” She huffs and finally gets out of her chair.
I want to laugh, but I don’t. “What did you make for lunch?” Blakely asks.
This time I do laugh. “It’s uh…” I pause for a moment. I don’t want to tell her the actual name of the dish. “It’s chicken. I saw some crockpot recipe that seemed easy enough to do.” I shrug it off hoping that she won’t ask more about it.
“What’s it called?” She asks.
“Marry Me Chicken.”
Blakely laughs. “Wow. Take a girl to dinner before you ask her to marry her,” she teases me. “It smells delicious.”
Her laugh makes me feel like I’m finally at home. “It looked good. I just renovated the kitchen, so I haven’t really cooked anything yet. I’m getting new cookware.”
Blakely sits down at the table and gives me those big puppy dog eyes that I can’t ever say no to. “Can you get me a bowl, please?” She bats her eyelashes at me.
I just want to grab her and kiss her. What I wouldn’t give to have her be mine. Again.
“It is my pleasure to serve you, my Queen,” I tell her with a dramatic bow. She turns in her seat to watch me as I get plates to get us food. “Do you want something to drink?” I ask her.
“Surprise me.”
Surprise her. Okay. I can do that. After I get our food and place them at the table, I go in the fridge and grab two cans of Sprite. I don’t drink pop a lot, but this one I indulge in on occasion.
“You still drink Sprite?” she asks like it’s a surprise.
“You say that like it’s chocolate milk or something a four-year-old would be drinking.”
“I’m just surprised.” Blakely Shrugs.
“Why?”
“Because.” She looks down at her plate.
I grin. This is going to be fun. I walk closer to her and use my one finger to tilt her head up to look at me. “I thought we talked about you using your words for me.”
Blakely’s cheeks turn pink, but she doesn’t move away from me. “You look like you go to the gym seven days a week. I didn’t think you drank anything with sugar in it,” she finally tells me.
I laugh and release her chin. “Good girl.” I praise before taking my seat. “We should eat. I don’t want you eating cold food.”
