Epilogue
THE HEX he’d felt their presence as strongly as she had.
She paused.
“They’re important,” Elara said.
“Yes.”
“She’s lost.”
“He’ll help her find what she needs,” Rowan said. “He’s the type.”
Elara considered this. “The type?”
“The type who claims what’s his. He’ll make sure she understands that she no longer has to fight her battles alone. He’ll be her shield and her strength.”
“She won’t find what she needs until she stops running,” Elara said.
“They’ll run together. When they stop, all will settle,” Rowan said. He set the cloth down and looked at the table near the hearth where the two had sat. “She left the bond open. She doesn’t know it yet, but she did.”
Elara smiled her quiet smile. “Do you think she’ll fight it?”
“I think she’ll be confused if she tries to dissolve their bond and finds out she can’t,” Rowan said.
“Interesting. Apparently, some bonds can’t be engineered,” Elara said.
“No,” Rowan’s voice was low and firm, “some must be left to fate.”
