Storm

There are moments...

When life divides itself forever.

Before.

And after.

I knew...

Without understanding why...

That I had just crossed that line.

"Your father was murdered."

The words echoed through my mind.

They didn't make sense.

They couldn't.

My father had died at sea.

Everyone knew that.

There had been investigations.

Reports.

Condolences.

Funerals.

Now...

One sentence had shattered twenty years of certainty.

And I didn't have time to think about any of it.

Because another voice cut through the silence.

"Storm!"

"RUN!"

Every instinct took over.

I didn't freeze.

I didn't panic.

I moved.

"Calle!"

"Hard to port!"

Her answer came instantly.

"Hard to port!"

Sea Whisper heeled gently as her bow began to swing.

"Ben!"

"Already moving!"

"Ward!"

"I've got starboard!"

The calm disappeared.

Not into chaos.

Into purpose.

Below deck...

The intercom came alive.

"Everyone."

"Brace yourself."

"Remain inside."

"Stay away from windows."

Storm's voice never shook.

Not once.

Hazel was already moving before the announcement ended.

"Frank."

"Rose."

"With me."

Rose stood immediately.

"What happened?"

"We'll explain later."

"But right now..."

Hazel offered her hand.

"...I need you to trust us."

Frank never hesitated.

"We do."

They followed her toward the reinforced interior passageway.

Willow reached the salon from the galley.

She looked toward Ivy.

Their eyes met.

Neither spoke.

Neither had to.

The words Nathan had spoken still hung between them.

Murdered.

Willow felt tears threaten.

She swallowed them back.

Later.

She could cry later.

Right now...

Storm needed every one of them.

Ivy grabbed her camera.

Scott noticed.

"Seriously?"

She looked at him.

"If we survive this..."

"...I want evidence."

Scott blinked once.

Then grinned.

"I've officially adopted all of you.”

“You will survive.”

“You have us.”

On the bridge...

Ward tracked the approaching RHIB through his binoculars.

"Six occupants."

Ben looked over.

"Weapons?"

"I can't tell."

"They're keeping low."

Nathan's voice boomed across the water.

"They're not ours!"

Storm looked toward him.

He was already issuing orders aboard his own vessel.

His crew moved with practiced precision.

Lines were being cast off.

Engines roared louder.

The trawler surged forward.

Not toward Sea Whisper.

Toward the approaching RHIB.

Ward's eyes widened.

"He really is trying to stop them."

The black RHIB accelerated.

Its twin outboards screamed across the Pacific.

White spray exploded behind it.

It wasn't changing course.

It was committed.

Storm tightened both hands on the wheel.

Her father's face flashed through her mind.

Then Grandpa's.

Then her mother.

Waiting back in San Francisco.

Elanore had kissed each of them goodbye before they sailed.

"Come home safe."

Just four simple words.

Storm whispered them to herself.

"We're coming home."

Ben glanced at Ward.

"Rules?"

Ward smiled.

"Same as always."

"Protect the innocent."

"No matter what."

Nathan's trawler cut hard across the RHIB's path.

The helmsman aboard the RHIB reacted instantly.

Too late.

Its driver veered sharply to avoid a collision.

The RHIB slammed into the side of a swell.

It launched completely clear of the water.

For one breathtaking second...

The black boat hung suspended against the blue Pacific.

Then crashed back down with a thunderous explosion of spray.

One man was thrown overboard.

Another barely held on.

The driver fought to regain control.

Nathan never took his eyes off them.

He quietly spoke to his helmsman.

"Again."

The trawler turned.

Not to ram.

To herd.

To push.

Like an old sheepdog refusing to let wolves reach the flock.

Ward watched in amazement.

"He knows exactly what he's doing."

Ben nodded.

"So did James Sinclair."

Storm looked toward the old captain.

For just a heartbeat...

Their eyes met across the water.

Neither smiled.

Neither waved.

Neither spoke.

They didn't need to.

In that single moment...

Storm understood one thing with absolute certainty.

Nathan Hale hadn't come to chase Sea Whisper.

He had come to stand between her family...

...and whatever nightmare had finally caught up to them.
