Chapter 8 #2
Nails scratch at the back of my neck, tugging on my hair as she cries out. “Em- Yes. Oh, I’m- Emmett.”
I don’t stop when she comes, forcing her to keep taking me until I hurtle over the edge, my cum spilling deep inside her. The lights dance as my eyes fall closed, a choked moan pressing to her skin as my dick jerks.
When we’ve caught our breath, she climbs off my lap, wincing when our combined release leaks down her thighs. Chuckling, I grab her bag and use a wipe to clean us both up.
She takes the bodycage off and gets dressed before returning to my lap. I hold her close, enjoying how she snuggles against me while we search through Moonlight Knottiness’ catalogue.
In the end, she picks several other pieces. We order them before heading back to the car to head to the next stop for our date. It’s an hour outside of Starburgh, so I swing through a drive-thru and grab us both a drink for the road.
Listening to Skye sing along with the radio, a huge smile on her face, is the highlight of my day.
I guide the car off the main road and down a long gravel drive.
A large wooden sign planted off to one side marks this as the entrance to Green Meadows Range.
Curious green eyes turn to me as we reach the main building, a boisterous laugh filling the air when she spies the field of archery targets behind it.
Her happiness is contagious, affecting each employee we meet as we get set up with equipment for the afternoon. At our place in LA, she has her own bow, but because we didn’t bring it with us, we have to rent one.
“Should I go for a recurve or a compound?” she ponders, finger tapping her chin as she examines the options on the wall behind the counter.
Grabbing a black recurve for myself, I shrug. “Why not pick one now and swap it out later if you change your mind?”
Dancing in delight, she accepts a bright blue compound bow and a covered quiver full of arrows. “Thank you.”
The owner points us to a door that leads to the range out back. We’re the only people here this late in the day, so we take our time and work through the various distances, competing to see whose precision has weathered our time away from the sport.
“Ha. I win.” Skye cheers as we check over our last target, her arrow sitting an eighth of an inch closer to the bullseye than mine. “What’s my prize?”
Putting our arrows back into their quivers, I grab her bow and carry both back inside. “Whatever your heart desires, sweetheart. Though we both know you don’t need to win a competition to receive it.”
She hums, tucking herself against my side as we return our equipment and leave. “I want to sleep in your bed tonight.”
My chest aches, the love I feel for her swells until it feels as though I’ll burst into a million pieces of grotesque human confetti.
“You are always welcome in my bed.” I press a kiss to the top of her head and thank the Fates for guiding her into my life.
When Shattered Horizons formed ten years ago, I never thought the band would fall apart the way it did. My bandmates bowing out, one after the other, leaving me with a revolving door of temporary replacements.
I hadn’t realized how lonely I felt until Onyx, Sterling, and Bellamy auditioned to fill the holes in the band. There wasn’t a mystical, instantaneous connection with them, not like what they share, but there was kinship. And that was enough.
Or so I thought. Meeting Skye changed my life in ways I never imagined. Suddenly, the stories my Omi used to tell weren’t just the ramblings of an old woman. I could understand the awestruck devotion the men she spoke of felt.
In a matter of moments, my entire world pivoted, revolving around the breathtaking Omega standing across the room.
And I never looked back.
It was weird at first. Being straight in her pack. The others were polyamorous, and there were moments I felt like the odd one out. Until my friendship with Quentin grew, and I found out he was also straight. Together, we learned to embrace our roles in the pack.
We still hit speed bumps, but she helps us navigate them. Her love anchors us, allowing our family to grow and evolve.
“Life without you would be desolation,” I blurt out as I help her into the car.
Long lashes flutter against her cheek as she accepts a quick kiss. “I love you too, Emmett. So much it hurts.”
As we leave the range and head back to Starburgh, my phone rings with a conference call from my family. “Hello, Omi,” I answer loudly.
“Emmett. Where is my favorite granddaughter-in-law?”
Skye giggles, calling out her own greeting.
“Happy birthday, dear. Have those mates of yours been spoiling you today?”
“They sure have. Emmett has already taken me shopping and to the archery range.”
My big sister Isolde cuts in, her voice booming through the car’s speakers. She never did learn to use an inside voice. “Make sure he feeds you. No birthday is complete without food.”
Rolling my eyes, I huff as Skye promises my family I am feeding her.
They talk for the rest of our journey, hearing about our trip back to the East Coast. I’m sad they couldn’t make it down for the party tonight, but I understand why.
Isolde is on call at the hospital, and Omi hasn’t been feeling well.
“Enjoy the rest of your day,” my grandmother tells us as we exit the highway toward the estate. “And come visit when you have a chance.”
Stopping outside the main house, I lean across the console and press my lips to Skye’s cheek. “I hope you had fun today.”
So much love fills her eyes when she faces me, soft lips brushing against mine. “I always have fun with you, Emmett. Thank you for spoiling me today.”
“Let’s go celebrate with the rest of our pack.”
And the guests waiting to surprise her.
