Chapter Twenty-Eight

Torquil returned to Eilidh’s bedchamber to find her pacing the floor, eyes rimmed red from crying. The look she gave him when he entered pierced him straight through his heart.

“Ye accepted the duel,” she screamed, pain making her voice crack. “Ye dinnae have to prove aught to him!”

He shook his head, if only it were that easy. “Then what do ye want me to do? Let him think I am weak?” he shouted back.

“I dinnae care if ye are weak,” she cried. “I care if ye live.”

He dropped his chin to his chest. He didn’t want to fight. “I wish ye could understand that I have nay choice.”

“Ye do!” she yelled. “Ye always have a choice,” her voice was bitter, hurt.

The argument peaked, both of them realizing that though they fought for opposing reasons, the overall feeling was the same. Underlying their fight, pushing everything to the surface was fear.

Silence fell betwixt them as they stared at each other, breathing hard, pain reflected in their eyes.

Torquil closed the space betwixt them and whispered, “E’erything I do—e’ery daft choice—I do for ye.

Eilidh tipped her face up at him, lifting on her toes so she could kiss him.

He wrapped his arms around her, squeezing her tight.

She hardened the kiss, her moves frantic.

Desperate. They match his own fears and feelings.

He pushed her back until they tumbled onto the bed, their emotions erupting into physical need.

He needed to feel her. To be lost inside of her.

They stripped out of their clothes quickly, throwing them to the floor, and fall back onto the bed, arms and legs tangling, as Torquil nipped at her neck.

As Eilidh sighed in pleasure. He captured her mouth in his, drawing her lower lip into his and bit down.

She whimpered, and the sound made him hard as steel.

“Make me forget,” she whispered.

He moved so he was sitting with his back against the headboard. “Come here, Firebrand. Claim me as yers.”

Tentatively, at first, Eilidh moved to straddle his hips.

He helped her guide his length to her opening and let out a hiss as she slowly, painstakingly, sank down taking him all in.

Once she was fully seated, he let her adjust, then prompted her to move her hips.

With desperate eyes, she grasped his shoulders and took control, their eyes never leaving each other, as she quickened her pace, her breath coming out in hot gasps that whispered across his skin.

His fingers dug into her hips as his toes curled. “Ye feel so good, Firebrand. Dinnae stop. Dinnae slow.” He squeezed her tighter as he leaned forward and kissed her neck.

Her moans grew louder as her face flushed. Her gaze taking on a faraway look and he kenned she was close. She quickened the pace, riding him as if it were the last time.

Her moves became uncontrolled as he started to feel her tighten around him. Wanting to meet their release at the same time, he shifted, so he could take control. Plunging into her heat, letting her consume him. Until he lost all sense of being.

They cried out each other’s names simultaneously as the world around them exploded into starlight.

When his breathing had calmed, Torquil turned to Eilidh. “I love ye, Firebrand. With all my being.”

He placed a gentle kiss on her head and held her.

Until she stirred, and began running her fingers along his chest, down his navel, causing him to shudder, and then she closed her fist around his length, pumping her hand until he was hard as iron once again.

When she dipped her head to take him into the warm, wet heat of her mouth, his hips lifted off the bed.

She stroked him, suckled him, not stopping until he exploded in her mouth, drawing him dry.

He had tried to pull away, but she doubled down, not allowing him to.

She sat up, licking her lips, then kissed him deeply. He could taste himself on her tongue.

“My turn,” he said wickedly, then slowly returned the favor, drawing out her pleasure, bringing her to the edge and drawing back just afore she tumbled over, until she was thrashing on the bed, begging him to give her the pleasure she sought.

With his tongue, he circled her bud, then sucked it into his mouth as he rolled her taut nipples betwixt his fingers.

Her legs clamped down, trapping his head betwixt them as her release overwhelmed her.

“Torquil!” she cried out, as she stiffened and shook, grasping at his hair, his shoulders. Shaking her head back and forth in pure ecstasy.

He watched her in awe. He had never seen aught more beautiful than his wife right then and there.

That was how their night went on. They would sleep in short bursts, then wake up to desperate touches and soft apologies.

Afterward, Torquil held her tightly, placing feather light kisses on her head. As dawn threatened, he murmured, “If I die this morn, ken this. Ye saved me long afore this and I will love ye fore’er.”
