m surrounded at the pre-match warm-up. Surrounded.
Okay, so it's not actually a circle of men, but it definitely
feels that way as I stand at the edge of the field with my
clipboard while Donovan leans against the boards next to me,
describing with great enthusiasm, a taco place he found near his
new apartment. Eight feet away, Rafe does his stretches in a
manner so deliberately unsubtle I'm fairly sure the stretching itself
has become a performance designed for my benefit.
There are hip thrusts involved.
"You have to try it," Donovan says, drawing my attention back
to him. "Best carnitas I've had outside of my abuela's kitchen, and
she'd probably disown me for saying that out loud."
I grin. "High praise. I guess I'm going to have to try it."
