Off the Field
Rafe
amie leaves the house at seven with a muffled farewell
through the wall, leaving me to wallow in silence and self-pity
with the pain in my hip.
The house is different when it's just me in it. I've lived here two
years, and it still catches me off guard sometimes, how empty it can
feel when everyone is out getting busy.
Theo's at his new girlfriend's, and Ozzy hasn't swung by
tonight.
It's cool. I'm used to being alone. I've been alone in hotels in
fourteen countries, in locker rooms after everyone else has gone, in
press conferences where the questions are all about the team and
the answers are all about me. None of that has ever bothered me,
not really.
