Chapter 13
Amara’s POV
My first day at the Night Blood pack hospital started early. As I walked through the doors, I was greeted by the staff, their faces a mix of curiosity and warmth. Mason introduced me to nurse Jenna. She is the head nurse here.
“Welcome, Doctor Amara. We’ve been looking forward to having you with us. Let me introduce you to the team” Jenna offers politely.
I smiled, feeling a bit nervous but ready to take on the day. After meeting the team and getting a brief overview of the hospital’s setup, I headed to Dr. Smith’s room. The former chief doctor lay in a coma, a result of a tragic accident that had left a gaping hole in the pack’s medical leadership.
“Good morning, Dr. Smith” I said softly, standing by his bedside. “We’re all hoping you’ll wake up soon and take back the reins here. Your team needs you”. Even if he can’t reply at the moment, I am very well aware that, patients in coma can hear and understand everything.
I checked his vitals, ensuring everything was stable. I made few changes in the medication which will make his recovery faster. Treating him well was crucial; the pack needed him to wake up and reclaim his role.
As I turned to leave, I heard hurried footsteps approaching. Nurse Jenna rushed in, her face pale with concern. “Doctor, we’ve got three new patients with silver knife wounds. They were attacked by rogues last night”
My heart skipped a beat. “Oh goddess. Lead the way”
In the emergency room, the scene was chaotic. The patients, all young pack members, were in severe pain, their wounds have turned black due silver poisoning. I immediately took charge, instructing the nurses and healers on what to do.
A werewolf body can heal itself even if the wounds are deep. But silver and wolves-bane are like poison to us, they hinder our natural healing process.
“We need to remove the silver residues and clean the wounds thoroughly. Prepare the anti-silver serum and start an IV for each of one them”
After hours of intense effort, the patients were finally stabilised and out of danger. “They’re going to be alright” I said, more to myself than anyone else. The relief in the room was palpable.
The rest of the day was a blur of activity. Between checking on rogue attack victims, tending to the injured and familiarizing myself with the hospital’s routines, I hardly had a moment to breathe. By the time the clock struck 8 PM, I was exhausted but satisfied with the day’s work.
As I was finishing up some paperwork, Mason walked in, his face breaking into a smile when he saw me.”
I checked on the injured warriors. You have done a commendable job at saving them. Thank you Amara” he thanked me whole heartedly.
“No need to thank me. It’s my duty to heal others” I say softly.
“Ready to see your new house?” he asked.
I nodded, feeling a mix of exhaustion and anticipation. “Absolutely”
We drove the short distance to the house near the hospital. It’s hardly 10 minutes walk from hospital.
When Mason opened the door, I was greeted by a spacious, two-story house with four rooms and all the modern amenities I could need.
“I’ve stocked the fridge with basic supplies” he said, showing me the kitchen. “If you need anything else, just let me know” he says with a soft smile.
I looked around, feeling a sense of relief. “This is perfect, Mason. Thank you so much”
He smiled, his eyes kind. “It’s the least we could do. You’ve had a long day, get some rest. Good night, Amara”
“Good night, Mason. Thank you again” I close the front door.
As he left, I stood in the quiet house, taking a moment to appreciate the day’s work and the comfort of my new surroundings. Despite the exhaustion, I felt a sense of accomplishment and a growing connection to the Night Blood pack.

Zachary’s POV
I was lying on my bed. Even though I had assigned security personnel outside Amara’s house, I feel worried about her safety. No one knows yet that she is my mate, so it’s highly unlikely that someone would target her.
Still my mind kept wandering back to her, wondering if she was settling in alright. My wolf, was restless not just from the rogue attack but from the frustration of not being able to protect our mate freely. The weight of the pack’s safety and my own personal turmoil bore heavily on me.
I decided to go for a run to clear my mind. Shifting into my wolf form, I bolted towards the lake, my usual getaway spot. The run was invigorating, the wind rushing through my fur, the scent of the forest calming my nerves. But as I approached the lake, I noticed another wolf sitting near the water.
It was a white wolf, which is an uncommon sight in our pack.
Suddenly, the wind shifted carrying the sweet scent of vanilla and honey.
I knew instantly who it was. It’s Amara.
Hiding behind a tall tree I watched her, curiosity and longing intertwining within me.
She seemed curious about her new territory, exploring and playing in the water.
Without realising it I stepped on a twig, the sound snapping her out of her reverie. She got into a defensive stance, baring her teeth. Slowly, I emerged from the shadows, making sure not to startle her further.
Her wolf is bigger and slender compared to the she wolves, I have seen in my entire life. But she is smaller compared to my wolf, I’m twice her size. She has this silky white fur and deep green eyes she is a marvel indeed. Recognition dawned in her eyes and she relaxed.
“Amara, what are you doing out here at this hour, alone?” I asked, keeping my voice gentle.
“I could ask you the same thing, Alpha Gray” she replied, her tone guarded, but confident.
I chuckled, she never falls short to amaze me with her confidence and bravery. She is an alpha born after all. “It’s not safe here around this hour. Plus due to the recent rogue attacks, I have appointed security guards for your safety. You know that right”
She took some time to reply and continued “I know that already. They were not willing to let me out at first. So I came with them here, they’re standing at the far end of the lake, giving me privacy” she pointed me towards the far end.
I looked carefully and spotted 2 of my pack members in their wolf form. Using my mind link, I called them over.
“Alpha, we apologise for bringing her here at this hour. We tried to stop her. She insisted that she needs fresh air to clear her head and we should join her if we can’t let her go alone” one of them says, without lifting his head.
I sighed, understanding their predicament. “It’s alright. Go back to your post near her house. I’ll bring her back myself. And don’t let this happen again”
“Yes, Alpha” they responded, bowing before they left.
Now alone, Amara and I sat near the lake, the night air cool and refreshing. I couldn’t help but marvel at her beauty. “Look at her. She’s so beautiful. My gorgeous mate” Aiden purrs.
“My wolf’s name is Aiden. He says that you’re beautiful” I tell her.
She looks at me with suspicion, “Thanks, Aiden. You’re handsome too. This is Eva, my wolf” she replied, her eyes returning to the starlit sky.
“I haven’t shifted in weeks so my wolf was agitated. I had to let her out. It wasn’t my intent to force the guards. I hope you understand” She says softly.
“It’s fine. I’ve been feeling restless too, with everything going on in the pack. I heard you took good care of our injured worriers. I appreciate your help” I say sincerely.
“No need to thank me Alpha Gray. It’s my job after all” she responded. It hurts my soul whenever she calls me as ‘Alpha Gray’ or ‘Alpha Zachary’.
Aiden has no care in the world, he is just looking at his mate, without even blinking.
“Amara, you can call me by my name you know. You don’t have to be so formal with me” I said.
“Why would I call you without your title. I don’t think we are friends or anything. So why pretend?“she says, fury back in her tone.
I let out a sigh. “Amara, There’s something I need to come clean with you. I’m really sorry for how I treated you 4 years back. I didn’t realise back then, how much I need you in my life. Please give me a chance to sort things between us. Can we start over?” I say with full sincerity.
She looks at me with a killer look. After a moment of silence, she asked “What are you even talking about. Where is Michelle, your mate? I didn’t see her at the pack house. You were so in love with her. I thought you might have marked her already”
Aiden growled, furious that she thought Michelle was our mate. I made her believe that long back. I cursed myself for the deception.
“She’s not my mate or luna. Why would she be here? She is not from my pack either” I said, my voice firm.
Amara looked at me, surprise flickering in her eyes. For a moment, we just sat there, the truth hanging between us. The tension was palpable, but suddenly she stood up with a huff.
“I don’t need this right now. I need to go home. I’m tired” she starts running leaving my awkward ass behind. I got up and sprinted behind Eva. I can’t let her go alone.
I watched as she went inside her house, without even sparing a glance at me. I asked the guards to watch over her and left for the pack house.
Once I reach my room, I took a cool shower and went to bed.
I didn’t expect the truth coming out this way. I couldn’t get to explain her my side of the story and the whole truth. But, I feel lighter somehow. Then sleep invaded me completely.
