His Hollywood Babygirl
Chapter 1
Chapter One
Kira Maddox
“I’m going to Europe,” Lila Merriman told me as she stood from her desk. Her office chair rolled back and thudded softly against the window behind her as she brushed a strand of her brown hair away from her face.
“Oh?” I asked, wondering so many things.
How long would she be gone? Does this impact my job as her personal assistant? All the stuff one in my position might want to know.
But I didn’t ask. I’d learned long ago that with Lila, it was best to just let her unfold things at her own pace.
That could be painstaking, though. Her pace often didn’t match what others—including me—found acceptable.
She didn’t say anything else, instead busying herself by scooping up documents from her desk and shoving them into a leather satchel that cost way more than I made in a month.
Or two. Or three.
Finally, I couldn’t hold out any longer. “How long will you be gone?”
“Forever.”
“Forever? You’re moving your base of operations to Europe?”
“Yep.”
She never looked up at me as she continued to gather her things.
Nothing abnormal here. Just what people do on a whim often—decide to pack up and move to a different continent. Who hasn’t done that a time or two in life?
“So, where are you going exactly?” I probed.
“I told you, Europe.”
“Europe is a big continent,” I pointed out.
This had her looking up at me with eyes that said I was the stupidest person in the world. “London? Where else could I be in Europe? It’s like, the biggest country there.”
At this point, I wanted to inform her London was a city. I also wanted to inform her it was, in fact, not even the biggest one in Europe. Moscow was bigger. So was Paris. But I felt nerdy for knowing that. Plus, it wouldn’t do any good to inform her of such. No one likes a know-it-all.
And even more than that, Lila Merriman did not like being corrected.
“So, you’re moving your headquarters to London?” I asked.
“Yeah.”
“What about?—”
“Oh, you’re fired.” She actually looked up, and for the briefest of moments I saw something that might have passed as sympathy flash through her eyes.
“Not because you’ve done a bad job. So, maybe I should say, you’re being laid off.
I’ll just hire some British person to be my assistant over there. ”
It was hard not losing control of my emotions.
This job had its share of challenges, sure, but for the most part, I enjoyed it.
Plus, I actually got to put my marketing skills to good use.
I’d helped Lila grow from a wannabe influencer making videos in her house to an international celebrity with endorsement deals and her own line of hair care products.
More stuff was coming, too. We’re talking makeup, clothing lines. Lots of stuff!
The potential of growing a brand from the ground up had been what drew me to the role, even though the pay wasn’t the best and the hours could be long and grueling.
“Don’t worry,” she said.
A little bit of hope started rising. Was she thinking about a severance package? She’d made millions this past year. And anything would go a long way in helping me get by until I found a new job.
“I’ll pay you through the end of the week,” she said.
And just like that, the hope vanished.
“There’s plenty for you to do even though I’m leaving first thing in the morning,” she added.
“The morning! Lila, don’t you want to think about?—”
She gave me a sharp look and waved off any suggestion I was about to make with a whirl of her hand.
“My mind is made up. Europe is the best thing for me right now. I’m going to keep my office here.
But I need a change of scenery. You know, I’ve been working so hard lately.
Plus, this will help me conquer the European markets. ”
There was so much wrong with what she’d just said.
First of all, I’d been working hard. Not her. Secondly, she needed to focus on her burgeoning brands in the United States before even thinking about the overseas market.
But you couldn’t tell her anything. And impulsivity wasn’t exactly new to her when it came to decision-making.
“Here, since you’re still on the clock through the rest of the week, I want you to take my dick phone.” She opened the drawer on her right, took out the device, and tossed it to me.
I barely caught it, fumbling it several times before gaining complete control of it.
“There are a bunch of guys I’ve been chatting with. Tell ‘em I’m gone. Don’t tell them who I am, though. I haven’t let any of them know I’m the Lila Merriman. But break things off with them, please.”
I looked down at the phone and then back up at her. “Your dick phone?”
“Yeah. I keep it separate from my business phone. You know? Like, when I want to chat with guys and get cock and stuff. Ooh, which reminds me, I’ve saved some of the dick pics I’ve been sent, if you want to flick the bean to any of them.”
Suddenly, I wanted to grab a disinfectant wipe and clean that phone off, but I managed to hold onto it.
“Look, don’t reveal too much. Just let them all know I won’t be around anymore.” A wistful smile spread across her plump, Botox-injected lips. “I’m going to find some hot British guy and we’re going to walk around the Louvre and shit like that.”
I cocked my head to one side. “So, you’re wanting him to take you to Paris?”
“What the fuck does Paris have to do with anything? I said I’m moving to London.”
I nodded. “Right.”
Again, it was best not to engage with that sort of nonsense.
“So, that’s it, huh? You’re just heading to London tomorrow? Have you bought your plane ticket?”
I knew my seemingly simple question might draw her ire, but she often relied on me for the most basic tasks, so it was a valid concern that she hadn’t even secured a fight.
Or a place to live once she landed. And so much more.
“Duh. I know what I’m doing.”
You’ve heard the old adage about if you can’t say anything nice, right? Well, it applied here, so I simply nodded.
“Well, I guess there’s nothing left to do then wish you well and get busy, uh, notifying everyone on the… dick phone.”
“Yeah. Just take it home with you, please. I would ghost them, but I feel bad. I was pretty far along with some of them and I might want to reconnect whenever I come back to the States for a visit. So, try to end things on good terms. Thanks.”
She went back to packing her desk’s contents, and I took that as my cue that the conversation was over.
This day was not going the way I’d planned.
This career wasn’t going the way I’d planned! Maybe she’d change her mind and stay. One never knew what the next day would bring when it came to Lila.
But something told me she had her mind set on Europe.
And that I was indeed out of a job.
