29~Just an ex #3

The ringtone exploded through the silent room.

Hanan's eyes flew open instantly.

Both of them froze.

She stared up at the unfamiliar face hovering over hers.

He stared back, completely caught.

Neither of them moved.

Then...

SMACK!

Her elbow slammed squarely into his jaw.

"Ahhh!"

Faruk rolled onto the bed, clutching his face.

Hanan scrambled backwards with a frightened scream.

"Who are you?!"

Heart pounding wildly, she grabbed the nearest thing she could find, her hair dryer and pointed it at him like a weapon.

The moment their eyes met properly...

She gasped. "Faruk?!"

"Yes..." He groaned, rubbing his aching jaw. "It's me."

"Oh my God..."

Her eyes widened with guilt.

"I'm so sorry!"

"Are you made of steel?" He groaned. "I think you broke my jaw... I even bit my tongue."

Despite the pain, he couldn't help smiling at the panicked expression on her face.

"I'm really sorry." She laughed nervously. "It's your fault. Why would you sneak up on someone who's sleeping? I thought a thief broke

in."

"Well... now I can't feel my jaw."

"I hurt you that badly?"

She frowned.

"I'll get some ice and ointment."

She turned to leave, but before she could take another step, Faruk caught her wrist gently.

"No."

He smiled before wrapping his arms around her.

"The only medicine I need..."

He tapped the side of his jaw.

"Is a little kiss right here."

"And maybe..." He added sheepishly.

"A hug."

He expected her to reject him immediately.

Instead...

She surprised him.

Standing on the tips of her toes, she gently pressed a soft kiss against his sore cheek.

Then she wrapped her arms around him.

For a second...

Faruk forgot how to breathe.

He simply stood there smiling like an idiot.

When she tried to pull away, he hugged her tighter.

"Thank you." He whispered.

"It's nothing." She smiled. "I'm only treating my patient."

"So..."

She tilted her head.

"Feeling better now?"

"Not yet."

He grinned mischievously.

"I think it'll take another hour."

"An hour?" She chuckled. "What kind of treatment is that? Let go."

"Just a few more minutes."

"One minute."

He pretended to think before smiling.

"Deal."

Wrapped in each other's embrace, they stood quietly for a while, enjoying the comfortable silence...

Until Hanan finally spoke.

"I met Najib today." She muttered.

The words barely left her lips before Faruk pulled away, searching her face.

"You did?" He asked quietly. "Why?"

"To find out the truth."

"That he's innocent?" His brows furrowed. "I saw the news earlier, but you don't actually believe all that... do you?"

She simply looked at him.

"Hanan..." He whispered. "You believe him?"

She nodded.

Faruk let out a short, disbelieving laugh.

"Wow... I honestly didn't think you would."

"The evidence he showed me proved he was innocent." She replied calmly.

"Believe me."

"I can't."

He shook his head.

"Maybe after tomorrow's court hearing I'll believe it, but right now... it's hard to accept that Najib is innocent."

"I know it is." She sighed. "But trust me. I was the victim. I hated him more than anyone else ever could. If I'm telling you he's innocent, then he is."

Faruk remained silent for a moment before asking quietly,

"So... you don't hate him anymore?"

She tilted her head. "Why are you asking?"

"I just want to know."

A teasing smile tugged at her lips.

"Don't tell me you're jealous."

Faruk didn't smile.

His expression remained serious.

"We're not even officially together yet." She laughed.

"Yes, I am jealous." He admitted without hesitating.

He stepped closer, gently pulling her into his arms.

"I don't want him anywhere near you."

His voice was low.

"Don't even think about him."

Hanan looked at him for a long second before sighing.

"Wait until we're officially a couple before making statements like this."

Faruk ignored her.

"You still haven't answered me."

She smiled softly. "No... I don't hate him anymore."

"And why not?"

"Because there's no major reason to."

She shrugged.

"Only psychopaths hate people without a good reason."

A faint smile appeared on Faruk's lips.

"Then you can call me a psychopath from now on."

She laughed.

"No. You're not."

She gently poked his chest.

"I know why you hate Najib, and your feelings are valid. Your father never gave you a reason to like him."

She paused before continuing.

"But forget all that."

"And forget him."

"Just like I already have."

She smiled warmly.

"Najib is my past."

"He's just my ex."

"My life with him ended the day we divorced."

Faruk searched her eyes.

"He's just an ex?" He asked quietly.

"You mean that?"

"Yes." She grinned.

"Y E S."

"Should I spell it out again?"

He laughed, finally relaxing.

"No."

He shook his head.

"That's enough."

A genuine smile spread across his face.

"You've just made me the happiest man alive."

"Oh wow. So lucky of you." She chuckled.
