42~A psycho lover #2

Behind Abdul were two police patrol vehicles, their flashing lights painting the night in shades of blue and red.

The sirens wailed relentlessly.

"They just don't know when to give up." Faruk muttered.

He opened the glove compartment.

Hanan's eyes widened.

Inside lay a gun.

"W...what are you doing?" She whispered, terror flooding her face.

Faruk calmly picked it up.

"What does it look like?"

He smiled without looking at her.

"I'm getting rid of anyone trying to take you away from me."

Before Hanan could react...

BANG!

The gunshot echoed across the highway.

Another.

BANG!

He fired toward Abdul's car.

Hanan screamed, covering both ears.

Tears streamed down her face as her entire body trembled violently.

"Please stop!"

She sobbed.

"Please! My brother hasn't done anything to you!"

Another shot rang out.

She couldn't bear it anymore.

"Faruk!"

"I'll marry you!"

She cried out.

"I swear I will!"

"I'll do whatever you want!"

"Just please..."

She folded her shaking hands.

"Please stop shooting."

Faruk slowly lowered the gun.

A satisfied smile spread across his face.

"So... You've finally come to your senses."

He tossed the gun onto the passenger seat.

"That's my girl."

The car continued speeding through the nearly empty highway.

Despite everything... Abdul refused to back down.

Neither did the police.

Hanan closed her eyes tightly.

Ya Allah...

Please... Save me.

Please don't let anyone die because of me.

She kept whispering prayers through trembling lips.

Moments later...

Faruk suddenly cursed.

"They're still behind us?"

He pressed harder on the accelerator.

The engine roared.

For several minutes the chase continued.

Eventually...

The flashing lights disappeared from the mirror.

Hanan slowly turned.

Nothing.

No Abdul.

No police.

Only darkness.

Fresh tears blurred her vision.

Is this really how it ends?

She thought.

Will I spend the rest of my life with someone who terrifies me?

Najib... She squeezed her eyes shut.

I'm glad you're far away.

At least he can't hurt you.

Just as despair settled into her heart...

The distant sound of sirens returned.

Louder.

Closer.

Faruk looked into the mirror. "Damn it."

Police vehicles surrounded them from both directions.

Abdul's car blocked the road ahead.

Faruk slammed the brakes.

Without hesitation, he grabbed his gun again and climbed out.

He fired wildly.

The officers immediately took cover behind their vehicles.

Several bullets struck police cars.

Within seconds...

The gun was empty.

His eyes darkened.

He yanked open the back door.

Grabbing Hanan, he dragged her out of the car.

He locked one arm tightly around her neck while pressing the empty gun against her head.

"Nobody move!"

His voice echoed across the bridge.

"One more step... And I'll blast her brain and mine, I will kill her and kill myself because I have nothing to lose as long as we die together."

The officers froze.

Abdul's heart pounded.

"Faruk!"

"Let her go!"

Faruk laughed bitterly. "You care this much? She isn't even your biological sister, so shut up!"

He continued walking toward the edge of the bridge.

Only then did Hanan notice where they were.

The Lekki Ikoyi Bridge.

Beneath them stretched an endless dark water.

Her legs nearly gave way.

"Faruk..."

She whispered.

"Please. Let's end this."

He smiled. "I intend to."

He pointed the gun toward Abdul.

"Should I shoot you first... or her?"

"I dare you." Abdul stepped forward.

"Shoot!"

Faruk laughed. "You figured it out already, didn't you?"

He held up the gun.

"It has no bullets left."

He threw it into the water below.

Then he climbed onto the bridge railing, dragging Hanan with him.

Gasps erupted from every direction.

Police officers slowly surrounded them.

"Don't!"

Abdul shouted desperately.

"Faruk!"

"Please!"

Faruk smiled peacefully.

"If I can't have her... No one will."

He looked at Hanan.

"Say goodbye."

The officers lunged.

At that exact moment...

Faruk shoved her over the bridge.

Then jumped after her.

Screams erupted across the bridge.

Traffic came to a complete stop.

People rushed out of their vehicles watching.

Some recorded the horrifying scene.

Others stood frozen in shock.

Abdul dropped to his knees.

"No..."

His voice broke.

"No..."

Police officers immediately called the marine rescue unit.

Abdul couldn't hear them anymore.

His mind had already gone numb.

How was he supposed to tell Najib?

How?

"Help!"

Everyone looked up.

"I'M HERE!"

Abdul's head snapped toward the bridge railing.

"Hanan?!"

She was dangling from the outer side of the bridge.

Both hands clung desperately to a metal support beneath the railing.

Below her...

The dark water crashed violently.

Her arms shook uncontrollably as fear gripped her, since her bad experiences at the beach, she has developed a severe phobia for massive water.

"I can't hold on!"

She cried.

"Please! Help me out."

Abdul sprinted toward her.

Her life depending on how long her trembling hands can hold onto the railings.

Firmly, one police officer held Abdul by the waist while two others stretched themselves over the railing.

"Hold on!"

"We've got you!"

Moments later...

Several hands grabbed her wrists.

With one final pull...

She was pulled out, she collapsed onto the bridge.

The moment Abdul saw her properly, he dropped beside her and hugged her tightly.

Both of them broke down completely.

"Alhamdulillah..."

He whispered over and over.

Hanan sobbed into his chest.

"I thought... I thought I was going to die."

Between sobs, she began explaining.

"The moment he climbed onto the railing... I knew what he wanted to do, so I studied the bridge quickly..."

"And when he pushed me over... I quickly grabbed the bridge support before I fell."

"He never noticed as he jumped straight into the water."

Abdul hugged her even tighter. "You scared me to death."

Several minutes passed before they finally let go of each other.

Then...

Through the crowd...

A familiar voice called out.

"Habiba?!"

Hanan turned instantly.

Her tear filled eyes widened.

Najib came running toward her, with Nanny Ann close behind.

"Najib?!" Hanan cried out.

The moment she saw him, she broke free from Nanny Ann and ran straight into his arms.

She clung to him desperately, sobbing against his chest.

"He... he tried to kill me." Her voice shook uncontrollably. "He wanted us dead."

Najib wrapped both arms around her protectively, holding her as though he feared she would be in harms way again.

"I'm here now, Habibti." His voice was barely above a whisper.

"I'm sorry..."

He cupped her tear stained face, gently wiping away her tears with his thumbs.

"I'm sorry I came too late."

She shook her head repeatedly, unable to stop crying.

He kissed her forehead before reluctantly guiding her toward Nanny Ann.

"Please take her home."

Nanny Ann nodded through her tears and immediately pulled Hanan into another comforting embrace.

Najib then turned to Abdul.

His face hardened.

"Where is Faruk?"

Abdul slowly pointed toward the dark water beneath the bridge.

"He jumped."

Najib stared over the railing for a brief second.

His jaw clenched.

"He doesn't get to disappear after everything he's done."

Without another word, he removed his watch, shoved his phone and wallet into Abdul's hands, and climbed onto the railing.

"Najib, wait!" Abdul yelled.

Before anyone could stop him...

He dove into the water.

Gasps echoed across the bridge.

"Najib?!"

Hanan's scream pierced through the night.

She struggled violently against Nanny Ann's grip.

"Najib!"

"Please come back!"

She fought desperately to run toward the railing, but Nanny Ann held her tightly.

"No, Hanan!"

"You can't!"

"The water is too deep!"

But Hanan couldn't hear a word.

Her eyes remained fixed on the dark water where Najib had disappeared.

"Najib..."

She whispered weakly.

The world around her suddenly began to spin.

The voices faded.

The lights blurred.

Her knees gave way beneath her.

She collapsed unconscious in Nanny Ann's arms.
