Chapter 11 #2

"I looked at myself, and I looked at you," Akhil whispered with infinite tenderness. "And I thought... 'How could I pull her into my dark, dangerous world? How could I break my best friend's trust? How could I take away her youth and freedom before she even got a chance to live?'"

Shruti shook her head, tears streaming freely down her face as she placed her small hand over his broad palm against her cheek. "Akhil..."

"So I made a choice," Akhil whispered, his dark eyes gleaming with raw, selfless devotion.

"I decided that the ultimate act of love was to protect you from myself.

I swore to Raghav, and to God, that I would guard you, support your career from the shadows, keep every danger away from you, and never...

ever cross the line into taking you for myself. "

Shruti looked at him, at this powerful, formidable billionaire who had carried such a heavy, agonizing burden of silent love for eight long years just to keep her safe and protect his best friend's trust.

"Do you have any idea," Akhil murmured, his voice cracking slightly with emotion, "how torturous it was?

Watching you grow into a breathtaking, independent woman?

Listening to you talk about your travels?

Seeing other men try to talk to you at parties while I had to stand in the corner, pretending I only cared about you as a little sister? "

"Akhil..." Shruti sobbed, her heart aching with a love so massive it felt as if her chest would burst.

"I tried to stay away, Shorty," Akhil admitted rawly, leaning his forehead gently against her knees.

"I flew to Europe, I buried myself in work, I built that villa on Lake Como just so I could have a piece of your dream with me...

but every single path I took brought me right back to you.

And when Reyansh Khanna threatened your life in Mumbai...

I realized that I would burn down the entire world before I let anyone hurt a single hair on your head. "

Silence descended upon the boat cabin, broken only by the soft patter of rain against the roof and the sound of their synchronized breathing.

Shruti looked down at the dark, messy head of the man kneeling before her.

She didn't hesitate for a single second.

Shruti slid off the leather sofa, dropping down onto her knees directly in front of him on the floor, bringing their faces to exact eye level.

She reached out both of her hands, gently, firmly cupping Akhil’s broad, stubbled jawline, forcing his dark eyes to look directly into hers.

"Now you listen to me, Akhil Raheja," Shruti declared, her voice ringing with a fierce, unwavering, breathtaking conviction that made his heart stop. "You are an absolute idiot."

Akhil blinked in surprise, a faint, stunned look crossing his handsome face. "Shruti?"

"You spent eight years deciding what was best for me!" Shruti scolded him softly, tears sparkling in her dark eyes like stars, though a glorious, radiant smile broke across her lips. "You decided I was too pure, you decided your world was too dark, and you decided I needed protection from you!"

She leaned in closer, her warm breath brushing against his lips.

"Did you ever once stop to ask me what 'I' wanted, Mr. Dictator?

" Shruti whispered fiercely. "Did you ever stop to think that I didn't want a safe, boring, ordinary life without you?

Did you ever stop to think that I chose you eight years ago in that garden gazebo, and that no other man in the entire world could ever compare to you? !"

Akhil’s dark eyes flared with an intense, blinding shock. His broad chest rose and fell with a heavy, ragged gasp. "Shruti... what are you saying?"

"I am saying," Shruti declared, her dark eyes locking onto his with pure, unadulterated love, "that I don't care about your eight-year age gap.

I don't care about corporate wars or dangerous rivals.

And I don't care about your stupid rules.

I love you, Akhil Raheja. I have loved you since I was nineteen years old, and I will love you until my very last breath. "

The world around them completely exploded into dust.

All eight years of restraint, all the hidden longing, all the solemn promises, all the painful distance, everything vanished in a single, magnificent second.

Akhil let out a raw, low growl from the depths of his chest, a sound of pure, unadulterated surrender.

He reached out his broad, powerful hands, wrapping one hand securely around her slender waist while the other cupped the back of her head, sliding his long fingers into her dark, fragrant hair.

He pulled her body flush against his broad chest, and brought his lips down onto hers in a passionate, breathtaking, long-awaited kiss.

'BOOM!'

Outside the water taxi, thunder rumbled across the Venetian lagoon, and the rain poured down in a heavy, dramatic torrent.

Inside the cabin, time stopped completely.

Their first kiss was everything eight years of hidden love should have been, intense, fierce, sweet, and wildly passionate.

Akhil kissed her with the raw, possessive hunger of a starving man who had finally been given a taste of paradise.

His lips moved over hers with a deep, authoritative demand that made Shruti’s head spin with pure intoxication.

He tasted of warm brandy, fresh sea air, and the intoxicating, familiar scent of sandalwood that had haunted her dreams for nearly a decade.

Shruti let out a soft, helpless gasp against his lips, throwing her arms tightly around his neck, burying her fingers into his dark, thick hair, pulling his head closer, giving herself completely to the sensation of his touch.

Akhil groaned softly into her mouth, his grip on her waist tightening until there wasn't a single millimeter of space between their bodies.

He deepened the kiss, his tongue brushing against hers, exploring the sweetness of her mouth with a fierce, consuming devotion that claimed her soul once and for all.

Every touch was fire. Every breath was magic.

The fear of Reyansh Khanna, the danger of Victor Romano, the worries about Raghav, everything dissolved into the sweet, intoxicating storm of their shared passion.

When they finally broke the kiss for air several breathless minutes later, neither of them moved away.

Akhil rested his forehead gently against hers, his hands holding her waist firmly, his dark eyes open, staring into hers with an intensity that burned hotter than the sun. His breathing was coming in deep, heavy rasps, his heart hammering violently against his ribs.

"Shruti..." Akhil whispered, his deep voice thick, rough, and vibrating with an emotion so profound it made his entire frame tremble. "You are going to be the death of me."

Shruti let out a soft, radiant laugh, her dark eyes sparkling through her tears as she rested her hands softly against his broad, warm chest, feeling his wild pulse beneath her fingers.

"Then we'll die together, Mr. Raheja," Shruti murmured softly, leaning up to brush a sweet, lingering kiss against his jawline. "Because I am never letting you go again."

Akhil smiled, a rare, breathtaking, genuine smile of pure, unadulterated happiness that transformed his handsome face into something divine.

He wrapped his arms tightly around her, lifting her body up onto his lap as he sat back on the leather bench, holding her close against his heart while the rain poured softly over the dark Venetian water outside.

For the first time in eight long years, they were no longer a billionaire protector and his best friend's little sister.

They were two souls finally united in the storm, bound together by a love so fierce, so reckless, and so permanent that no force on earth could ever tear them apart.
