Chapter 6 The Class Re

Everyone's eyes turned to the door at once.

They were all surprised to see who it was.

I was surprised too. I hadn't expected He Yanzhou to come.

It had been many years. He looked even more steady and confident now.

He Yanzhou nodded slightly. "Sorry I'm late."

Everyone recovered from their shock and immediately began greeting him warmly.

His gaze slowly swept over the crowd and finally landed on me.

"Long time no see."

I nodded slightly at him.

After he sat down, he said to everyone.

"Enjoy yourselves. Tonight's bill is on me."

The private room erupted in cheers.

He Yanzhou looked at me. His eyes fell on the wedding ring on my finger. His expression grew dazed.

In the end he smiled and raised his red wine to me, downing it in one gulp. A complex emotion flickered across his face.

The gathering ended close to midnight.

After everyone left one by one, He Yanzhou suddenly stopped me.

"It's so late. Let me send you home."

"No need. I'll take a taxi."

A trace of disappointment flashed in his eyes. After a moment of silence he spoke again.

"Is he... good to you?"

The image of Jiang Yu in an apron asking which dish tasted good suddenly flashed in my mind.

The corners of my mouth lifted.

"Of course."

When I saw the familiar figure standing outside, my smile grew wider.

"My husband came to pick me up."

Jiang Yu was looking at me with a gloomy face.

The streetlight stretched his shadow long. He looked lonely and dejected.

I didn't know how long he had been waiting.

When he noticed me looking, his eyes flickered. He quickly walked over.

He Yanzhou looked surprised.

"He's your husband?"

"How do you two know each other?"

He Yanzhou nodded.

"Sort of. Two projects with him fell through. No matter what conditions I offered, he wouldn't budge."

I frowned.

That didn't sound like Jiang Yu.

Before I could ask, Jiang Yu had already reached me.

He didn't greet He Yanzhou or say a word. He simply grabbed my hand and pulled me away.

Up close I saw his eyes were red.

His expression looked fragile and pitiful, as if he would break if I didn't follow.

I thought it was from waiting too long in the wind.

I didn't think much of it and teased him on purpose.

"Hey, didn't you say you weren't coming home tonight?

Talking business and staying out all night. One might think you were keeping a mistress outside!"

Jiang Yu's steps halted. He lowered his head.

"I don't."

His hoarse voice carried a sob.

He Yanzhou stood quietly, watching us leave.
