Chapter Twenty-Four
Nixie
As soon as I feel the tears fall from Calvin’s eyes, all my pent up aggression toward him for keeping me out of the loop disappears.
“Hey, hey. It’s okay. I’m not going anywhere,” I reassure him as I hold him in my arms whilst we are on the floor. He moves himself so his head is now in my lap. I run my fingers through his hair hoping it will calm him down.
“Talk to me, Cal,” I ask him again as I continue to stroke his hair.
He takes some deep breaths before he finally speaks. “I met her,” he mumbles into my lap.
“Met who? Oh. Her.” I feel like every last breath has been knocked out of me.
“I was having a meeting with Cormac, and he blindsided me into meeting her,” he continues. “I didn’t want to tell you about the meeting because I don’t want you to worry. We have a plan. I just don’t know when it’s all going down.”
“But you keeping me out of what’s going on is also worrying me,” I tell him.
“I know, and I’m so sorry, darlin’,” he says as he sits up and moves in front of me.
His brown eyes captivate me just like they did from the very first time I saw them. Although all I can see now is the sadness behind them.
“You need a shave.” I tug on his beard that is getting a little too long, hoping to change the topic.
“You don’t like my beard?” he asks, a spark returning to his eyes.
“Oh, no, I do. I just don’t like it too long.” I smile at him.
He stands up holding his hand out for me to grab.
“Come,” he demands as he pulls me from the floor, walking us into the bathroom.
“Wait here,” he instructs as he walks out, leaving me standing alone in front of the mirror. I take in my reflection, the flushed cheeks from the wine me and Darcy was drinking, the sad eyes from the events of the night. My curves look too curvy, if that even makes sense. My thoughts start to run into that deep space in my brain, making me question what he sees in me. He could have any girl in the world, and he chose me. The fucked up, book-loving girl who works in a library and isn’t as skinny as the girls he is used to.
“The most beautiful girl I have ever seen.” I blush at Calvin’s voice that came from behind me. I was so lost in my own thoughts that I didn’t even see him come back in. He stands behind me with a chair in his hands.
“What’s with the chair?” I ask him, staring at his reflection.
He smirks. “You’re going to shave me.”
“Oh, no. No, I’m not,” I nervously laugh at him.
“Yup,” is all he says back to me as he places the chair on the floor and gets out his shaver, plugging it all in for me before sitting down in the chair and holding it out for me.
“I happen to like your face, so I don’t think me shaving it after some glasses of wine is going to do it any good.”
“Nice to know you like my face.” He smirks at me, which only makes me roll my eyes at him. “Now come and do your worst, darlin’.”
I stand at the side of him with a puzzled look etched onto my face. Is he serious? He actually wants me to shave his face. His beautiful face. His eyes meet mine and he has that annoying but pantie dropping smirk on his face.
“Let’s go, darlin’.”
The shaver sits in my now clammy hands. I turn it on and the buzz of it fills the bathroom.
“Last chance to back out, Cal.” I eye him, hoping he will. But he doesn’t take the bait. Damn it.
“Don’t worry so much. It’s already set to take off the right amount of length,” he says, trying to reassure me.
“You mean I don’t get to see a clean face?” I smirk at him.
“Nope. No one wants to see a baby face Calvin. Trust me.” He is all serious now.
I mean, he has got a point. I can’t imagine seeing him without a beard. With that thought, I place the shaver to his longish beard.
“Wait.”
“Oh, thank god.” I let out a breath, switching the shaver off.
Before I can say anything else, Calvin puts his arms around my legs and lifts me onto him, so I’m now sitting on his lap with the shaver in my hand.
“That’s better. You’ll be able to have more control.” He smirks at me. Asshole.
I wriggle slightly to get a little more comfy before I start the shaver again. I hear Calvin hiss as I move on his cock that is starting to harden beneath me.
The next ten minutes are the longest ten minutes of my life, and I’m pretty sure I don’t breathe whilst I move the shaver around his cheeks, chin and next, cutting it back so it’s just stubble to his face. I’ve felt him get harder and harder with each passing minute, his hands working their way to my ass, and he’s had a death grip on it ever since.
“There. All done,” I announce as I turn the shaver off.
“Thank fuck for that,” he mumbles. “Now, I need to fuck you.”
“Oh, so gentleman-like,” I tease him.
“Only the best for you,” he teases back before we both crash our lips together and I let out a moan that has been building up.
His hands go under my ass as he stands from the chair and stands with me in his arms, the hair from his now cut back beard falling all around us making a mess everywhere.
Calvin walks us back to the bed and without a warning he throws me down. Definitely not a gentleman.
“What now?” I smirk.
“Now I’m going to feast on my wet pussy until you beg for me to stop. And then after I’m done with my meal, I’m going to fuck you so hard, that every step you take tomorrow will remind you of me,” he says firmly as he rips my leggings and panties off in one.
He kneels on the floor at the bottom of the bed and pulls my legs down, so I’m lined up straight at his face. I can feel his warmth breath on me, sending shivers all over my body.
“Perfect. Absolutely perfect,” he says as his mouth finds my throbbing clit.
That’s the last thing I remember before waking up the next morning with his arms wrapped around me, keeping me from escaping. It would be silly of me to abandon such a warm place right now, so I snuggle with him some more and drift back to sleep.
The sound of a message coming through wakes me up, only to find I’m now alone and cold in bed. Picking my phone up from the bedside table, a message from Darcy sits on the screen, reminding me about us going to do some shopping today.
I’m yet to tell Calvin about that, and I already know what his response is going to be.
After a long shower and getting ready, I made my way down the stairs in search of Calvin.
“You look beautiful, Darlin’,” he announces as soon as I walk into the kitchen.
Me? Has he looked in the mirror? It should be illegal for him to look this good in casual clothes. He stands at the oven wearing a plain black tee and gray joggers that show off every delicious detail to him. He stops what he’s doing and turns to me.
“See something you like?” he taunts.
“Yes,” I answer immediately.
“Oh yeah? What’s that then?” He smirks, like he knows what I’m about to say.
“This cup of tea, of course.” I smirk at him as I walk to the counter and pick up the hot cup and take a sip. Perfect, like always.
He chuckles and goes back to the oven as I take a seat on one of the chairs around the worktop.
Just watching him be so domestic has me turned on.
“For you,” he says as he places a plate down in front of me that has pancakes, bacon and a bowl of fruit at the side.
“Is it safe to eat?” I tease him as I dig into it and take a bite whilst he watches every move
“You tell me, is it safe, darlin’?” His eyes question me.
“Is there anything you can’t do?” I ask after I swallow the mouthful, letting the flavors explore in my mouth. It’s so good!
He makes up a plate for himself and sits down next to me. We eat quietly next to each other.
“So,” I clear my throat, “me and Darcy were talking last night, and she wants to do some shopping today, to help take her mind off everything that’s happened.”
I see his whole body tense up in the chair as my words come out.
“Okay.”
“Okay?” Not exactly how I thought that would go.
“Yeah, I will cancel my day. I’m sure my brother and the guys will be okay going over things without me, so I can come with, so I know you will be safe,” he says firmly.
“Cal, it’s fine. We will be fine,” I say, trying to reassure him.
“How do you know that?” He looks at me all serious.
“I-erm,” I stutter.
“Exactly. I’m not taking any chances with you. I need you to be safe. I need to keep you safe Darlin” he says as his eyes stare into mine, I can see the plea in them.
“Okay. If that will make you feel better, then okay,” I reassure him.
“Thank you,” he says as he smirks. “I may just reward such good behavior later on.” He winks as he gets up from the chair and removes our now empty plates and mugs.
Leaving me sitting in the chair with my jaw open at his words, I watch as he smirks at me and walks out the kitchen. I hear him faintly on the phone to what I’m assuming will be his brother.
After I pulled myself together, I go upstairs to tell Darcy the plan for today. I pause in front of the bedroom door, at the sounds of mumbled voices coming from behind it.
“Darcy?” I ask as I knock on the door. The muffled voices stop and she opens the door.
“Nix, I was just getting ready to come find you,” she says, smiling at me with a little flush going on her cheeks.
?“Okay. Well I spoke to Cal about going shopping and he’s coming with us, just for peace of mind for him.” I shrug my shoulders at her.
I notice the smile on Darcy’s face slip a little bit.
“Is everything okay?” I ask as I enter her room, closing the door behind me but not all the way,
“Yeah. It’s fine.” She shrugs herself off. “I just thought it would be a girly day for us, that’s all,” she pouts. Why is she acting the way she is? For one, she knows I hate shopping, and two, given the situation as to why she is even staying with us, you would think she would be grateful, having someone to keep us safe, because we don’t know what’s going on with the threats that we have received.
Before I can reply back to her, there’s a knock on the door.
“Sorry to interrupt, ladies,” Calvin announces as he walks in the room. “I’m sorry, darlin’, but Reid needs me there today.” I glance over to Darcy and see her eyes light up at what he just said. Again, strange. I narrow my eyes at her before turning back to Calvin.
“Oh. Okay, I’m sure we will be fine,” I smile at him.
“Yeah, no. You girls are going to have the lovely Maddox with you.” Calvin grins at me and I roll my eyes.
“If I can’t be there to protect you, darlin’, then I know Maddox is the next best thing,” he says as he leans into my ear.
I glance again towards Darcy, trying my best to ignore the shivers running through my body, and see her eyes are full of frustration again.
“Oh, great,” Darcy says as she rolls her eyes.
“Something wrong?” Calvin asks, looking irritated at her.
“He just. Urghhh. He’s so frustrating,” Darcy whines.
“Trust me. He said the exact same thing about you, Darcy,” Calvin replies with a bored tone to his voice.
Darcy huffs and walks out of the room, mumbling to herself as she goes past.
“Is she okay?” Calvin asks me.
“Honestly? I have no idea. Something is bugging her, but then again, things haven’t been normal for her recently, have they? So I’m trying to give her the benefit of the doubt,” I say as my head rests on his chest.
Calvin just keeps me in his embrace until the front door chimes throughout the house.
“Time for some shopping, ladies,” Maddox’s voice shouts through the house. Calvin lets out a small chuckle.
“Come on, let’s go before he gets himself in trouble.” We barely even make it out of the room before we hear the commotion downstairs.
“Oh my god. You are so annoying!” Darcy raises her voice at Maddox, making me and Calvin laugh as we make our way to the noise of them both.
“Oh my god, you’re so annoying,” Maddox mimics her voice.
“Nixie, you better hurry up before I commit my first murder,” she shouts.
“Oh, baby, don’t tease me with a good time,” Maddox replies. I catch him winking at her as we walk in the living room where they are standing on opposite sides of the room.
“Thank god.” Darcy comes over and stands by me. “Do we really have to take him?” She looks at Calvin. “Why can’t we have the nicer one?”
“Darcy, baby, I can be nice if you want me to be.” He walks toward us. “All you gotta do is ask.” He winks and stands near Cal.
“Dude, stop winding her up.” Calvin rolls his eyes and laughs.
Maddox just stands there with a smirk across his face whilst staring at Darcy.
She makes eye contact for a split second with him before quickly looking at me, but not before I see that same flush start to seep into her cheeks. Got you. I smile at her.
“Don’t,” she snaps at me.
“Don’t what?” I bat my eyelids at her.
She rolls her eyes at me and I laugh.
“Let’s go then, shall we?” Maddox says as he points over his shoulder and starts walking to the front door. Darcy rolls her eyes and starts to follow him.
“Are they?” Cal asks.
“I have no idea. Maybe. Or maybe just a bit of flirting going on,” I laugh.
Maddox and Darcy are already in the car waiting as I get to the door with Cal behind me. We can already hear them having a heated discussion. Today is going to be so much fun.
Calvin stops me. “Here,” he says as he places a black Amex card in my hands.
“I don’t need your money, Cal,” I say as I try to hand the card back to him.
“I know. But I can’t be there to spend money on you, so I’m going to have to settle on this for now,” he says, pushing the card back to me.
I just stare at him, speechless.
“I love you, darlin’.” He smirks. “Go have some fun.”
I stumble towards the car and reach for the handle.
“Oh, one more thing,” Calvin says, stopping me in my tracks. “I want to see a reasonable dent in my bank account.” He winks as he walks back in the house, leaving me absolutely dumbfounded.
What the hell am I supposed to buy that will make a dent in his account?
