Chapter 20
Chapter Twenty
RED
Returning home was a relief. Red wasn’t sure what Kit would make of it as his apartment was tiny compared to the clubhouse, but Kit just seemed grateful to be somewhere that wasn’t connected with his brother.
Ronan dropped them outside with a smile and a reminder. “You owe me a red velvet cake.”
“Done,” Red agreed.
“And we’re going for a workout,” Kit said.
“I’ll call you next week…if that’s okay with your Daddy.”
Red rolled his eyes. “Like I’m going to say no. Go away.”
He shut the door of the SUV on Ronan’s laugh. Picking up their bags, he herded Kit through the front door and up the stairs.
“I’m not a sheep,” Kit muttered.
Red decided to ignore that. He opened the front door and stepped back to let Kit in first.
“You have a guitar.”
Kit sounded amused and Red had no idea why.
“Yeah, more than one.” Red used his guitars as decoration on the walls. “I’ve played since I was a kid.”
“I was right.”
“About what?” Red was confused.
“It doesn’t matter.”
Kit’s face crumpled. He reached out for Red who dropped the bags and hauled him into his arms.
“What do I do with my life?” Kit sobbed against his chest. “I have nothing. No home, no job, no family.”
Red kissed the top of his head. “You have a home right here with me. The Evergreen Wolves want to rebuild and would love you to be involved. You’re part of the Biker Daddy Bodyguards family now. And you have me. Your Daddy and your love.”
“Are you sure you want me to stay? You never wanted another boy.”
“I was wrong,” Red admitted. “I held back from finding love again.”
“You were waiting for me.”
Red chuckled softly. “Maybe I was.”
Kit laughed through his tears. “That's impossible.”
“Is it?” Red asked. “Because the moment I saw you at the club, everything that felt settled suddenly felt unfinished.” He took Kit's hand and pressed a kiss to his knuckles.
“I don't know exactly what our future looks like. I could help you rebuild the Wolves. I could teach you to bake cakes and you could show me how to make breakfast.”
Kit smiled. “Or we could drive each other crazy.”
"We could,” Red agreed. “But whatever happens, I want you beside me for all of it.”
“You mean that?” Kit’s voice trembled with unspoken emotion. “What if they take all my money. I’ll have nothing.”
This was a possibility. Red was going to make sure Kit saw a financial advisor as soon as possible. They had no idea if Kit was liable for Tony’s debts. He’d ask Quinn or Craig if they had any recommendations.
“I don’t care if you don’t have a cent, my sweet boy. We can rebuild together.”
Kit's breath caught and tears spilled onto his cheeks.
“All those years, I thought my story was over,” Red continued.
“Then you walked into my life and reminded me that my heart still knew how to hope.
You aren't filling a space someone else left behind. You're something entirely new, you’re my boy. I never expected you and, Kit Monroe, I never want to lose you.”
“Really?” Kit’s expression was so full of desperate hope it was almost painful.
“Really.” Red tipped his chin up and kissed him slowly. “As far as I'm concerned, you're home forever.”
