Chapter 19

(He’s Mine/Mokenstef)

“He’s mine. You might’ve had him once but I got him all the time.”

“You’s a dirty bitch. I should’ve just let that hoe ass nigga have your nasty ass!”

“Yeah, hoe, I see you aint answering that phone. Answer and talk to me like a real woman.”

“So, it’s like that? Where the love at?”

“Raven, if it’s over just let a nigga know.”

“A’ight so since you don’t want to fuck with a nigga, come and get you and those bad ass kids’ shit. I’m glad you and they spoil asses decided to go elsewhere.”

“You dirty ass bitch you. Bring tha Navigator here too. Bitch you and that nigga won’t ride around in shit I paid for.”

“Bitch come get this shit before I burn it!”

“Alright Raven, so you want to play games? Bitch I got you. Let’s see what your kids gon do without a mama, bitch!”

“You think that you got it going on, huh? Bitch we’ll see.” a female voice said on the last message.

I sat and listened to my voicemail. My day wasn’t going right unless someone was pissed at me.

I expected for Khalil to be upset but who the hell was that broad?

Maybe she was some chick that Khalil got to call me.

I didn’t know and really didn’t give a damn.

Who the hell did Khalil think he was? He was actually threatening me.

Usually, when he lashed out I would let it ride, but that time was different.

He’d threatened to take away my life, so I let Jahrein listen to the messages.

“I’ma go over there.” he announced, highly pissed.

“No, Jahrein. I told you about this so that you could hear his ass threaten me. Now you know what’s up. If anything I’m going to call the police on his ass if he don’t stop calling me. I don’t want you to make shit worse.”

“No, this nigga taking me for a joke. You just can’t threaten somebody’s wife and get away with it. He got me fucked up!” Jahrein seethed. He was so pissed that he couldn’t stop pacing the floor.

“Jahrein, just chill out. I aint worried about that nigga. I’ll just leave the shit I have over there and take it as a loss.”

“Man, it aint even about that shit. Y’all got plenty of shit here and whatever aint here I can replace.

Besides, I don’t want my kids with anything that nigga paid for any damn way.

He’s talking crazy when he was in the wrong from jump.

We from the same hood and he knew that it wasn’t gone roll over nicely.

Of all the broads to get with, his ass is chasing after the next nigga’s wife.

His ass is old enough to know better than that.

And if he didn’t get chose it just comes with the territory.

He been in the game for too long to do shit like this. Some niggas have died for less.”

“Okay, well Jahrein, I’m asking you as your wife to leave it alone.” I looked into his eyes. “Can you leave it alone for me?”

“I’ll try but if the nigga keep calling its gon get real ugly.” he seethed.

I kind of felt stupid because I was partially responsible for the situation.

I should have taken Ray-Ray’s advice about keeping outsiders out of the mix, until I decided what I wanted to do with Jahrein.

Even though I often reminded Khalil that I didn’t want a commitment I continued to deal with him, therefore giving him hope. So, I unintentionally led him on.

I didn’t condom Khalil’s behavior, but I felt that I had brought some of it on. I wanted me and my family to move on peacefully. We had so many things that were much more important to deal with.

I wanted to help calm Jahrein down so I convinced him to lay down with me. Just the fact that he was next to me had put me at ease. I hadn’t been myself while apart from him. I placed my head on his chest as he stroked my hair softly. He then placed a soft kiss on my forehead.

“I love you.” he whispered. “And I would die before I let anything happen to you.”

I simply nodded because I knew that he meant that wholeheartedly. The sound of the rain and thunder outside of our home gave off a serene feel, so soon after we were fast asleep.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

My eyes flew open when I heard glass shattering.

“Jahrein, you heard that?”

“Huh?” he asked groggily.

“Did you hear that glass breaking?” I asked him.

“No. What did it sound like?”

“I don’t know. It came from down stairs. Maybe even outside.”

“Fuck!” he said as he hopped out of bed. “I left my truck out in the front of the house.” he remembered as he left our bedroom.

I decided to follow him to see what was going on. The noise I heard did indeed come from outside. Someone had spray painted his Escalade in red. YOU AND YOUR BITCH GOT Y’ALL DAY COMING was in huge red letters. Along with that both the driver’s and the back window was busted out.

I could damn near see steam rising from Jah’s head as he checked out his truck. I was trying to see if I could find any bystanders that may have seen something. My neighbors were standing around looking at Jah’s vandalized truck.

I walked over to the white couple. “Excuse me; did you guys happen to see who did this?” I asked them as I pointed at the truck.

“Yes, actually I wrote down the license plate number.” the skinny white woman said as she handed me a sheet of paper. “A woman with a bat and spray can was the culprit.”

“Oh really? Well, did you get a good look at her face?” I asked her.

“Yes. She’s light skinned with cornrows. She was driving a white Toyota Tundra.”

“Okay, thank you so much, ma’am. I’ll give this information to the police.”

“Not a problem and if they need any further information just let me know. I’ll be more than happy to help.”

I nodded to the overly helpful white woman and then walked back to my driveway.

“What did they say?”

“A light skinned broad did it.” I informed Jahrein.

“Did they say what she was driving?”

“A white Toyota Tundra.”

“I don’t know anybody with a truck like that.”

“You sure that it wasn’t one of your hoes?” I asked him not really convinced that Khalil was that petty.

“What? First off I aint never showed a bitch where I stay. If anything that nigga Khalil probably paid a bitch to do this.”

“Aint no telling.” I sighed. I wasn’t dismissing anything at that point.

Jahrein called the police to make out a report, so that he could make a claim with his insurance company. He wasn’t tripping on the damages because it would be handled in no time. He was pissed that anyone had the gumption to fuck with his shit right in the front of our house.

By the end of the day Jahrein had called all of his boys to keep their ears open to the streets.

He wanted to know who’d violated us. He couldn’t just let it ride because this person had obviously gone through the trouble of finding our home.

No one had ever been to our house. So, he wasn’t going to rest until he figured this shit out.

We both lied on our couch in each other’s arms. The kids were sitting around in the living room too. They were all playing and entertaining each other. That’s when Jahrein’s cell went off. I picked it up and saw that the call was blocked.

“Hello.” I spoke into the phone.

“Where is Jahrein?” a chick asked.

“Who is this?” I asked. A few months ago I would’ve acted a fool just on the strength that a broad called him. Since we had been apart for a few months I was giving him a little lead way.

“Who is this?” the bitch asked getting indignant.

“Look, if you can’t identify yourself then you aint talking to nobody.”

“Well, this Tyra, his baby mama. Now, who is this?”

Those words caused my heart to skip a beat. My husband actually had a baby mama. Those weren’t words that I could get used to. So, I tossed him the phone and attempted to stand.

“Where you going?” Jahrein asked me as he pulled me back down next to him.

“Nowhere. Talk to your peoples.”

He smacked his lips as he wrapped his arm around me and then placed the phone to his ear. “Who this?”

I reached over and pressed the speaker phone key.

“Tyra.”

“Didn’t I tell you to stop calling me?” he snapped.

“How the fuck can we stop communicating when we have a child together?”

“I told you how. I’ll send you the money to handle your business. Don’t call me for nothing else.”

“What? Are you serious?” she cried. “My son needs a father just as much as the rest of your kids do.”

“Main, don’t come at me with this shit. You knew that I could never be there for him like that. I am married and that aint never gon change. My wife and kids come before everything else.”

“He’s your child too!” she roared.

“And I take care of him, but me and you aint got shit to say to each other. I got him when it comes to the money, but other than that you on your own.”

“I can’t believe that you would be that selfish.”

“Don’t start that shit. How did you get pregnant when I never fucked you naked headed? How did that happen?”

“One of the rubbers must’ve busted. But that don’t even matter, he‘s here now.”

“No, bitch you poked a hole in them bitches. You was trying to tear apart my happy home. Now you realize that you did all of that plotting and scheming for nothing.”

“Jahrein, he needs you.” she sobbed loudly. “Don’t take your frustrations out on our baby. You know how he loves you. He needs you. I need you. Regardless of what these bitches think, we are family.”

“Tyra, look, I’m tired of having this conversation. This will be your last time calling me because I’ll have a new number by tomorrow.”

“So, how can I contact you if anything happens to our son?”

“I don’t know. Call my mama on her cell. Just stop trying to contact me.”

“What?! You’s a sorry excuse for a man! Your son wants to talk to you right now. Can you at least talk to him?”

“No, I told you that it’s not going down like that.”

“Oh, yeah? I guess my name gotta be Raven to get some act right out your ass, huh? You stupid muthafucka! You just keep on chasing that bitch and see what happens! She aint shit! A real woman wouldn’t try to keep a father away from his child! When will you see that she aint about nothing?”
