Chapter Ten
Dylan immediately noticed June’s empty chair as he approached the table with their drinks in his hands.
“Nash Johnson,” Willow chuckled. “He pounced the moment you left the table.”
Gnashing his teeth, Dylan sat down. What the hell?
“So, Mom,” Willow was saying. “Tell us about your friend, Jeff.”
Arlene put the glass of wine in her hand down. “There’s not much to tell. We knew each other way back when. It was nice to see him again.”
“Come on, Mom,” Hayden said giving Willow a warning look, “let’s dance.”
“So your mother has never spoken about the fight?” asked Carson after Arlene had left with Hayden.
“Never,” said Becket. “She always said if our dad wanted us to know about it, he’d tell us. He never did.”
“Neither did our dad,” said Dylan. “Jeff mentioned they both liked the same pretty girl. Maybe the fight was about her.”
“A more urgent matter,” Cooper said, “is that the music has changed and Nash is still dancing with June.”
Dylan shrugged as he got up. “If that’s what she chooses, there’s not much I can do about it. Anyone else wants a drink?”
*
When the music changed again, June quickly dropped her hands. “Thank you, I want to get back to my table now.”
“What about another dance?”
Not answering him, she made her way to the table. Why she’d thought dancing with someone else would stop her thoughts from turning to Dylan she had no idea.
He wasn’t at the table, though.
Leaning closer, Willow winked. “Our Dylan is a bit upset.”
Frowning, June looked around to see where he was. “Why?”
“Why do you think? He’s over at the bar.” Willow motioned with her head.
Sighing, June grabbed her bag before making her way through the tables to where she’d spotted Dylan. She wanted to visit the bathroom as well. He was standing with his back turned to the festivities. Slipping a hand through his arm, she leaned her head against it.
For a few moments, he was quiet. “You done dancing with Johnson?”
She nodded. “I’m a bit freaked out if I’m honest. I’ve never felt what I feel when you kiss me.
I’ve read about stars exploding, one’s world rocking, and your blood reaching boiling point, but I’ve never experienced any of that before.
It was a myth, I’ve decided. Things like that don’t really happen in the real world.
” Inhaling deeply, she turned to him. “Until you kissed me.”
“Damn it, woman,” Dylan growled and gripping her hand, he pulled her behind him toward the exit.
“Dylan, what …?”
But ignoring her, he lengthened his strides, forcing her to do the same. In the foyer, she grabbed his arm. “I can’t walk this fast in the heels I’m wearing …”
Before she’d finished her sentence, he’d picked her up in his arms as if she weighed nothing. Nudging the doors of the hotel open with his shoulder, he walked outside.
“Dylan, what …?”
“Do you have any idea,” he said, his breath coming in gasps, “what your words just did to me?”
Slipping an arm around his neck, she watched his face. He really was a beautiful man. Square jaw, broad shoulders and his mouth … oh, my goodness, that mouth. Fascinated, she lifted her hand and traced his bottom lip.
Groaning, he quickly moved his hand and sucked in her finger. She felt it right down to her toes. “Dylan …”
“June, I-I …” he got out as he slid her down his body. Before she could say anything, he was kissing her, pressing her up against a truck. Probably his, but she couldn’t really care. All she cared about was that he didn’t stop. Ever.
Those big hands slid possessively over her shoulders, down her back, stoking the smoldering embers as far as they went.
Gasping, he lifted his head. “Get in the truck, please, before I undress you right here.”
Delicious shivers rippled through her body as he helped her inside, making sure his hand touched her breast ever so slightly.
By the time he was behind the wheel, she was ready to rip off her clothes. As he drove away from the hotel, he pulled at her skirt. “Lift up your skirt, I have to touch you …”
Unable to do anything else, she complied.
As his warm hand clamped around her leg, she nearly jumped out of her skin.
Feverish, she moved closer to him. It wasn’t enough though, not nearly.
Her fingers were opening his shirt buttons before she even thought about it, and she only relaxed somewhat when she was finally able to touch him too.
As he drove back to the house, his hand slid ever so slowly up her leg. Half delirious with wanting to be with this man, she turned and bending down put her lips on his warm skin. Her mouth moved down his throat, over his chest …
Just when she was ready to explode, the sound of screeching tires brought her back to earth.
“Your key?” Dylan demanded.
She was already digging it out. “Here.”
“I’ll unlock and come back for you.” Jumping out of the truck he raced toward the front door.
There was no way she could wait. As quickly as her high heels and long skirt allowed her, she got out of the truck and ran toward the front door as Dylan was pushing it open.
“I said wait …”
Dragging him after her, she closed the door. “You seriously wanna scold me right now?” She’d left a side lamp on before she’d left earlier. In the half-light, his eyes were glittering, sending messages that had her heart beating way too fast.
“Damn it, June …” Throwing his hat to the side, he pushed her against the wall, sweeping his hands down her body. “You make me crazy …”
“Ditto,” she just managed before his hot lips closed over hers.
*
Dylan couldn’t get enough of her. Soft curves, lean lines, rose petal skin, silky hair. Wafts of her soft, flowery scent were everywhere, seeping through his skin where it joined his heated blood.
Her hands were busy opening more buttons of his shirt.
“At last,” she breathed as she opened his shirt. “Impressive six-pack, cowboy.” Her words were husky, not quite steady, and even before her mouth slid over his chest, his blood shot way past boiling point.
Shrugging off his shirt, he caught her mouth again. Her lips were soft and warm, and wet from his previous kisses, and within seconds he was burning up. Gasping for air he lifted his head, steadying himself against the wall with his arms. “I … I don’t want to rush this …”
“Too late,” she moaned, slipping her arms around his body.
With his blood roaring in his ears, he bent down and kissed her again. All too soon, it wasn’t enough. He wanted more, so much more. As his mouth slid down her neck, his hands cupped her gorgeous breasts.
He swallowed her gasp, pulling her closer still while his hands ran over her, torturing them both giving her as much pleasure as he could. Her next moan came from deep in her throat at the same moment her heart tripped under his hand.
His own groan filled the air as he finally slipped his hand inside her strapless top so that he could touch her without any obstacle. Soft;, so, so soft.
“Wait.” Her hand moved behind her body and the next moment she threw the top to the side. The stone of the necklace he’d given her was lying between her breasts.
Nearly reverently, he fondled her breasts, his eyes roaming over her flushed face, her tangled hair, her swollen lips. “Beautiful. You’re so, so beautiful.” Bending down, he closed his mouth over a hardened nipple.
*
The sensation of his lips and tongue on her breasts shot her senses into overdrive, her knees buckled, but Dylan was there to catch her as they slid to the floor. Everywhere he touched, a throbbing ache flared up, leaving her aching, wanting more.
How was it possible that she’d turned thirty and had never experienced this, never knew she could want someone else so desperately? When his mouth finally found hers again, she gathered him close, reveling in his broad shoulders, the muscles rippling under her fingers.
They rolled on the carpet, caressing, nibbling, tasting in between soft moans and sighs and whimpers. She was still wearing her skirt and heels, but when he pushed up her skirt, she didn’t even think of getting rid of it, it would take too much time.
Suckling her breast, his hands skimmed over her legs. Each time it moved a little higher, a little closer to where she was craving his touch. By the time his fingers finally slipped beneath the last barrier, her body arched up, begging for more.
“Look at me,” he said and slowly she opened her eyes. As their eyes locked, he slipped the black satin and lace painfully slow down her legs, his fingers touching her everywhere, leaving little fires just below her skin.
Getting on to his knees, his eyes still on her, he unbuckled his belt and got rid of his jeans.
Her eyes widened.
“You like what you see?” He grinned.
“Oh, yeah.” She reached to undo her shoes. “My shoes …”
“Leave them. It’s hot.” Lifting one of her legs, he pressed his mouth to the back of her knee while his hands skimmed up and up her leg driving her closer and closer to an edge she’d never been to before.
“Dylan …”
As his fingers found her core and he teased and stroked her, a strong wind simply grabbed her and threw her up a steep mountain. It was a wild ride. She tried to keep her eyes on him, but as she crested, her head fell back and crying out his name, she flew.
*
In awe, Dylan watched her. He’d never seen anything so beautiful before. As she opened her eyes, he lay down beside her, his mouth on her breasts again.
“Dylan …” she murmured, slipping her hands in his hair.
As he feasted on her soft curves, trying to still the aching hunger inside him, his hands found her core again.
She was so ready for him. This was for her, though, so even while he was ready to burst, he continued to nibble and lick and love her soft curves until something deep inside him that had been curled up in a tight ball, loosened, spreading warmth to all the corners in the rooms of his heart.
The air around them was thick, heavy, making breathing increasingly more difficult.
Finally, he couldn’t contain the need to become a part of her anymore. Hoisting himself above her, he looked his fill. Her heavy breasts were wet with his lovemaking, her hair spread out over carpet, her eyes dark pools of liquid ink.
“Look at me,” he murmured as he slowly entered her. He tried to keep his eyes on her, he didn’t want to miss a thing, but as her warmth clamped around him, blood roared in his ears, his head fell back and thrusting forward, he cried out her name.
Within milliseconds she’d found his rhythm, and seconds later, they broke free together.
