Chapter 25

— Remmy —

Since my plans had shifted slightly, I got ready with Steph and Bren in my hotel room that evening. I hadn’t heard much from Scout for the rest of the evening aside from a message telling me he couldn’t wait to get his hands on me later. I hadn’t even bothered to hide my grin—his message promised debauchery and sex wild enough to leave us both walking like cowboys come morning.

Twisting to and fro, I scrutinized my appearance in my hotel room mirror. Purposely dressed to bring all men to their knees, the little black long-sleeved shortie playsuit was designed to do exactly that. While the sleeves where long, the bottom half of the jumpsuit was short, and the deep plunging V revealing my cleavage gave fuck my tits but don’t fuck with me vibes. If people were to look close enough, they’d see the outline of my nipple rings. Paired with silver heels that laced back and forth up my ankle, showing my long, toned legs, the outfit was my favorite dress code.

“Oh yeah,” Bren drawled, nodding with approval. “This is going to have him blowing his load prematurely. Baseball star or not, there’s no way he’s going to be able to hold his shit together before he peels that half off you.”

I giggled, then pursed my lips. “I hope not. I’ve got plans for a full night of dirty sex ahead of me.”

Curling her eyelashes, Steph scoffed. “I don’t know about the entire night, but shit’s gonna get wild within these four walls.” She made a point of looking around, then flashing me a dirty grin. “Oh, to be a fly on the wall when you two go at it.”

Bren’s face flamed while I burst out laughing. “Girl, just don’t make eye contact!”

Steph roared laughter. “If I were a fly, I’d have to be sitting on the tip of your nose to make eye contact. I’d prefer on the bed post to get an overview of the action.”

“Oh my gooooood,” Bren groaned, then snapped a little straighter—her exposed shoulders squaring in her off-the-shoulder dress. “Do you think you’ll meet up with Snacks Guy Nero later? I’m worried both you bitches are going to ditch me.”

Steph took Bren’s hand and gave it a squeeze. “Never ditching, babes. If we end up meeting up with him…” Steph shrugged. “We’ll see. But I’m going where you’re going, and vice versa. So if you’re the one getting lucky tonight, I’ll be sitting in the bedroom corner until you and whoever finish your wicked games.”

I laughed again while fussing with my hair. “You’re fucking creepy tonight, Steph!”

She finished her makeup. “It’s been a while, okay? I’m a little needy.” She slammed her hands onto her hips and switched topics. “Okay, outfit check.”

“Hot as always,” I assured her, raking my eyes down her dark floral lacy tank top and tight black leather skirt.

Bren clicked her tongue. “I wish I had your boobs, Steph.”

Steph cupped said boobs. “I do like my boobs. But I like your ass more, and Rem’s legs more.”

Bren popped her booty in her short, light-brown ruched dress as she plucked up her little bag. She snapped into place with a flick of her lush, foiled locks. “Ready to paint the town red, ladies?”

Flames practically danced in Steph’s caramel eyes. “Girl, I’m ready to paint this town fifty shades of kaleidoscope.”

I opened my arms and gathered my girls close. “Stay safe tonight, babes. If there’s an emergency, call. If you end up in jail, wait till morning.”

Teetering on high heels, we cackled in our group hug, then made promises to stay safe and meet up tomorrow for a debrief by lunchtime.

After plucking up my room keycards and tucking them safely into my silver clutch, I turned back to my besties. “Ready?”

Excitement danced in Bren’s blue eyes. “Lead the way, Rems.”

Steph however… “Get the fuck out the door, bitch. You’re stalling!”

She added a playful slap to my ass and sent us all stumbling into the corridor, barely not breaking our ankles so early in the night.

We laughed and teased each other during the elevator ride to the ground floor of the hotel, but once the doors opened to deposit us in the lobby, we fell silent. Not timid silent. Man-eater silent.

Chins up and shoulders back, we clicked across the tiled floor until reaching the bustling hotel bar at the main hotel doors.

I gave Bren and Steph one last hug for the night. “Stay safe you two.”

“Stalling,” Steph snapped again, despite smiling. “Can’t wait to goss tomorrow.”

After one last squeeze of each other’s hands, the large glass doors coasted open, unleashing Bren and Steph onto the streets of Miami.

Turning to the packed bar, I pulled on my icy bitch mask and strode into the throes of laughter, voices, and music. I spotted the Bears team immediately. All the guys were stylishly dressed in collared shirts and slacks, and when I spotted Scout among the group, my heart somersaulted.

He sat with his profile to me at a table halfway along the street-facing windows. He didn’t spot me as I made my way over, only glancing my way when a teammate nudged his arm and nodded in my direction.

Scout didn’t recognize me at first. Not until he’d looked away, then whipped his head around in a classic double take. His eyes sprang wide, and he pulled me into his arms before I had a chance to brace myself.

He then held me at arm’s length, devouring me with his molten gaze. “My god, Remmy. You’re stunning . You sure know how to make an entrance.” His eyes darted around the bar before his mouth dropped close to my ear. “Every bastard is looking at you. I don’t like it.”

Smoothing my arms around his shoulders when he drew me close again, I grinned up at him. “Really? I hadn’t noticed.”

“Bullshit.” The slight tic in his jaw had my smile turning coy.

“I noticed you, though.” With his dark hair swept handsomely to the side and him smelling of cologne that had me craving to wrap my legs around his waist, my god I’d noticed. Add to that, the expensive two-toned gold watch on his tanned wrist, he exuded effortless style and class.

His warm hands ran up and down my waist, making me arch into his touch. My god, he was gorgeous.

“Knowing you’re dressed like this is going to kill me until I get my hands on you again later.”

I battered my eyelashes. “Innocent touches until then, right? Especially since we’re out in public.”

Scout’s face darkened. “I wish. Not even that, babe.”

I felt my brows tug a little, not understanding what he meant.

He dropped his mouth close to my ear again and angled me away from the closest people around us. “After the game, we hang out as a team… No wives or partners.”

My chin tucked back, and my shoulders squared. I knew where this was going, and I felt the rejection before he elaborated.

“It’s a rule to keep up appearances for the fans, without having the distraction of—”

I took a subtle backward step, having heard enough. “I get it, Scout. I’ve been dismissed.”

Fingertips subtly flexed on my forearms. “Not dismissed. Never. Just on ice until I can come up to your room. Then… I’m going to eat you like a starved man. I haven’t had your taste on my tongue for weeks.”

Ignoring the needy pulse between my legs and forcing a smile that came easier than I expected, I extracted my spare keycard from my clutch and scissored it between my index and middle fingers. “You can let yourself in,” I purred.

A wry little smirk played on Scout’s face as he plucked it from my fingers and tucked it into his wallet.

“Best you be up and waiting, Remmy.”

The possessive growl to his tone sent a trickle of anticipation through my abdomen. But that took a backseat to the vexation burning in my chest. Remmy Adams didn’t wait like a demure little princess holed up in a hotel for no one—baseball star or not.

I lifted my chin and fought the urge to bare my teeth. “Don’t count on it.”

Before he could voice the confusion scrunching his expression, I kissed him quick and hard, then strode through the bar without looking back. Not even when he called my name—once.

I had my phone to my ear by the time the hotel’s main doors slid open for me. Steph answered with concern coloring her voice.

“Uh, hi?”

“Where you guys at?”

Her reply stuttered for a brief second. “At a bar a few doors down. Why?”

I took a deep breath to ease the hurt in my chest. “Change of plan. The three of us are going clubbing tonight.”
