Vivianna
Pain ripped through my body as I sank to the floor in my own mess of fluids.
I knew my water broke, but I also knew something was very very wrong.
Everyone knows that contractions will be painful, the most pain you will have to endure your whole life, but nothing prepares you really.
The room is now filled with people in a flurry of movement, but I can’t concentrate on anything but the fact I know one of my babies is in trouble.
Please tell me you’re here, I can’t do this on my own.
I’m always here, no matter how hard they try to get rid of me. We will survive this, I promise.
God, how did my life end up here? I was never sure I wanted to be a mother, but now that I am.... I’ll do anything to protect those two little girls I haven’t even met yet.
“Quickly, we need to get her into the operating room, this was never going to happen naturally,” Dr. Faulk barked as I was lifted from the floor onto a gurney. “Make sure everyone is aware that this is happening now, whether we like it or not.”
“Doctor, her mate isn’t here. He gave word that he would be out of the state,” a nurse explained, panic filling her voice.
“Nothing we can do about that now, he’ll just be grateful that we delivered his children safely,” Dr. Faulk answered as he walked alongside me checking my pulse.
I shook his hand off and grabbed his wrist pulling him down almost falling into the bed with me.
“They. Are. Not. His.” I hissed into his ear. “My true mates gave me these blessings and I will not let you take them.”
It took three nurses to pull him from me and when one tried to inject something he waved them off. “No, we can’t give her anything until we know what state the babies are in. All werewolf mothers are volatile and since her wolf woke up she’s doubly so— just watch yourselves.”
Ready to show them just how volatile I was, I lurched up in the bed, but another contraction hit me and I was knocked flat on my back snarling in pain.
It felt as if someone was taking their hands and trying to shove these babies out of my body before I was ready.
On this contraction, I wet myself as my whole lower body tightened up with the need to push.
I cried out, gripping the side rails of the gurney.
Soon, I was wheeled into a room much like the one I woke up in, but there is more equipment scattered around.
They were going to do a C-section. I knew the process even if I’d never done one myself.
“Get me monitoring. I need to know what I’m dealing with before I start cutting.” Dr. Faulk ordered as nurses flew into action.
I was stripped out of my gown and cold gel was placed on my stomach for an ultrasound. Another nurse put fresh electrode stickers on me and hooked everything up, including the IV. Seconds went by and I could hear the sound of one of the babies heart beats over the ultrasound speakers.
“I have baby number one, her head is down and ready to go,” the nurse called out. “Having trouble finding number two.”
“She normally has been tucked in the back, under her ribs trying to be close to the sound of her mother’s beating heart,” another nurse called out.
“Found her. Doctor.....I can’t seem to find a heartbeat. She doesn’t seem to be shifting either as her sister is moving around her.”
These words speared into my heart causing me to reach for the tech. “Check again. You have to check again. She can’t… I can’t.....no. no.no. Please don’t tell me this is real.” I wailed as I felt the sedative entering my blood stream.
“Vivianna we can’t give you a normal epidural and this won’t last long in your system, but anything else I use will be too much,” Dr. Faulk explained as he approached me with his surgical gear on.
“I don’t give a flying fuck what I feel or don’t. You have to save my babies, if you can save them, I will do whatever you want. Please.”
Dr. Faulk held my gaze a moment before he nodded. “Scalpel.”
Because I wasn’t numb like I was supposed to be, I could feel the bite of the blade cutting across my skin.
It burned like I was being set on fire, but I pushed it aside and pulled my wolf closer to me having no one else to cling to.
The room was silent. The only sound was the machines beeping in the background as I begged to hear the cries of my child.
Moments later it happened, the high pitched wails of a very unhappy baby filled the room as a nurse rushed to take her from the doctor.
I kept an eye on her as she carried her over to a table and started to clean her off, but that only seemed to piss the baby off even more.
I couldn’t help but smile at how strong her little arms and legs looked waving and kicking in the air.
The bite of the knife against my skin made me scream as I saw him widen the incision.
“She isn’t moving, get a crash cart ready. I’ve almost got her...”
Seeing a man elbow deep in my body would have been unsettling for anyone, but all I was focused on was the small bundle that he pulled out. Only this child wasn’t a tiny human, no she was a pup, her fur coated in blood and fluid.
“Dry her off and start the veterinary procedure since she’s shifted. Hopefully, we can get her awake enough to shift back into her human body,” Dr. Faulk instructed, leaving me cut open on the table.
My gaze bounced back between both of my children needing to make sure everything was alright.
The nurse with my first daughter now had her wrapped up tight and rocking her in an attempt to sooth her.
Simultaneously, the other two nurses and Dr. Faulk worked on my other daughter.
Rubbing her with cloths, picking up her back legs and holding her upside-down trying to get the fluid out of her lungs and mouth.
They took suction and tried to clear it out that way, but it seemed nothing was working.
When one of the nurses stopped her rubbing and took a step back a crestfallen look on her face, I couldn’t take it anymore.
Help me, I need to get to her.
Without hesitation, I felt my wolf surge through me, bolstering me enough that I was able to stand on my own two feet.
Once again, I pulled off all the leads and IV, staggering with my gaping wound towards my child.
It took a moment for them to notice me, but when they reached out to try and stop me I snarled, baring my teeth at them.
My alpha powers burst from me, pushing them back, causing their own wolves to cower and show their bellies.
Dr. Faulk watched me, fear in his eyes as I picked up the small pup.
I could see now that she’d gotten my fur with a tinge of purple on the tips, letting me know who the father might have been, not that it would ever matter to me or them.
Cradling her to my chest, I slid down the wall until I reached the floor.
I curled my body around hers and let out a wail unlike any I’d ever heard before.
Even when I thought I might have lost Rik, this hurt so much more.
It felt as if someone had taken my heart out of my chest and set it on fire, my brain couldn’t handle the pain.
I felt a yawning void waiting to swallow me up, what was the point of living after failing to protect my own child.
Tears ran down my cheeks as I buried my face into my daughter’s tiny body, breathing in her soft floral scent.
I willed my brain to never forget it, that I would hunt the world over for something that even remotely matched her, so I could have it forever.
A keening howl slipped out of my lips as I rocked back and forth.
I felt someone approach and I lifted my head, a warning snarl at the ready.
Then I saw it was the nurse with my other daughter who was still crying.
Her face was all red and scrunched up as she voiced her outrage.
Gingerly, the nurse handed her over to me and stepped back, allowing me space to hold my babies.
This caused another wave of heartbreak as I looked at them both cradled in each of my arms. Finally, my little one took a deep breath and nuzzled her face against my chest rooting around for milk.
Carefully, I maneuvered her so that she could get to my nipple.
I hissed as her sharp teeth bit into my skin as she latched onto my nipple and began suckling.
I had been warned this could be a possibility with strong baby shifters.
Now I was marked as a mate and as a mother, but I would never bear the mark of my second daughter, who I would mourn and miss for the rest of my life.
“Vivianna, we need to close your incision, I used silver blades so it wouldn’t heal. If we leave you like this for much longer you could bleed out and leave your child motherless as well as having lost a sister,” Dr. Faulk said as he approached carefully still keeping a wary eye on me.
“Hand me the regular scalpel and I’ll cut off the skin touched by the silver, then my healing will take over,” I growled, not wanting that man to touch me ever again.
“I can’t do that Vivianna, and you know it.”
I held his gaze and let all the hatred I had for him pour out. “You will never touch me or mine again.”
“Then you leave me no choice,” Dr. Faulk said and grabbed a radio from the counter. “Alpha, I’m going to need your assistance.”
Moments later a man walked into the room, took a moment to observe the scene then headed my direction.
He was tall and powerfully built with short black hair and eyes so dark they looked black as well.
Everything about him screamed dominance, down to the black slacks and blood red shirt he wore.
He stopped a few steps away and looked down his nose at me, smirking.
“You need to get off the floor, Dama,” He ordered, putting his alpha energy behind it, but I batted it aside with my own.
My lip twisted in a snarl as I glared up at him. “Who the fuck are you?”
“I’m Jason Grayson, Vadik’s half-brother and your new second mate.”
