Chapter 5

Chapter Five

Paige

The entire weekend was boring as fuck – the only thing that made it worthwhile was the sex with Cole. It was amazing. He is just amazing. And I’m falling for him fast.

After we go home, we’ll go back to arch enemies, and this will all be in the past. Cole Donovan doesn’t commit. I should know this already, but of course I had to be the girl who breaks her one fucking rule.

Never ever get involved with a co-worker. No matter how good looking he may be.

The good news is the weekend is over, so I can finally go home and relax. Knowing my roommate, there will be no relaxing. I’ll have to tell her every single damn detail of this weekend.

We’re at the airport already, waiting for our plane to board. There’s a Starbucks, so I go to stand in line. I could use a mango iced chai right about now. Cole follows along, not speaking much at all.

“Are you alright?”

“Yeah, good.” He says, nonchalantly.

“You don’t seem good…” I push just a little bit.

“Can we talk about this after you get your coffee?” He asks, looking at the ground.

“Sure.” I nod, agreeing. I give his hand a small squeeze which he returns. Cole looks so sad, but I don’t know why.

I order my chai, and wait for it by the side counter. Cole takes a seat on one of the chairs behind us. Once my drink is done, I sit beside him.

“What’s going on?” I ask, sipping on my chai.

“Have you checked your email?”

“Not since last night.” I shrug.

“You should.” He says, looking away from me again.

I open up my work email, clicking on the most recent.

“What is this?” I ask, confused. It looks like a sex tape.

“Our sex tape. Someone recorded us yesterday and sent it to head office. It’s our termination email.”

I gasp so loudly people turn and stare.

“What do you mean? Who could have done that?”

“I’m not sure. But I decided not to go back with you.”

“You can’t leave me? You can’t stay here? What will you do? Where will you go?”

“We aren’t together Paige. I can stay here. I don’t know what I will do, but I’m a big boy.”

“But…this weekend…it meant nothing?”

“Of course it did. But we would never work, especially now.”

“I’ll stay here then. I’m not leaving you Cole Donovan. I fucking love you.” His eyes go wide at that, and so do mine. Definitely didn’t mean to spurt that out loud.

“You love me?”

“Yes. I do.”

“I love you too Paige. I was scared you didn’t feel the same way…”

“Of course I love you, you idiot! I have for so long, this weekend just made me realize I can’t live without you.

” I gush, not sure what the hell I’m even saying.

But I know for a fact that Cole Donovan is the man for me.

Even through all the tough nitty gritty…

deep down, he’s the most genuine soul to exist.

“Damn Paige. I’ve loved you since the moment we walked into that office. And for the rest of my life, I will only love you.”

“Let's start our new life here. Vancouver is beautiful. There’s lots of jobs on the market. We can do it.”

Cole nods eagerly, “I was about to say the exact same thing.” We pick up our bags, heading out of the airport and into our rental car again. I look up a hotel to book for the night – a different and nicer one. It has a hot tub and a pool, plus a jacuzzi tub in our room.

“We’ll look for a house in the morning. I have a ton of money saved up from the past years which will be enough for a mortgage and down payment.”

“Can we get a cat?” I ask, excitedly.

“We can get as many cats as you desire.”

I smile, leaning my head back in the seat as we drive through downtown Vancouver.

This is the start of our new life as new people in a new city.
