Chapter Twenty-Seven-Evie

Power pulsed through me like never before.

I was so damn mad at Dick.

How dare he come to my town, date me, dump me, kidnap Mrs. Fox’s children, and now, he was making plans for an all-out banishment of supernaturals who weren’t Witch or Wizard?

Hell. No.

I raised my hand.

Aqua flames shot from my fingertips, wrapping around the now-screaming Wizard like a magical Python of justice.

Dick Daniels writhed on the ground, flopping and screeching like a fish in a deep fryer.

But I didn’t let up.

“Get the children!” I yelled, even though I knew I didn’t need to.

Jaxson and his buddies were already moving, a blur of fur and fangs turned muscle and grit as they charged toward the cage holding the terrified Fox twins.

Donny and Bella raced beside them, hands glowing as they zapped through the magical locks like seasoned pros.

“You thought you could shame me? Trick me? Blackmail me into handing over this town?” I spat, keeping the heat of my magic focused.

Dick shrieked like a banshee in a discount business suit. “You never even wanted Castor’s Corner, Evie! You said that on our first date, remember? You called it a burden!”

“Oh, I remember,” I said with a snarl. “But I changed my damn mind. Castor’s Corner isn’t a burden. It’s my destiny. And as long as I’m mayor, I will protect it with every spark in my soul.”

“I just wanted to clean up this town!” he howled, flailing dramatically as if he were starring in some off-Broadway supernatural soap.

“No, Dick. You’re just a power-hungry asshat. And the only thing we need to clean up around here is you.”

My knees buckled slightly.

Holding his writhing, snotty self in place with raw magic was draining every bit of juice I had left—but I wasn’t alone.

Bella and Donny stepped in, power flaring in gold and pink, their hands lifting as they took the magical reins.

“Thanks, cousins,” I whispered with a tired grin. They winked, then nodded for me to do what I had to do.

I took a breath, felt the magic gather deep in my core, then launched into the spell.

A little ancient, a little improvised, and very much from the heart.

“Gaia on high,

Hear my call,

This racist fucker

Must answer to all.

For his crimes against

Our children and more,

We cast Dick Daniels

Far from our shore.

Across time and space,

I ask you to send

This tiny-pricked ass

To a place without friends.”

And with that, I summoned the great shimmering ball of aqua-colored power I’d been holding inside and flung it at him like a fast-pitch softball of doom.

The explosion lit up the cemetery.

When the dust settled, all that remained of Dick was a blackened scorch mark on the grass and a faint scent of cheap aftershave.

“Shit, I’m tired,” I gasped—and the world tilted sideways.

Strong arms caught me before I face-planted into the grass.

“Easy,” Jaxson murmured, his voice warm and rough at my ear as he scooped me up like I weighed nothing. “I got you, darlin’.”

“You sure do, Wolfman,” I mumbled. “If you want me?”

He blinked down at me like I’d just handed him the moon.

“Are you serious?”

“Uh-huh,” I whispered. “I want you to mate me, Jaxson. For real. I want to wear your claiming bite. I want you to stay in Castor’s Corner. With me.”

“And my friends?” he asked, glancing at the other two.

Conrad and Ryan, now in their human forms, were watching with cautious hope in their eyes.

Bella and a flushed Donny stood nearby, cradling the rescued Fox twins.

“Well, I’m a one-Wolf kinda Witch,” I said, teasing him.

“Damn fucking straight you are. I meant, can they stay?”

Jaxson narrowed his lightning-bright eyes at me, and mock-frowned, but his teasing grin told me he was more than a match for my sass.

“Well, I believe Castor’s Corner is looking for a fire crew, and it seems we just got a new sheriff,” I said with a tired smile. “Think you three are up for it long term?”

“Yes, ma’am,” Conrad and Ryan chorused.

“Good,” I managed. “Now, Jaxson?”

“What is it, Darlin’?”

“Take me home, I think I’m gonna—”

And just like that, I passed the hell out.
