The terror in Nina’s eyes slayed me, but there was no point in lying. These guys were trained mercenaries, and they wouldn’t hesitate to kill us once they had the information they needed.
“The minute you tell them what they want to know, they’ll kill us.”
“I don’t think I can do this,” she repeated.
“Yes, you can. You’re stronger than you think. Just remember what I said, and you’ll get through this. I promise I’ll get you out of this mess.”
Nina didn’t believe me, and I couldn’t blame her. Our situation seemed dire, and I couldn’t tell her about the trackers.
“Trust me, okay.”
When she nodded, tears sprayed off her chin, and I barely heard her “okay” in response.
I prayed again that SSI and Shepherd Security were already on their way.
I added a second part to my prayer. Please don’t let John and the guys from SSI try to tackle this alone.
I didn’t know how I’d manage if I was the reason their wives became widows.
