CHAPTER 73

WREN

It was hot as fuck, but I won’t admit that to the little vixen. The change has definitely heightened her sex drive, and all I can think about right now is whether or not I’m prepared or capable of keeping up with it. We have too much to do and too much at stake at the moment to allow ourselves to be distracted, but fuck me, she’s a good distraction.

I can’t wait until this whole murderous vampire thing is dealt with so I can lock us in my tower for days. I want no interruptions as I ravage her body into pure euphoria. I’ll give her what she craves then, but for now…I’ll have to just tease her hunger.

“Can you focus long enough to give me directions?” I ask.

She rolls her eyes at me and props her feet up on the dash. My eye twitches, but I bite my tongue because I can’t deal with more of her attitude right now. She made me come while I was driving, and I just want to drive my cock into her cunt as punishment.

“Take the next left up there at the light. His apartment building will be at the end of the street on the right.”

We pull up to a ritzy apartment building that looks almost brand new. My anger awakens inside of me, that while Chess lived in ruins, Adrian used his own wages, plus hers, to live in such luxury. I park the car under a tree on the street and Chess slides herself smoothly from the vehicle. I come around beside her, grip her hip and pull her up against my side. She looks up at me with her mouth slightly open in surprise.

“I hope you know that when this is over, I’ll punish you for what you just did.”

“You say it like it’s a bad thing. I’m looking forward to it, Wren Valkyrie.”

She scurries away from me, giggling as she goes, while I just stand here with my jaw dropped. “Feisty,”

I chuckle, following after her.

She’s staring at the resident list on the wall outside the building. She drags her hand down every single buzzer and steps back while I gawk at her. “What? It’s not like we can just buzz to his apartment, and he’ll just let us right in.”

“Yeah?”

A woman’s voice comes from the other end.

“Pizza?”

Chess says cautiously, and then we hear the tone for the door. She smirks up at me. “People are so stupid,”

she laughs, grabbing the handle.

I follow her through the lobby towards the elevator and a sense of dread settles through my bones. “Chess,”

I whisper as she pushes the button. “Something isn’t right here.”

“What do you mean?”

We step into the elevator, and she punches the button to the tenth floor. “I don’t know how to explain it, but I feel…”

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it’s like my entire body is electrified and riddled with fear. “Something is screaming at me to run.”

“What?”

She says confused, turning to look up at me.

My skin prickles the closer we get to Adrian’s floor, and my heart is pounding against my chest. What is this feeling? I haven’t felt fear like this in centuries, and any fear I’ve had, has never been spoken about. This fear is deep. It’s like my entire body is warning me of a greater threat.

The elevator opens, and my legs are physically shaking as I walk with Chess right to Adrian’s door. She lifts her hand to knock but stops and presses her ear to it instead.

“There’s someone in there with him,”

she murmurs with a frown.

I grip her hand and pull her away from the door just as it opens. Adrian is standing there with a cocky grin on his face. “Valkyrie,”

he says. “I see you saved the human.”

His eyes shift to Chess. “You must think you’re so special,”

he spits out.

“You don’t seem surprised to see me, Adrian,”

I say, pulling Chess closer to me.

He shrugs his shoulders. “I figured you’d come eventually since you wanted to kill me for doing my fucking job. Clearly I didn’t see how attached you were to the whore.”

Chess grips at my arm as I move towards him, and he backs into his apartment. His grin spreads wider and I can’t figure out what game he’s playing. He should be fearing for his life seeing me here, but yet, he seems almost…gleeful.

I hear Chess gasp and turn from Adrian to her behind me, and my heart drops.

No.

“Hello, pet.”
