Chapter 36 #2
“That’s what I’m hoping.” I pull her closer to me, thinking just how easy it was getting out of there. Too easy.
Relief falls over me when I see Chain roll up first followed by Bullet, and then the rest of the club. A rescue mission. My club came for us.
Gratitude hits me like an ocean wave all while Danika’s body eases from tension watching my brothers and Angel shut off their rides.
With Danika still glued at my side, I meet my brothers.
Chain claps a hand to my shoulder. “Shit. You both look like hell. You good?” Chain eyes my wrists with the now dry blood caked on them.
All heads turn to Danika as she cuts us off. “Um. Shouldn’t you be going in guns blazing? You know, revenge and all that stuff.”
Charger glances at the parking garage we just fleeted from. “We were fully prepared to do that, but Prez here told us we’re to stand down.”
“Yeah, we’re just as curious as you.” Tank rubs his bearded jaw, landing a watchful eye on Chain.
Angel strides by Danika, brushing a hand to my forearm with a happy you’re not dead look and then continues to check on my girl.
Chain clears his throat. “Bullet tapped into the surveillance cameras at the diner. They pointed straight across the street to Danika’s apartment. And since Alexander owned me a little favor, I was able to gain a location to where you guys were.”
“But how?” I ask, a touch of madness in my tone.
“Her men were regulars. Turns out he didn’t know everything that was happening at his club like he claimed. Big talker prick.”
No shit. Or he would have been aware that night when Danika was roofied.
A side door opens and the same woman as before steps out looking bored and unfazed. She gives a slow clap with her fuck stick Elroy at her side. I clench my fist because I will be killing that bastard.
Tank, Charger, and Throttle ready themselves, reaching for their pieces inside their cuts, but I watch Chain not even move a threatening muscle as he casually steps around the club.
“I like the new place, Amelia. Upgrade from the last shit hole you were in.” Chain crosses his arms over his chest as they both meet face to face.
“I’ll take that as a compliment.” The woman named Amelia smirks, resting a hand on her hip.
“It wasn’t.” Tank flashes her a sneer but she ignores him.
What the fuck is going on?
“I must say I’m impressed you found me, ol’ man. Not looking as youthful as I once remember.”
Chain scoffs. “Right back atcha. How many surgeries did it take to hide that pretty little scar she gave you?”
Her cocky smirk drops as she raises a brow. “How is Maggie by the way?”
Angel clicks her tongue. “I know my brothers, despite everything they stand for, would never lay hands on a woman. But I sure the fuck can.” She steps forward ready to challenge our captor, but Chain shoots an arm out stopping her and she lets out a frustrated sigh.
Our President moves in front of Angel, directing his menacing stare at Amelia.
“The only reason you aren’t dead is because this is not a war we wanna have.
You’re lucky they’re only bruised and scratched because if it were worse, I’d let her put a bullet in your head.
” He cocks his thumb at Angel who grins.
“I was tired of your games back then and I’m not playing them now. ”
“Yeah, yeah. Cut the dramatics, big boy. I get it. But I’ll have you know, I wasn’t going to kill them. They’re too obnoxiously adorable.” She winks at Danika and me, but her confession does nothing for my sympathy toward her.
Danika gives a squeeze to my hand. “So, it was all for show. Kidnapping us and tying us up was only for your sick entertainment?” My girl is pissed and I’m right there with her.
“You did kill one of my main guys. I had to punish you somehow.”
“Your guy was a rapist.”
The woman shrugs like it’s no big deal. “Then he won’t be missed.”
“You need to be locked up for what you’re doing,” Danika seethes in frustration.
She throws her head back, a sharp laughter filling the space around us. “I’m a businesswoman, little girl. I do what I need to, to get where I am. You think being a woman in my line of business is easy? I worked my ass off to earn my ranking as a drug Queen.”
“You’re helping feed people’s mental illnesses. That’s not something to be proud of.”
She cocks her head, and I take one step ahead of Danika. Amelia eyes me first then grins. “They are their own people. I don’t force the pill on their tongue.”
Danika practically snarls in disgust. “You might as well have.”
Something flashes in the woman’s eyes, a flicker of lightness, maybe sorrow before she waves a dismissive hand.
She goes to speak but I interrupt her, stepping away from my woman, and stopping only inches from the drug Queen herself.
“I have a bone to pick with your guy.” I point to Elroy who stands about five feet beside his boss, and I don’t miss the slight swallow.
“Go ahead. I can’t afford someone so unhinged anyway. He’s all yours.”
I grin with satisfaction but first, brush my fingers along Danika’s. I then stalk toward him. I’m going to take him away from this earth, and I’m going to do it with a fucking smile on my face.
He reaches for his piece in panic, but I’m too fast. I bend his elbow back, clocking him in the face, and break his nose.
“I told you I’d come for you.” I take his own piece aiming it at his head and pull the trigger. His body falls to the ground, blood pooling all around him.
Amelia stares down at her former pet, one brow cocked up. “If you’re all finished, get the hell off my turf.”
Chain invades her space, a hint of nerves flashing over her. “Don’t come near my guys again, Amelia. I mean it. Because next time, I won’t be so nice.”
The more he calls her by her name, the more familiar it becomes. I heard it before, I know I have.
Her expression is more sincere. But she can play that game somewhere else.
She smirks. “You know, you’ve gotten meaner in your old age. Is Maggie finally breaking you down? You’re not bored of her yet?”
“You’re done saying her name. She stays out of your mouth. I mean it.” Chain firmly keeps a finger pointed at her, and something resembling hurt fills Amelia’s features.
“Fair enough, Bennie.”
We go still and Chain winces.
Tank holds in a soft laugh. “Boss. Your name is—”
“Do not finish that sentence. Let’s get the fuck out of here.” Our President spins, leading us out of this shit hole.
I don’t know how they know each other, but Chain obviously wants to keep the peace considering he’s letting her live. And if he really thought she’d have killed us, he’d end her.
I take Danika’s hand in mine, my lips softly grazing her knuckles. “Let’s go home.”
She sighs, leaning into me. “Yes. Let’s go home.”
