Chapter 57 The Burning Prince
Damn. Damn. Damn.
After Claus suddenly bolted off to who knows where, I was still shaking. But that was nothing compared to what I saw next. I peeked again from behind a stack of crates, and my heart nearly flew out of my chest.
Not because of that crazy Duke, but because of the figure stepping out of a fancy carriage in front of the warehouse gates. Prince Didier. Seriously, what is he doing here?! It's a harbor, for God's sake.
I saw Julian and Gisella, who were just debating logistics, yeah, they were actually vibing so hard I thought my plan was legit working and they suddenly went dead silent.
Gisella, who usually turns into a total simp for Didier, eyes sparkling and breathless like a lovesick puppy, was now looking at him with a... flat stare.
Oh my god, my plan, I panicked internally. In the original novel, Gisella was supposed to run straight into Didier's arms. But now she's just standing there next to Julian?
Didier walked over. He wasn't just walking; he was doing a damn parade. His face was bright red, veins popping out on his neck. He saw Gisella standing way too close to Julian, then he saw Julian still holding that apple from before.
The air got heavy as hell. I could feel the killing aura radiating off Didier. This Prince was clearly blind with jealousy, or more like, he felt like his "property" was being touched by someone else.
"Your Highness, what are you doing here?" Gisella started, her tone totally calm. Calm?! Gisella, you should be panicking! You should be crying!
Didier didn't hear a word. He kept walking until he was standing right between Gisella and Julian. He shoved Julian's shoulder hard.
"You!" Didier jabbed a finger at Julian's chest. "Lowly soldier. How dare you..."
Julian just stared at Didier with a look that gave me a heart attack. He didn't bow; he stared right back with a challenge. Whoa, Julian, that's a Prince! Don't go looking for death!
"Your Highness," Julian said, his voice calm but mocking. "You're in the wrong place. This warehouse is only for people with actual business."
Didier didn't care. He wasn't listening. His eyes were locked on Gisella, who stood there silently. His ego was being crushed in public. His fiancée, the noble lady who was supposed to worship him, was busy debating with his brother's subordinate in a stinking fish warehouse.
The port workers started stopping their work. They crowded around, whispering, watching the drama. Didier couldn't hold back his rage anymore. He snapped at Gisella so loudly the echo filled the whole warehouse.
"What are you doing with this man?!"
