Chapter 63 Ilses Panic

These damn papers. Seriously, goddamn it.?

I paced back and forth in Gisella's room like a caged animal.

The papers in my hands? It contained proof of the Mercer and Varannes corruption, that's Real Ilse and Gisella did.

This isn't just paperwork, it's a fucking death warrant for me and Gisella.

If Claus or the King gets their hands on this, I'm not waiting for a trial.

I'll be publicly beheaded, just like in the original novel.

Arghhhhh... I sat down, then jumped back up.

Sat down again, stood up again. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Why the fuck did I have to end up in Isle de Varannes' body?

Her fate is so goddamn tragic. I should've just been some random background character, a vegetable vendor maybe, a fishmonger, a bar dancer?

??, I don't care....as long as I wasn't getting executed.

In the next room, I could hear Gisella. She was screaming at her parents. Loud and clear.

"Father, Mother, listen to me," Gisella's voice was shaking but firm. "I'm tired of being treated like trash. If marrying Didier just turns me into a doormat, I'd rather not get married at all!"

"Gisella! You have no idea what you're talking about!" her father roared. Then, the sound of a vase smashing against the floor. They were losing it.

I bit my lip so hard I could taste copper. Gisella was fighting not to be Didier's slave, while I was fighting not to be a corpse. The situation was spiraling out of control. We were both on the chopping block.

I stared at the pile of documents again. My emotions were boiling over. I felt so suffocated, terrified, and furious at myself for being too incompetent to hide this shit.

"What the hell am I supposed to do, God..." I whispered, completely frustrated.

My hands were shaking so bad from the adrenaline. I slammed the stack of papers down, but I was so worked up, I threw it way too hard. Straight into the roaring fireplace.

Whoosh!

The flames devoured the papers instantly. My eyes went wide. Oh, fuck.

I scrambled, grabbing at the burning papers, but that just made the flames roar louder. I panicked, slapping the papers onto the floor, but the burning mess hit Gisella's thin silk curtains.

In a split second, the fire raced up the fabric. The room that had been peaceful just a moment ago was now turning into a living hell.

"Oh shit! It's burning!" I screamed in a panic. I was totally screwed. If anyone found out about this, I was finished. Absolutely finished.
