Chapter 66 Full of Questions

One week. Time crawled like a dying snail.?

Julian crushed the newspaper in his hands until the paper was a crumpled, shapeless mess. The news was absolute trash. Palace gossip blown way out of proportion, written by hack writers with nothing better to do. The headline read: 'Scandal Behind the Mercer Estate.'

It was sickening. The King was furious. Gisella had been reprimanded directly just for being caught alone with him. Ridiculous. Is it really a crime for a noblewoman like Gisella to meet him? This kingdom is starving for drama.

In another column, there was news about Didier getting chewed out by the King, too. Because of Lysandra. He'd known Lysandra since they were kids, hell, he'd even admired her once. Why the hell did they all end up in this trashy circle of drama?

Julian's room was silent. Only the sound of the wall clock ticking. Tick. Tock. Tick.

He was the Commander of the Holy Order. A man who was supposed to have a clear head and a spine of steel. But now? He felt like a stranger to himself.

Something was wrong. His memory felt like a puzzle with missing pieces.

He remembered Gisella, he remembered the turmoil in his heart, but there was this nagging feeling in his chest.

Like someone had placed a dark filter over his mind.

Like parts of his life had been intentionally deleted, or maybe... covered up.

He stared at the sword on his table. Cold. Sharp. Just like the suspicion that suddenly spiked in his brain.

What actually happened a week ago?

The question wouldn't go away. Stuck to him like a leech. He felt bad for Gisella, who was being pressured by the crown. And the more he tried to think, the more his head throbbed. Pounding.

Julian threw the paper to the floor. To hell with it.

He stood up and stared out the window. The sky was overcast. Just like his own feelings. Full of questions, with not a single answer that made sense. He felt like a fool walking on thin ice. Just waiting for the moment to fall, without knowing where he'd land.
