Beloved High School Soccer Coach Sentenced to Life in Prison
The “trial of the year,” as declared by social media, has come to a shocking and abrupt end this afternoon.
Following a bombshell confession midway through his trial for the murders of students Jose Perez and Danny Bauer, former Millcreek High soccer coach David Soto has been sentenced to life in prison.
The trial took the country by storm after popular true crime content creator Crime and Dine with Hailey Winters posted a video covering the case.
At the time of this publication, Winters’s video has garnered over five million views.
Livestreams of the court proceedings amassed audiences of over a hundred thousand viewers per day, the comments flooded with debates over whether Soto was guilty.
But with his Friday-night confession, Soto put an end to any and all speculation, much to the shock of not just viewers following along, but the victims’ families as well.
“If there’s one good thing to come out of all of this, it’s that that monster is where he belongs,” Jose Perez’s mother, Sonia Perez, said exclusively to the Millcreek Sun following the sentencing.
Her son, a Millcreek High senior, had been coached by Soto since he first joined the team his freshman year.
“I hope that man never sees the light of day again. It’s the least my son deserves. ”
Soto’s family had been outspoken about his presumed innocence but were singing a different tune at the sentencing Tuesday morning.
“We pray for his soul every night,” Soto’s wife, stay-at-home mother Emilia Diaz Soto, said in a statement on behalf of the family.
“All we can ask for is peace and privacy as we try to move forward.”
David Soto will be eligible for parole in 2058, when he’s 72 years old.
