Chapter Nineteen
After their agreement had been settled, Davian and Lycus remained silent. It reminded Verena of when the twins would get scolded when they were younger and would sulk. It was especially amusing to Verena that he cold brother was sulking in his seat.
Verena almost smiled when their food was brought to their table. Verena just got mac and cheese with mashed potatoes. It did smell pretty good, and she actually felt hungry enough to eat it. She picked up her spoon but froze when she saw the lobster placed in front of Lycus.
She stared at it for a few seconds before pulling at Praxis's sleeve to get his attention. He immediately looked towards her curious face. "What is it, love?"
"Is it true that they boil the lobsters alive, and they scream?" She asked casually.
Lycus choked on his pina colada while Leondias stilled in surprise. Davian just looked at her while Praxis looked too startled to say anything. He was shocked that she just spoke to him freely like that. She surprised everyone.
She didn't even know why she actually asked that. She was just so shocked to see another lobster after Riven had tormented her with the head of one. She didn't really think, and the question just spilled out of her.
"What the fuck?" Lycus coughed.
"Where did you hear that from?" Praxis asked, bewildered.
"Riven." She whispered.
"That little shit," Davian muttered angrily.
"N-no, of course not! He was just being a prick to scare you." Praxis spluttered out. They actually did boil them alive, but he wasn't going to tell her that.
"He also chased me with its head and left it in my room," Verena told him while picking at her mashed potatoes. Why was she still talking?
"Are you serious?" Davian growled in anger, making Verena shrink in her seat. Praxis closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose.
Lycus looked at his plate and then Verena before turning the plate around so the head no longer faced her.
"Your brother sounds lovely," Leondias muttered sarcastically.
"Oh, he's just so perfect." Davian sarcastically replied before waving down the waiter for another drink.
After the awkward lunch was over, all four brothers walked outside with Verena heading to their cars.
Lycus wanted to hug her, but knew she wouldn't want that. He tried putting out his hand for her to shake instead. She looked at his hand and then at him before slowly shaking his hand. Lycus couldn't hold in the big smile that spread across his face. Praxis and Davian were more than shocked.
"Good job," Praxis told her proudly. Verena looked at him, perplexed. She didn't know why he was praising her.
Leondias just told her goodbye. He noticed how difficult the handshake was for her, so he refrained from any physical touch.
As they drove back home, Verena fiddled with the end of her sleeves. Davian and Praxis remained quiet up front.
"Are you going to say anything to Riven?" Praxis asked Davian, breaking the silence.
Davian kept his eyes on the road as a small smile crept on his face. There was no trace of amusement, which made Verena squirm in her seat.
"I feel that Cyprian would be interested to hear." Davian shrugged.
Praxis frowned. "Davian..."
"What? It's about time he gets a taste of his own medicine. Cyprian knows better than to physically harm him."
Verena squirmed in her seat uncomfortably. She didn't want Riven to face repercussions because she feared it would be worse for her.
Look at you getting him in trouble. He's going to kill you for opening your mouth. The shadow figure said beside her, lounging in the seat.
Verena tensed up and closed her eyes. Praxis noticed her distress. "Hey, you okay?" he asked, concerned.
All Verena did was nod.
