Bonus Scene
WILLOW
“Well, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson, are you ready to see your baby?” the ultrasound technician asks.
We ended up going to the courthouse to get married the same week Noah proposed.
I didn’t want or need a big wedding. I just wanted to be married to him.
It took a couple of weeks to get in to see the doctor, but judging from my last period, I’m less than two months along.
Noah laughed and said it was from the nonstop sex the night I killed Vallero after he got me fully checked out by Jeremy’s connection’s on call doctor, but we won’t be telling anyone that conception story… Well, maybe Jenna once she gets back.
Noah has been by my side as much as possible not wanting to break some form of contact.
He lies on my hip at night and talks to our baby, even though I told him, according to the book he bought, the baby doesn’t start to hear until like eighteen weeks along.
And even then, it’s just vibrations and my heartbeat.
But he insists on talking to her every night.
Oh yeah, he’s also convinced it’s a girl.
“So, how have things been going so far?” the tech asks as she puts the internal ultrasound wand inside me.
The monitor is tilted away from us, but I can hear her typing and can see Noah staring at her then nervously looking back at me. His fingers are tense, white-knuckling the table I’m sitting on, while his other hand that’s wrapped around mine is loose.
“She’s been sick. A lot. She’s able to keep a couple of things down, but a lot of stuff makes her nauseous. She’s taking her prenatal every morning and makes sure to drink at least eighty to one hundred ounces of water a day to stay hydrated with how much she’s been throwing up,” Noah answers.
“A lot of moms get morning sickness. It’s nothing to be nervous about.”
Noah just glares at her before looking back at me and smiling.
“It’s not just in the morning though. It’s more mid-day to evening,” he says firmly.
“Morning sickness is just the term. You can get sick at any time of the day. Have you been working more than usual? Doing anything strenuous?” she asks as she types a few more things on the keyboard before looking over at me and smiling.
“No. Nothing strenuous,” I answer.
“No, and she hasn’t been working in the office. I tried to get her to just go on leave, but she still wants to work on stuff from home,” Noah grumbles.
“I’ll get bored,” I snap, and the technician just chuckles.
She adjusts the weird ultrasound wand. I didn’t even know this was a thing.
All they ever show on TV is the one where they put all the gel on your stomach and rub it around.
This whole thing has made me realize I don’t know shit about babies.
Thankfully, Noah has been researching enough for both of us.
After a few more moments, she finally speaks.
“Were you taking any fertility supplements?” she asks, tilting her head at the monitor then moves the wand inside me a little more.
“No.”
“Are there any instances of twins on either side of the family?”
“My father is an identical twin,” Noah says.
It registers what she says, and my eyes go wide. When I look at her, she has a big smile on her face and clicks another button. The screen in front of us lights up, and two dark circles with a little white jelly bean-looking thing in the center of each are marked A and B.
“Well, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson, You’re having twins.”
“Tw…Twins?” I stammer.
*Thunk*
I look back to find Noah on the ground next to me.
“Noah?!” I shout, but the technician removes the wand from inside me, then comes around the side to help him to his feet.
“There you are, sir. Here. Take a seat.”
He rubs his head and looks up at me then at the screen.
“Did you just say twins? We’re having twins?” he asks while staring at the screen.
“Yes, sir.”
“Two babies?”
“That is what twins mean, yes,” the technician laughs.
“Hell fucking yes!” Noah shouts, jumping out of his chair.
“Sir. Language, please.”
“Shit, sorry, I’m just…Oh my God. Willow, twins!”
I don’t think I’ve ever seen him so excited. Even more excited than the night we found out we were pregnant. My heart is racing, beating against my chest as I let the words fully sink in.
“We’re having twins,” I say slowly.
“Yes. Would you like to hear the heartbeats?” she asks, and we nod.
She clicks another button, and the sounds of two racing heartbeats fill the room.
When I look at Noah, he’s grinning ear to ear staring at the screen where the image of our two babies is frozen.
In the glow from the screen, I can see a tear trailing down his cheek and I reach for his hand wrapping it in mine.
“Can you believe it, Little Rabbit. We’re going to have two babies.”
“Two babies.”
“Dallas and Lily. No, Dallas and Ariel. Oh my God. What if it’s Lily and Ariel?”
“What if it’s two boys?”
“Dallas and Forester?”
“Forester?”
“Our cabin,” he says quickly.
“Dallas and Forester. I love it.”
He leans, kissing me deeply as we continue to listen to our babies' heartbeats. He breaks the kiss leaning his forehead against mine.
“I love you, Noah.”
“I love you, too, Little Rabbit.”
