chapter 1

It's been three hours since Kevin sent the last message, and the dishes I carefully prepared have lost their color.

I held the phone, the call log filled with his number.

Suddenly, a news alert popped up: [Supermodel Haley McCoy spotted at a fashion show with a mysterious man, showing intimate interaction].

The photo was blurry, but just one glance left me completely disheartened.

The Patek Philippe on Haley's wrist was the one I had specially customized for Kevin.

When he said he was busy, was it to watch the show with her?

I smiled and downed the rest of the red wine in my glass.

It was late at night when Kevin finally came back. He glanced at the dishes on the table and my outfit, without a trace of guilt in his eyes.

He walked toward me, carrying the scent of Chanel No. 5, Haley's favorite fragrance.

"You're still awake, good, saves me the trouble of waking you up." He coldly pulled out a document and slapped it on the table. "Sign this."

Seeing it was a divorce agreement, my heart sank sharply. "Is it because of Haley?"

He paused, his tone still cold. "Good that you understand, saves me from having to explain."

I looked up at him, seeing his dismissive attitude. My eyes reddened as pain and resentment tore at me.

I said, "Kevin, our five years of marriage can't compare to just one word from her?"

This time, he finally looked me in the eye. But those once gentle eyes now held only disgust. "Alexa, what do you think you are? How dare you compare yourself to Haley?"

"You know exactly why you married me. Stop pretending to be sentimental here!"

For five years, I tried my best to fulfill my role as a wife, but in his eyes, it was just a facade?

Five whole years, even raising a dog would build affection, yet all he feels for me is disgust?

At this moment, I felt like I had fallen into an ice cave, my blood seemingly frozen.

"I won't sign," I said.

My answer instantly angered him.

He slammed me onto the table, his voice cold and vicious. "Alexa, you've enjoyed five years as Mrs. Foster. You should be satisfied. Don't push your luck!"

"If you don't sign, the Stevens family will disappear from New York tomorrow!"

My gaze fixed on the wedding photo on the wall; his gentle image in it only highlighted his current ferocity, shattering the last shred of hope in my heart.

"I'll sign," I said, closing my eyes, my voice hoarse.

After I signed, his expression immediately softened. "Since you're being so obedient, you can stay here a few more days."

After speaking, he grabbed the agreement and hurriedly turned to leave.

I smashed the wine bottle against the wedding photo, watching the crimson liquid stain Kevin in the picture. I sent a message to a number. [Derek, inform the media, press conference tomorrow!]

Early the next morning, dressed to the nines, I arrived at the venue Derek had arranged.

Only about a dozen media outlets showed up at the scene. I got straight to the point, "Media friends, please start your live streams and boost the traffic now. Today's content will definitely not disappoint you!"
