Chapter 4 Throne of the Goblin King
The air grew heavier as I descended deeper into the cave. Moisture clung to the stone walls, and glowing fungi painted the rocky corridor with a faint, eerie blue light. The silence was unnatural-too still, too expectant.
My Advanced Search pulsed to life, and text scrolled across the edge of my vision:
Enemies Detected:
Goblin (×17)
Goblin Warrior (×6)
Goblin Mage (×2)
Goblin King (×1)
I slowed my steps and crouched behind a jagged boulder. Just ahead, the tunnel opened into a massive chamber carved from raw earth. A pit of light and shadow.
It was a goblin stronghold.
Torches flickered along the rough stone walls, their flames casting chaotic shadows over the cavern. Glowing crystals protruded from the ground in places, creating pools of pale light. Dozens of goblins moved about-organizing crates, gnawing bones, sharpening weapons stolen from unlucky travelers.
And at the far end of the chamber, seated atop a warped throne made from rusted blades, cracked bones, and twisted iron, was it:
Goblin King
[Rank: A]
HP: ??? / ???
It sat slouched like a grotesque monarch, its massive frame draped in patchwork armor stitched together from the remnants of fallen adventurers.
Black claws tapped lazily against the throne's armrest. Its crown-a jagged ring of fused bone and iron-seemed melded into its skull.
One of its eyes gleamed crimson in the torchlight, scanning its domain with predatory malice.
Its presence filled the room like a pressure wave.
My heart pounded, but not from fear.
From excitement.
"This is it," I whispered, eyes narrowed. "A real boss fight."
---
I raised a hand and focused, whispering my incantation:
"Flame Spear."
A fiery bolt coalesced in my palm, searing hot and pulsing with power. I aimed and launched it straight into the chest of an unsuspecting goblin mage standing near a mana crystal.
BOOM!
The explosion lit up the chamber. Fire roared. Screams erupted.
Panic.
Goblins scrambled in all directions-some blindly grabbing weapons, others running straight into each other. I moved before they had time to regroup.
Leaping down from my hiding spot, I surged into the chaos.
With Advanced Search active, red-highlighted silhouettes glowed in my vision. Enemy names, attack paths, status effects-all laid out like a real-time HUD.
"Let's test this for real," I muttered, grinning.
A goblin warrior lunged with a spiked club. I ducked the swing and countered with a sweeping kick that sent it tumbling. Another swung an axe; I sidestepped and slashed its arm with surgical precision.
"Wind Cutter!"
Blades of compressed air spun from my palm, slicing clean through a goblin's neck.
"Icicle Barrage!"
Frozen spikes rained from above, impaling two more and pinning them to the cavern wall. Their shrieks ended instantly.
They didn't stand a chance.
I darted through the fray, dancing between enemies with unnatural speed and grace. My senses were dialed to ten. Every movement, every breath, every swing of a blade-I saw it all coming before it even happened.
This body, reshaped by the Goddess's blessing, was a miracle.
I can't believe this is real, I thought, flipping over a goblin warrior's head mid-air. As I descended, I conjured a burst of fire and blasted it point-blank with Flame Shot.
The battlefield reeked of ash and blood.
Goblins fell one after another.
Until only one remained.
---
The Goblin King rose.
A guttural growl rumbled from its throat like thunder in a cave. Its massive frame shook with rage. Crimson eyes locked onto me, and for the first time that day-I felt real danger.
"RRRAAAGGHH!!!"
It roared, and the very stones beneath its throne cracked from the force.
In one swift motion, it raised a crude but massive club-twice the length of my arm-and slammed it down.
CRACK!
The stone floor shattered, sending a shockwave through the chamber.
"Here it comes..." I muttered, adrenaline surging.
The King charged.
Fast. Too fast.
Even with Advanced Search tracking its movements, it was hard to keep up. I dodged left-but not fast enough.
WHAM!
The club clipped my ribs, and pain exploded through my side.
"Gaaah!"
The impact launched me across the room. I slammed into the cavern wall, the breath knocked from my lungs. Dust rained from the ceiling. My vision swam.
Pain flared-sharp, white-hot. My side burned with every breath. Maybe cracked ribs. My shirt was torn, blood trickling down my skin.
I forced myself to stand, teeth gritted.
"That thing hits like a truck..."
The Goblin King roared again, launching a black orb of mana from its clawed hand.
"Light Barrier!" I cast, and a glowing dome formed just in time to absorb the impact.
The barrier shattered instantly-but it had done its job. I staggered but stayed on my feet.
My breath was ragged, my body aching.
Okay. Brute force won't cut it.
---
"Time to turn up the magic," I hissed.
"Blazing Lance!"
A massive spear of fire materialized in front of me and surged forward, slamming into the King's shoulder with a fiery burst. The beast roared, staggering from the impact.
I didn't let up.
"Wind Boost!"
My body surged with speed as air magic wrapped around my limbs. I blurred behind the King, drawing its attention away from the front.
"Icicle Barrage!"
Ice rained from above, shattering against its armor and freezing one leg partially in place.
"Too slow!" I shouted, rolling under a retaliatory swing and striking its hamstring.
Another black orb shot toward me.
"Light Blast!"
My holy magic collided with the orb, detonating in a blinding flash.
Smoke and dust clouded the room.
Through it, I saw my chance.
"Light Edge: Overcast."
My sword shimmered with divine light, glowing with radiant energy that pulsed like a heartbeat.
I dashed forward, every step a blur. The King tried to swing one final time-one desperate, wild strike.
I ducked beneath it.
And then-
"HAAAAH!!"
I drove the glowing blade into its chest with all my strength.
The light surged. The Goblin King let out a roar that echoed through the mountains-then froze.
Cracks of light spread from the blade, coursing through its body like divine fire.
And finally, with a deafening thud, the monster collapsed to its knees... and died.
---
I dropped to one knee, clutching my side. Blood dripped from a fresh cut on my cheek, and my ribs throbbed with every breath.
"Damn... that monster hits hard..."
I coughed, spat, and wiped blood from my mouth. My vision steadied.
I looked at the fallen beast. Its crown had fallen to the ground, cracked slightly at the base. The once-imposing tyrant of the goblins now lay still, dwarfed by silence.
I let out a breath-half relief, half disbelief.
"Boss monster... defeated."
Behind the throne, I spotted them-piles of treasure, chests half-buried in rubble, crates spilling with coins, crystals, and scavenged gear. A hoard built over years of ambushing travelers and raiding trade routes.
I limped toward the prize, dragging my sword behind me, its tip scratching stone.
"Let's see what you've been hoarding, Your Majesty..."
---
The cave's rear chamber was a chaotic mess of broken crates, shredded satchels, and scorched scrolls. But among the debris was treasure-real, glittering treasure.
Gold coins. Polished gems. Rare herbs in sealed pouches. Several steel weapons and enchanted items buried beneath it all.
I knelt beside a cracked chest and sifted through its contents.
Item Found: Healing Potion [Minor]
Thank the Goddess.
I uncorked the glass bottle and downed it in one gulp. A warm sensation pulsed through me, washing over my injuries like sunlight through a cold fog.
The burning in my ribs dulled. The blood stopped flowing. The pain eased.
"Ahhh... much better."
I stood and stretched, wincing slightly but smiling.
"Note to self-always loot the boss."
I turned my attention to something glinting beneath the Goblin King's fallen body. I approached and pulled the crown from the corpse's head.
Blackened iron. Bone spikes. Twisted and cruel in design-but heavy. Regal, in a monstrous way.
[Item Acquired: Goblin King's Crown - Trophy Item]
A grin tugged at my lips.
"First dungeon. First boss. First crown."
I reached into my soul and summoned my status screen.
Among the Goddess's original blessings, something new had appeared:
Inventory [Divine Gift] - A dimensional storage space for non-living items. No weight limit.
"Perfect."
I summoned the portal-a shimmering circle of light hovering at waist level-and began transferring loot inside. Gold coins, enchanted rings, cloaks, daggers, raw materials, magical scrolls... everything.
The cavern slowly emptied of treasure as the last remnants of the goblin horde vanished into my personal vault.
---
After nearly fifteen minutes of looting, I stepped back and dusted off my gloves.
"That's everything."
I gave one final glance at the chamber-the shattered throne, the dead king, the cold, still air.
Then I turned toward the exit.
Outside, the sky was painted in hues of orange and lavender. The forest whispered in the wind, birds chirping softly in the fading light.
I stepped out of the cave, the cool breeze brushing against my sweat-dampened skin.
And for a long moment... I just stood there.
Soaking it in.
My first real battle. My first wounds. My first boss kill.
And my first taste of power.
A long road stretched ahead-filled with monsters, magic, secrets, and challenges beyond anything I'd ever known.
But for now...
I smiled, gripping my sword tighter.
This world is mine to explore.
